If you stay back like Tanaka tells you, he’ll start talking to the officers in Japanese, and they’ll leave you alone. Of course, you’ll end up killing them anyways later. But I always listened to Tanaka. He’s a real pal.
To be fair, he was very persuasive. Those soldiers wanted to live but with the help of .45 ACP he changed their mind.
Mostly into a red stain on the pavement, but still.

fun Singaporean trivia:
while the layout is fictional, judging by the location in game, your mission starts off at Beach Road and you make your way towards Arab Street (as evidenced from the Sultan Mosque at 15:29). you eventually stop at what appears to be Raffles Hotel (which has a similar structure design and layout to the actual building) for the Axis Summit.
That's right, people: Yuri Lowenthal AND the legendary Mako themselves were both in this video game!
In fact, this was quite possibly the first video game voice acting debut for BOTH of them.
Aka, the most recognizable voice in Video Games aside from Kath Soucie And the Voice Actor of Aku from Samurai Jack.

This was always my favorite mission in the game by far, but I’ve only recently realized something that makes it even more interesting. I never actually understood what Shima was planning when I was younger. The most I could gather was that he was obviously motivated by greed and gold, but then I realized that what he’s actually proposing is the overthrow of both Hitler and Stalin’s regimes.
Kandler and Borov, then, are traitors to their dictatorial regimes back home who have risked everything for this plan to succeed. I know we wanted to gather intel on the summit but...did we really have to stop them? The war could’ve been all but over on the western front by 1943 without Hitler and Stalin in charge. I kind of get the feeling Shima was planning a coup in Japan too, he would’ve had to know that once Germany was defeated, Japan would be next, so he would need to quickly consolidate power and negotiate a settlement with the allies.
Of course we’ll never know now. But still...it‘a a really intriguing alternative history possibility
Wow that makes the Rising Sun lore even more interesting than it already is
Yeah, Rising Sun deserves recognition for having a story more nuanced and interesting than "stop Nazis from building Wunderwaffen X", which you don't see in a lot of WWII games
The only way this scheme could have possibly helped the Japanese is if the new German regime continued to fight the Western allies. Otherwise, all Shima has accomplished is freeing up 80 percent of Americas war effort for use in the Pacific.
@@thanhdanhvu5886Definitley is underrated. The whole game felt like a pre-James Bond conspiracy between much more evil counterparts. Who knows Op Valkyrie in this game universe was influenced by Shima’s coup?
@@Gillan1220Funnily enough as this game was developed, so was GoldenEye Rogue Agent, who unfortunately also met a mixed reception no thanks to its rushed development cycle
This was the first Medal of Honor game I ever owned. Got it for Christmas in 2004. This level was very fun for me

The soundtrack on rising sun was so epic
The pistol's butt is more effective than the actual bullets
It’s a one shot kill 95% of the time, even if you shoot them in the midsection. Very good for getting the drop on enemies, which is what it’s designed for. When I got compromised, I would always switch to the Colt.
Interestingly the Welrod is supposed to be a bolt action pistol that uses a detachable magazine, it's not supposed to be a single shot weapon like it is in the game

So many hated this Medal of Honor. I actually think it’s awesome. The amount of time I put into this and Frontline since I was a teen is crazy haha. I love my newer games and consoles, but I’m always going back to the MOH games from Ps1-ps2 days. They need to remaster these games!!

It definitely isn't as good as previous titles ,not a bad game though.
It honestly would've been great if EA didn't decide to make the AI dumber than a bag of hammers and make the maps incredibly linear. It's insane how ridiculous the NPCs can be, moreso when they take cover behind...nothing.

I liked how the nco's and officers sometimes draw their katanas and charge at you. Like running kamikazes.
The Katana wielding officer always manages to slash you before you can melee them. What is fun to do though, is to bait them into a slash, step back, then move forward again and whack them.

I have no clue why they made the Welrod a single-shot. Historically it had a magazine in the handle, you just had to cycle the bolt after each shot like a bolt-action rifle and it'd load the next round. I think it had like a 10-round capacity. EDIT: So, when I was a kid I never understood what the hell they were talking about at the summit, but I almost wish they didn't have the real German guy come and ruin your cover so you could work as an agent on the inside, helping the Japanese take out Stalin and Hitler - only to then cross the Japanese and expose them.
8 round. They probably made it Single shot for balancing reasons, also the Welrod was known to have feeding issues since the magazine also functioned as the grip, and was not well supported.
This game needs to come back either on the Nintendo switch,Forget PS5 and Xbox series X. All the Medal of Honor games need a return miss playing these games

Used to play this game so much. And when I got bored of the campaign, the multiplayer had a way to play against the AI, so I did that a lot too. I do that with CoD all the time now. I actually still have this for Xbox as well

I find Rising Sun unique because it's set in a part of World War II that's not normally explored that being the Pacific theatre, Rising Sun was actually one of the most underrated games in the series

I'm not certain but I believe the game changes slightly if you play CO-OP I remember certain situations being set up differently. Idk if it's true or not.

I guess it was probably done for balance reasons but IRL the Welrod was a repeating pistol, and had a 8 round magazine. Then again it was also known to be very finicky with feeding each round so single-loading may be the better option

It's because of this mission that even close to 20 years later when ever I eat noodles I always say to myself when I'm done, "The noodles are wet and spicy!"
Was it just me who would occasionally get the staircase glitch after the car crash/uniform heist cut scene? Other than that this particular mission, and game as a whole really, was the reason for my love for war games.
