Been using this since last 6 months as my office laptop. I have been a ThinkPad user (L412, T450, E460) since last 6 years, and this doesn't stand anywhere near them. The track point isn't nearly as good as a ThinkPad nor are the keyboard and trackpad, it gets crazy hot that makes it nearly impossible to keep it on your lap while working. Even doing light programming and browing makes it go all volcanic, during the quarantine I have had many episodes of random shutdowns with this machine I checked for temperature and it didn't seem hot. It's better than HP Elitebook though (but not as pretty with shiny aluminium and that sharp logo) but nothing like my T450.

I own one with the 1080p IPS touch-screen, i5 8350U and replaced the SSD with a 970 Pro 512GB. upgraded from a Lattitude e7470. Works great. The fingerprint sensor is very mediocre and far from impressive and the long POST time even on minimal setting makes the boot last way longer than it should (approx. 20 seconds to desktop), but those are the only issues I have with it. 4core/8thread cPU and 2 SoDIMM slots make it a great potential mobile VM box. The LTE module works just fine too. Keyboard is awesome, touchscreen works great and cleans easy. It's a great productivity and IT (self)education machine. Basically, this is going to be my main work/education device for the next 3 years at least.
I am buying a used laptop of this model at half price. battery life and performance is pretty good.. it's been used by a company for around 3 yrs.. is it worth buying?
We get the i5/256 version for $650. But we did buy 35,000 of them lol Cracking laptop. I work in IT, and I actually prefer the 7480. It seems to interface more readily with the TB16 dock. The 7490 will, but seems to be fussy about the drivers in the dock being upto date. Both highly recommended anyway.
When choosing the display only 1 option has the Super low power display (SLP). I also prefer the TB3 options but have a hard time getting the configurations to work for me to be sure TB3 options like palmrest are lined up right.
I have a 7490 too and it has a terrible issue with fan. At higher load fan tends to pulse secondwise, spins up fast within a second and slows down immediately. Sounds like a steam locomotive puff puff passing by. I have browsed articles, howtos etc. nothing has helped so far. Do you have a good idea what's wrong? The fan does not seem to be broken. I can reset BIOS to factory setting (not initial factory BIOS version) and issue is gone for a while, but then strikes back. Have never had similar issue with any notebook I have owned so far.
from what I've heard, they haven't fixed the throttling issue yet. The CPU would downclock to below base speed whenever the gtx1050 was active because it would be throttling it down. It was some issue with the BIOS settings and Intel thermal framework. Otherwise it was nice, but not being able to use the gtx1050 was a dealbreaker, so I returned it. (despite all this throttling it still had mediocre battery life). Better to pick the 720 as it has a bigger battery, PSU, and doesn't have the issue. Their Ideapad 720s 15 (with the 1050 ti) is a much better buy if you don't need the tablet function.
07:42 Oh dear. I had a 2016 XPS model and I absolutely hated the trackpad! So bad that I had to sent it back. No problems whatsoever on the Elitebooks and X1 Carbons. X1 Carbon remains king if you ask me (although it's quite pricey).
I bought one of these on the outlet for under $1000. SLP screen, IR, i5, TB, and 512GB NVME. I bumped it to 32GB of RAM. While I was very happy with it initially, the fingerprint reader was TERRIBLE. So bad that I had to return it. Now we're getting them at work, and they're still terrible compared to the Goodix readers in the XPS, Inspiron 15, and my MateBook X Pro.
Thx for the fantastic review. If I order a 7490 with a SATA drive will I be able to replace the drive with a NVMe drive in the future or am I stuck with SATA?

hello thanks for the video, i have a question, there's a version of the dell 7490 i7 with 16gb ram buy without fingerprint scanner, do you think it's worth, i mean the difference in price is just for the fingerprint or is there something else missing???
A friend of mine bought one some months ago. Bomb-proof laptop, excellent size IMHO. Get one if you're thinking about it, but check the component list if you need to handle a specific use-case (drivers for their Broadcom-based fingerprint devices are unavailable for Linux systems, for example). Phone Dell or check Reddit for USB-C TB3 support for eGPUs if you need them! I've been using the e5570 ( i76820HQ, 2x8GB DDR4, 256GB SATA3 M.2, R7 M370) for more than a year and a half now and I felt really pushed to get a newer, smaller screen model when I saw the 14" (e54XX), but honestly I don't need to. Mine is still a wonderful, powerful machine.
I'm actually making a purchase, Lenovo betrayed me with their decisions on the Thikpad T series. This model is appealing to me since I work as a database administrator and I type a lot of Java code at work and HTML, CSS on weekends as a hobby.
@@carldrogo9492 They made battery not replaceable, hard to open case, and many other little annoying things. I'm on a gaming laptop that runs out of juice like in 2 hours and lights up like a christmas tree.🥲
I own both the e7470 and 7480 with i7 cups and my 7480 has 24 gb of ram and m.2 ssd storage. for what these things are, they do it well. Equally as fast as my doctable e6540, yet more then a half smaller all around. The flipside to all of it is this comes at a cost. Both in performance as they use a U series cpu, and no dedicated graphics, finally costly. Especially if you step up from the base config. But if your needing a very stable, capable laptop they don't come with this much bells and whistles this thin and light. If your on the go like I am, it's worth every penny.

Looking for a convertible latpop, any suggestions? Want to beat the Christmas rush and rise in prices but prefer performance over everything regardless of cost. The Rolls Royce of Convertibles w/ great speakers, great graphics?
If cost is not a factor then Surface pro 6 i7, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd is your best bet. There is no hinges so 1 part less prone to to failure. Buy it with Microsoft Complete. If egpu is important and you can afford it, surface book 2 with gtx 1060 have great graphics with a great screen.
Yeah but business laptops tend to be more expensive than consumer laptops. The GREAT thing is in a few years when companies start dumping hundreds and thousands of these into the used market ;)

I read some forum, they replaced the fan and it's better with fan noise. But I can't be 100% sure
Replace the thermal paste on the cpu + clean inside and fans
Thank you for your review ! I like business laptops
Any update on a ThinkPad L380 review? curious on how display and battery life is :)
Lisa! Are you going to review the Yoga 730? (the one with GTX 1050) . That would be great!
from what I've heard, they haven't fixed the throttling issue yet.
Chocolate Giddyup +1 i agree as i have the yoga 720 with 1050 no issues whatsoever and its the best! 👍
07:42 Oh dear. I had a 2016 XPS model and I absolutely hated the trackpad! So bad that I had to sent it back. No problems whatsoever on the Elitebooks and X1 Carbons. X1 Carbon remains king if you ask me (although it's quite pricey).
Only 720p for $1049.? ROTFLMAO! That's ridiculous.
Welcome to business laptop pricing.
Please review the matebook d 2500u it is only 630 dollars with excellent build quality and is sold in the US through Walmart
Good to know as I was looking for a laptop with finger reading. Thanks.
Great review, thank you. I am trying to decide between this and the new Dell 5401. Any advice would be great.
thanks for the nice video review 👍👍
Thx for the fantastic review. If I order a 7490 with a SATA drive will I be able to replace the drive with a NVMe drive in the future or am I stuck with SATA?
Adequate enough for adobe products like illustrator, photoshop, or their movie editors?
Did you find out about this please?
Should work if you put in 16 gb at least but it's gonna be slow with current versions - especially movie editors.
This is not a workstation laptop
Please do a smack down between hp omen 15 with 1070 and msi GS 65 with 1070 .
Why is this dell latitude 7490 without a fingerprint scanner? The ones I saw online has a fingerprint scanner at right corner
Thank you for this THOROUGH review!
I have a problem with mine, whenever im handling it, i have to be very gentle because if i hit the bottom right part of the laptop, below the keyboard, it shuts off and has to reboot.
i want a Surface Pro -like device. whats the best option at the moment?
Hi Lisa, Love your reviews. unrelated question: What is the cordless mic that you use?
madre mía, el mejor tutorial que he visto en mi vida, al punto, excelente

I love your videos, keep it up
Thanks!
hello thanks for the video, i have a question, there's a version of the dell 7490 i7 with 16gb ram buy without fingerprint scanner, do you think it's worth, i mean the difference in price is just for the fingerprint or is there something else missing???
We use this laptop in our company...your review is pinpoint
Hi Lisa, how do you compare the mat display on 7490 versus the mat X1 carbon? which one is the winner in reducing glare, and in color gamut? Thanks
Your t-shrit !!! Is amazing !!!!
I like the way this woman reviews. Rapid fire facts.
Please review the new Dell Vostro 5490 with 10th Gen i7 CPU and discrete graphics.
How about the Dell Latitude 5000 series? 5490 or maybe 5491
How did Lenovo betray you?
@@carldrogo9492 They made battery not replaceable, hard to open case, and many other little annoying things.
I'm on a gaming laptop that runs out of juice like in 2 hours and lights up like a christmas tree.🥲
How’s the keyboard on this one? Im considering buying it but i saw reviews that the keyboard is not that good and hard to replace
How is the sound and bass quality on both? Do they seem to have more bass than your phones? Thanks. 😊🌎✨
@@OJesusX3 I would say definitely. I have a decent smartphone but it isn't the best sounding.
@@PearComputingDevices Thanks very much for this my friend. 😊
Update: I just got a Latitude 7490, (I have an older 3350 latitude as well,) and after putting FXSound (free) on it and switching it on, I am pleased as a cat in a bird house, lol, because those speakers now sound *awesome*. 😊
One would think that an equalizer couldn't do that much, but my god man, it has completely flipped how I feel about this computer when it comes to playing music. "Definitely" is about right. Rock on man! 😄🌎✌️
Hi Lisa, what are your thoughts on the budget laptops like the Lenovo Ideapad 330s? They have lots of variations in both 14 and 15 inch sizes in Intel and AMD configs
dont get AMD unless its ryzen, anything before isnt worth buying
Looking for a convertible latpop, any suggestions? Want to beat the Christmas rush and rise in prices but prefer performance over everything regardless of cost. The Rolls Royce of Convertibles w/ great speakers, great graphics?
Andrew Rojas look at the Lenovo 2 in 1 options, they make some of the best laptops right now.
@@TuanLe-eb5yp Is there no 144hz touchscreens? What's a great option for convertibles with higher fps?
Comments by Sidhesh Patil - I'd be interested to know your thoughts on the Dell Inspiron 15 5575 (Ryzen / Radeon). Thanks
can I connect 4k display? It has 4k pass through?
Those seem to be relatively expensive for what they offer?
CharlesBr0ns0n You pay for support & longevity more than bleeding edge & design.
build quality... it's supposed to be better than something like xps line
Yeah but business laptops tend to be more expensive than consumer laptops. The GREAT thing is in a few years when companies start dumping hundreds and thousands of these into the used market ;)
No way would i pay full retail for one. The Dell Outlet UK has a certified refurbished i5 8th gen, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd for £718.85, compared to the full retail which is £1169. The Dell Outlet twitter also has regular discount codes - there's one for 12% off currently, making it £632.59. Honestly really good value.
@@boggieboi yes that sounds more like it! I am on the lookout for a reasonably strong notebook for my girlfriend. Hoped that around a 1000 Euro should offer a quad core CPU, 8 gigs of RAM and a SSD for OS and programs.
Somebody didn’t install the ram back into laptop fully (7:04)
If you could get your hands on the ThinkPad P52 it’d be great
And they are awesome! That 4.2 ghz version...
Ok now it's a fact that this will be my next laptop
Can I use this machine for data engineering???
Hello, can you review the Dell Latitude 5420 as well, I use one for work and it works fantastic. Would still love to hear your thoughts. Before this laptop, my attention basically revolved around macbooks and xps lineup, so I was surprised this model works very well, with complete set of ports including two thunderbolts 👍🏻👍🏻
I purchased this same laptop 7490 from amazon but my laptop has thicker top bezzel, wny is this like this?
Chulada! thank you for your feedback
Do you recommend this Laptop for design engineering (cars) or XPS 15 9575? or any other? I want a laptop to do simulations
Is the keyboard and mousepad spill resistant?
