Diston Sugar Mill

  • This is the remnants of Hamilton Disston's sugar mill in St. Cloud, Florida. Disston's canal-digging in the late 1800's turned the marsh and swamp of interior Florida of the time into viable agricultural land.
    The mill, which processed sugar cane from the nearly 1,000 acres planted in what is now the City of St. Cloud, was part of Disston's Florida Sugar Manufacturing Co. and made use of the newly-dredged system of canals to move the products to consumers.
