Good video! When giving them a new strip of stockpile, do you just let them freely graze the last areas as well? You may have mentioned it and I missed it, but how wide of a strip are you giving them to cover 2-3 days and with how many head on it?

Thanks! Yes you are correct! I forgot to mention that. I’m not putting up a back fence. Since the grass is dormant and not growing, there’s no concern of overgrazing. I’m giving about a 50 foot strip for roughly 35 animal units (cows, calves, and bull). The field at the point in the video was approximately 950 feet wide. That comes out to just over 1 acre for 2 days so about a half acre per day. I’ve gotten in to a routine of moving every two days pretty consistently and that seems to be working well. Some days I feel like they could clean it up a little better but I don’t want them to lose body condition either. Hopefully that answered your questions.

It was baled on July 27th. However, like most of the state we were in a drought so it didn’t get much growth until we got the rains in late August/September. It definitely could’ve been better but still allowed me to save quite a bit of hay.
