I just repainted the walls in my motorhome that exact same colour today😊👍...mine is a truck conversion so its basically a long high box so the colour works..ceiling is white foamex (satin) ..satin white coving and the kitchen is spring green (looks yellow to me) so blue akies and sunshine...yayyyy😊👍 oh and I bought a yellow cushion today for my ikea corner chair...what a coincedence

We all do things differently Mel. I would have made that side bench longer and put a single bed platform in the back so that I could throw any back cushions on the back and sleep on the side bench seat. I like to be able to stretch out when I lounge in the caravan of an evening. It is looking good though 👍

    Hi Mel,
The looks are quite nice, and now you can feel a "but" coming up. 😉
When you light your stove, be sure that you stick a piece of hardened glass or metal in between the tiles and the cushion which should be as high as the stove plus the thickness of the cushion and as wide as the cushion.
In that way it will be impossible for the fabric to catch fire when a piece of coal accidentally jumps out of your stove (and you know that will happen)
The problem is not that the fabric will melt, the real problem is the foam underneath! It will melt and start a fire slowly while your stove is out and you're vast asleep.
There are examples of such in the past where a whole furnitureshop went in flames because of a sigarettip between the cushions.
So, it doesn't help if you would order a thinner cushion, nor a different kind of fabric (the FR stuff) was used, unless you've ordered a foam which is 100% fire retardant.
A simple piece of hardened glass in between the stove and your seat is all it takes to make it safe as well as nice to look at.
And if you order it with a nice round edge at the front side it will look nicer and be less painful to encounter.
And for those encounters I would suggest that you choose a thickness of at least 8 millimeters or more.
Then about the upholstery which is part of my work and knowledge, (my wife and I sell home furnishings for a living, mostly curtains and flooring) it would be nicer and more comfortable if you cover the foam with white fiberfill under a bit of tension so that the edges of the foam get rounded.
Then when you cover that with a fabric it will feel much better and look softer.
Some tips on that job, when you sew the fabric along the edges with a zigzag- or overlockstich and wash it with fabric softner and upholster it when it's still a tad moist, then it will be a doddle to work with and it'll have no wrinkles or folds.
And whilst you are busy with a sewing machine stich the corners in a bit of a round shape at the front side to fit better at the round edges of the white-fiberfill-coverd cushions and the round cornerd glass.
You don't have to do this all, it just looks and feels better and it doesn't kost much more.
The only thing that you have to buy is that piece of fiberfill for a beautiful cushion.
And that piece of hardened glass which is you could make out of metal too but doesn't look as nice.
Take care and till next time greetings from Carlo & Mascha

Love the way that you’ll make a cushion to fit rather than hunt around looking for something pre made. If you do decide to make a new cushion would it make it any better to get a bigger foam to over hang the wooden from at the front? Just a thought.

Hi Mel, I love how it’s all coming along so far. I even like how the seat fabric looks but I’m more concerned about the possibility of the fabric burning than the foam. Does that make sense? Also, I would use something to hold your items under the bench seat so they don’t slide out while driving. I hope I’m not driving you crazy with my comments yet? 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

    • @BigVanSmallWorld
      @BigVanSmallWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว

why not shorten the legs a bit,
      compensating for the thicker foam?
or slide an aluminium 'firewall' at the end, this could also prevent any bedding materials getting pushed close to the stove while you sleep 😎

I patched a whole in the wall at my house. I used a water mist bottle to dampen the cured/dry, drywall mud before sanding. I used a wet sanding sponge and all the dust went to the floor like tiny crumbs. Was less messy. I wonder if you could try it with your product to see if it makes less dust for future projects. I want to try that filler.

It's exactly what is done on boat bunks to give strength, and the lip at the top stops the cushion from sliding off. Slightly off topic but looking at the battery there's a red wire coming off, no fuse?? Great idea putting the facing wood on to stop flex, I'd never have thought of that!

@@BigVanSmallWorld The main fuse needs to be as near to the battery as possible otherwise you've got a few metres of cable unprotected, if anything happens it might catch fire!!

Just a tip, when you are covering a corner (cushion)do it like you have done, but put the fold ear down the side, so there is no visible fold triangle on the front face. Not often I can help on your builds Mel, but I'm an ex upholsterer.

I need a vid about sourcing cladding. The stuff I used was clearly heavier than cheaper stuff but so much easier to work with. I guess it depends on whether you need to attach cupboards or not. The lighter cladding is like working with crisp breads! Or Ryvita! 😂
