I love the subtle details of The Chosen set designer. In Episode 1 as Mary's father is dying, they show Mary and as the camera pans to her father, there is a drooping yellow rose. In Lilith's room on a shelf is her doll and a yellow rose in a vase. In Episode 2 Mary goes to pick a yellow (flower) for the hairdresser. As she is setting up for Shabatt she places a yellow rose in a vase in the table.
I never saw that and i thought I caught everything! Watched this series about seven or more times. I gotta watch this again! This is why I love videos on the series, it really enriches the show and ministers to me. I also try to read as many of the comments as possible
I've binged watched this several times and this was the first time I noticed a tear fall from Nicodimus's eye. 🥰 And I so relate to Mary's testimony. I was one way and now I am different and the thing that happened in-between was Him! Amen!
As Cynthia said, I also love the details. They're showing us/ contrasting Nicodemus's and Mary's dinner. A couple arrived early at Nicodemus's house intending to be seated "at the head of the table", abundant meals served with expertise; a Sanhedrin pharisee presiding... Yet, Y'shua and His disciples arrived to Mary's table. I just LOVE the meaning about get to know (and be known by) "the Lord of the Sabbat" 🙌🏻🙌🏻
This was great! Thanks for reviewing this one! It's one of my favorite episodes. I love how they show us snippets of several different shabbat meals. Nicodemus' was full of pomp and riches; Peter's was one of disobedience and sadness; Matthew's was lonely (I think he must have been having some spiritual longings here for God, or at least family but let fear/shame stop him; and Mary's where she invited the blind (Shula), the lame (Barnaby) and opened her door to strangers (Thad and James). And Jesus shows up. Wow. I could watch it again and again. Can't wait for season 3 :)
Wasn't it sweet that Jesus had (obviously) sent Little James and Thaddeus...yes, his 2 first apostles (at least The Chosen-wise), but also the sweetest, most non-threatening guys in the group, to Mary's house for Shabbat?
I am so glad to have you both talk about Shabbat and what it would have been like to have Yeshua show up at your home. (Hello from Riverside, CA...Beth Simcha Congregation)
Grafted, Thank y'all so very much for taking us back to The Chosen Season 1 Episode 2, and teaching about Shabbat Shalom!✝️❤ I love y'all so very much, Brothers in Christ!!!!✝️❤😘
I Soo Wish more people could know y’all ,,, Thank You So Much for all you teach ,, It’s so Appreciated,,God Bless Y’all and your Families,, Amen, Amen🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for your insights and your tender hearts that are open to the wonder of God and all he does. I love how The Chosen is highlighting those same wonders... and I'm so glad you're reviewing Season 1!
Thank you Grafted! It i so nice to go through these episodes with you... to see the subtleties, the differences, the reactions of everyone. It is some time after this episode would have aired and I feel even more accurately, the blessing!! Be loved ❤️
I love you guys' reactions! Oh my gosh Tom, your story about dressing up as Elijah is hilarious. Today is my sabbath (I work weekends) so I'm gonna watch this episode today!
He created man for fellowship but we fell out of that fellowship through our own greed. He redeemed Isreal from Egypt, which was the type of the REAL redemption to come. God would send His Son to set us free from the real captor to which we all are in slavery. He walks with us from that minute on to part our Red Seas when we encounter them. He still walks and dwells with us today as He did the Children of Isreal, (in the cloud and the fire,) in the Wilderness. But instead of a Tabernacle built by man, He dwells ❤ in our heart.
One of my favorite episodes! Yes, Jesus allows Mary to participate and lead shabbat dinner to continue her redemption and restoration to her faith. So many contrasts in this episode of how it was being celebrated; Matthew alone with a dog, Simon working not honoring, Nico in opulence and tradition, Mary in humility and reverence. How do I honor the sabbath? O Lord help us.
Elijah’s Seat: they said that they are reserving a seat for Elijah and Yeshua sat at Elijah’s seat!!! This is my favorite episode. Its just the coming together of Jewish Shabbat rituals and Revelations 3: 20.
Love your commentaries! Just a note about Jewish men wearing kippot (as in this Sabbat dinner) . . . they did not come into being until the 20th century. My father celebrated his Bar Mitzvah in 1920 and even then did not wear a kippah. Apparently it hadn't caught on yet. lol.
Great interpretation of the Jewish culture and also very honest assessment of Mathew' lack of understanding of his own culture ethos! Thank you so much.
Tax collectors were required to collect a certain amount of tax. They made their money by charging extra on top of the taxes becuase they were not paid. This also adds to the general dislike of tax collectors.
You probably know this, but I've always loved the fact that the U.S. created the weekend -- Saturday and Sunday. As recently as the 1960s, European nations took off Thursday and Sunday. It was the U.S., from the very beginning, that recognized the sabbath -- and now, everyone does, simply because you can't be closed on Thursday if the U.S. is open for business.
Seriously! Matthew had drunk the Roman Koolaid. Indoctrinated into the anti - Hebrew philosophy. At this stage, Mathew doesn't believe there would be any way out of this life. Family has disowned him. Romans offered him a sense of validity, until Yeshua appears. Simon says to Mathew, "You're a bit off" when he's sculking around him when he goes to fish on Shabbat. When you're a drowning man, everything looks like a life preserver. Keep up the great work, guys. So true Sam. The Chosen has brought THE WORD to life for me. I can't tell you how many times I've watched all the episodes. It's always awkward, when a frock star shows up, 👍😇
@Grafted - Hi everyone😁 I know you’re busy but I was wondering if you had plans in the near future to do reactions to the rest of Season 1 of The Chosen. Your reaction videos are the best, they’re my favorite💜
Simon isn't spending money on drinks because he's being foolish. In fact quite the opposite. In the previous scene Matthew points out that he is not as chummy with the merchant fisherman as he claimed to be. Dominus also says he had yet to deliver him any of the merchant fishermen. Other than James and John, the other fisherman he is buying drinks for are stated to be the merchant fishermen. He's buying them drinks to build trust with them so he can learn where they fish on Shabbat and turn them in to Dominus. Simon is foolish plenty of times and he's certainly behaved foolishly to compile the debts he has, but that is not what is happening in this scene
Not a Jew, so I have some questions. Love the whole idea of Shabbat dinner. Are people accustomed to strangers just coming to their door for Shabbat dinner? Like Thaddeus and Little James did?
People welcomed traveling strangers much more often in antiquity and even a hundred years ago. Even in the late 1800s, there are records of Jewish and Arab travelers hosting each other in Israel.
We don’t watch a lot of TV, but watching both of The Chosen series for the seventh time❤️ for the most part I enjoy watching you too… you just need to be a little more serious.
I feel that Matthew is a little OCD. His behaviors includes obsession with order, by the book routines and law, counting, meticulous about himself, and an inability to verbally suppress thoughts.
If you look deeply into the scenes, Matthew has gone out to be with family, anyone. He ends up Shabbot with his dog. The only one who loves him. Mary has seen Jesus and has Shabbot with Jesus and Little James and Thaddeus and others. Nicodemus has Shabbot with law. Who is most peaceful?
I disagree with your interpretation (~ 9:00 min mark) a bit here, fellas. Matthew isn't going to Quintus to try and ruin Simon & Andrew's life. He went there because his ledgers will be wildly off if he (Matthew) forgives Simon & Andrew's debt ... and it wasn't approved by Quintus. He's going to Quintus - not so much to rat them out - but to cover his own hind-quarters. He is attempting to stay out of trouble. So, perhaps, Matthew isn't quite as mean-spirited as you paint him to be.
Matthew (this version) is an extremely logical person, and in his mind his obligation to his employer is all he had (family and people disowned him for taking his "best" opportunity). I don't think he was meaning to be immoral based on his neurodivergent personality. But he was definitely on the wrong side.
Tom and Sam, I do remember Psalty! For me, that was my first year of being a brand new Christian! The brand new Christian radio station played fantastic children's programs and Bible teaching! My first year in Jesus was so memorable!! BTW, that first year was in 1980, and I was 23 years old. 😊👍🤗🤗
I disagree. I am sure there were people like Matthew who were not "normal" in the sense of the word. Sometime those who are a bit more intelligent than others lack in the social department. Matthew would consider his duty to his job as a top priority. Look at IRS agents who would put any of their countryman, religious comrades and I am sure even family member in prison for violating the law.
Of course, Jesus would have Mary say the words....because wouldn't he be blessing himself when he said the words....well he did pray so....makes you think.
She would preside in her own home. If she asked him to do it then he could decline or accept. But she was prepared to read the words already and needed to go ahead with it.
Whenever Jesus appears in these episodes, I start smiling and clutching my heart. And when he leaves, as in episode 3 with the children, I was shocked to find myself crying tempestuously, and sobbing, “Where did He goooo.” Okay. I confess, I’m madly in love with Jesus-God. If He would show up at my door, I would not just stare and stare. I would probably swoon and fall into a dead faint. Not for long, I hope. Can’t miss a minute….
It was God Himself that established the Biblical 7th day Sabbath, not the Jews, even though traditionally the Jews have observed it. But they did not invent it. God did.
I don't agree with your opinion of Matthew...he is..a different kind of being sane... I believe he is just misdirected but will go to extremes for what he believes is right... Jesus reset his point of view! Not as interested in Simon and Andrew, but that the tax situation is set right.
Hello I'm 5min in and u say "Christian celebrating the Sabbath on Sunday" is a stretch. So on Sat. at sundown to Sun. sundown they do no work, shopping and no yard sales? I know people who go to church on Sunday after church football and grilling no problem, but it's hard to take in that their keeping the Sabbath. A little rough to hear someone who doesn't keep the Sabbath explain it at least I think u don't. Here's some scripture that shows that in heaven u will keep the Sabbath Isaiah 66:23 And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord. I have to point out says the Lord. Remember it's not the Sabbath of Jews it's the Sabbath of the Lord. Matthew 12:8 For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” We want to follow Jesus as our example Luke 4:16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. Mark 7:7 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ One more Matthew 5:18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. I'll add a study handout on the Sabbath www.amazingfacts.org/media-library/study-guide/e/4984/t/the-lost-day-of-history
I appreciate that you both refer to Yeshua by His proper name and don’t refer to Him as Jesus. As Yeshua was the name His mother called Him as well as His disciples. Ty
I am very disappointed that after Mr. Jenkins has on many occasions proclaimed a false gospel, is heavily involved with a cult and has decided his show is no longer "for entertainment only" and is now an accurate portrayal of Christ that you two are still supporting and promoting the series. "For if someone comes and proclaims a Jesus other than the One we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit than the One you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you put up with it way too easily."
Try to take in account that the selected video is from a Mormon filmmaker. Naturally the Bible is accurate
@@shadowlands8490 - the film maker is not mormon. the distributors are. The film maker is a Christian.
I didn't see the yellow rose in Lilith's room. Do you know what time in the episode it is?
Could you imagine hearing a knock on the door and you open it, and Jesus is standing there and just says, HELLO...?
I would laugh. He brings so much joy. 😁
I love the reminder of the covenant and importance of Shabbat
LOVE Matthew!! both actor and human being.
Oh for crying out loud! The part where Jesus comes to the door right when the guests see the star. 😭😭😭😭😭🙌🙌🙌🙌
I've binged watched this several times and this was the first time I noticed a tear fall from Nicodimus's eye. 🥰 And I so relate to Mary's testimony. I was one way and now I am different and the thing that happened in-between was Him! Amen!

I just love you guys doing these reviews! I learn so much from each review!!!! Thank you
I love watching your comments on the show. I’ve learned so much from you guys. Watching from Bakersfield, California.
Thank you Grafted! It i so nice to go through these episodes with you... to see the subtleties, the differences, the reactions of everyone. It is some time after this episode would have aired and I feel even more accurately, the blessing!! Be loved ❤️
Me too! I thought of Psalty too! Lol. I think we may have aged ourselves! Lol. Bless you both for this ministry!
I love you guys' reactions! Oh my gosh Tom, your story about dressing up as Elijah is hilarious. Today is my sabbath (I work weekends) so I'm gonna watch this episode today!
It’s such a sign of respect for Mary!!
love Robby Dawkins...and love both of your insights on these Chosen clips/episodes. God is good!
I just love Eden's "wife-isms". She is such a believable wife for Simon.
He created man for fellowship but we fell out of that fellowship through our own greed. He redeemed Isreal from Egypt, which was the type of the REAL redemption to come. Love this.
Hey everyone. Smash the like button!
Great interpretation of the Jewish culture and also very honest assessment of Mathew' lack of understanding of his own culture ethos! Thank you so much.
Jesus did introduce himself to Tamar when they met and he told her he had grown up in Egypt.
Tom is gonna have a whole collection of tiny mugs very soon.
I think Matthew is motivated by his commitment to his employer. He thinks his employer is being cheated. He has no guile.
Tax collectors were required to collect a certain amount of tax. They made their money by charging extra on top of the taxes becuase they were not paid. This also adds to the general dislike of tax collectors.
Happy New Year Grafted! Hey, are you guys going to be part of the filming of the 5K? Would love to see you there!

Hi grafted family
Oh man, I felt so bad for Matthew in this episode, he doing his Shabbat dinner with the dog 😭💔

I always thought that Matthew went to Quintus to do a good job being a responssble person, not to ruin their lives… interesting
Not a Jew, so I have some questions. Love the whole idea of Shabbat dinner. Are people accustomed to strangers just coming to their door for Shabbat dinner? Like Thaddeus and Little James did?

Perfetto…
I feel that Matthew is a little OCD. His behaviors includes obsession with order, by the book routines and law, counting, meticulous about himself, and an inability to verbally suppress thoughts.
Mary has probably never hosted a Shabbat dinner.
I rewatched Season 1 earlier and when I saw Matthew's scenes, I now get it why Simon and Andrew hate him so much.
And to think people were against Simon and defended Matthew in Seasons 2 Episode 3 😒 Simon had all right to Said everything he Said
Stupid question, but were candles a thing back then, especially among poor people? I thought they used oil lamps.

I KNOW RIGHT??! SAVERE BED HEAD !!
Always wondered how Mary got hooked up with doing hair?
OH. A WEEK OF AGES. THE ACHARIT-HAYAMIM IS THE SHABBAT AGE. #BookofEnoch

Ah yes ment LOTS

Nico, John told you about him and you did not believed him.
SimonPeter is not such a good guy either, before Yeshua called him. Everyone changes when called by our L_rd.
Do you read your Bible that often as a messianic or is it just me
Over too quickly.
Kiddush???:Dude I thought you were Messianic Jews!? Please look things up before hand
Did you guys move Gerald out of view?....
😂
We're there female tax collectors back then? 🤔🤔🤔
I don't think so.
Drinking and gambling the money that he was blessed of by God….is so foolish
