I really thought this was a horror movie, until I watched it only to realize it's a thriller or so. There's still some few horror elements in this movie nonetheless. The twist was really surpirsing, this was a great movie
I believe Sam is not their brother (well kinda is). Since Jane was abused by their father and Sam is way younger than the other 3 so i have a teory that Sam is actually Jane's son with her own father, but he's being raised as their younger brother as i have seen in some real cases of abuse that resulted in a child.
Yeahh, theres a moment on the movie se says "I have Sam" on a mommy way, While refers to "Jack as having Ellie", and the middle brother is lonely one... Shit this movie goes bizarre most you think of...
There is a massive plot hole though. The dad is clearly physically well enough to stab Tom and strangle Allie....so why wasn't he able to get out of that room? There is a chimney that doesn't look too difficult to climb, but more importantly, it's an old decrepit house. It would be fairly easy to bust through a wall or floor. Hell, the siblings decaying bodies even soaked through the floorboards and stained the ceiling. It would have been incredibly easy to get through that floor. That is why I believed that Jack was also his father right up until the end. He still might be and Allie is actually dead as well. Hence the doll of her at the end. The only thing that breaks that logic is her visit to the doctor, which could technically be in Jack's mind too.
but he has no motive to kill his own siblings so, your take on this would have been a double plot but sadly enough it wouldn’t be credible enough unless it was rewritten
He was mentally insane I believe the father did kill the siblings but at the end he was the father in the attic Really Sad but I liked this movie a lot
@@roshondahale239 the father got killed in the attic and his girlfriend went to the hospital to get him help, having multiple personality disorder doesn’t mean he would just wake up one day and kill his own family. he loved and protected his family with all his heart since it was all he really had and when he failed, he started to create the ‘personalities’ to continue living in another reality that wouldn’t hurt him, which is understandable. losing your loved ones hurts a lot, an surreal pain, so he pretended he didn’t lose them. the personalities however were kinda real, since the spirits of his siblings still lived on, they temporarily possessed him to call his girlfriend for help since he didn’t wanna get the girlfriend involved himself out of fear of failure and disappointment, and the fact that she’d probably run away, he didn’t want her to find out at all costs but his dead siblings told her the truth so that he wouldn’t kill himself from all that heavy load he was carrying all alone (hence the very severe anxiety attack and the suicide attempt), i believe his siblings saved him from killing himself, in an attempt to play their mother’s song that made him feel safe. the only thing i don’t get is how his siblings were dead for 6 months and his girlfriend didn’t question their absence , even after meeting them. and in the beginning, he mentions that his family made a friend i feel like they shouldn’t have made , but she actually saved and relieved them all, had me thinking she was the bad guy at first

It was actually Jack who killed the Lawyer while being in his fathers personality. Listen to what his girlfriend Allie said when the father was approaching. She was calling all the names of the dead siblings like giving Jack power to gain back consciousness and let go of that father personality.
No, when she was calling the siblings Jack was obviously downstairs as he heard her calls. Jack came up & shot the father, So Jack & the father were seperate. Who knows why the father didn't dig hus way out or jump to escape from the attic.

Anya-Taylor Joy is a rising star, with some of the biggest eyes I've ever seen. She was excellent in The Witch, as well. Looking forward to seeing her in The New Mutants. I'm a big fan of George McCay, too. Loved him in 1917.
I cried a lot what a painful story. That's why they promised to be as one because they will stay alive in Jack's. His mental problem was caused of his guilt of losing his sibling without even protecting them when they died.
@Samael that's because they aren't ghosts, but Jack. The mirrors were covered up because the reflection would only show Jack, disturbing the fantasy, or identity, of the siblings.
Just saw it now in March 2020,was recently recommended and wow glad I watched it,so good I wasn't that interested at first but when I saw it has Anya Taylor-Joy in it I had to check it out,love that actress,also it was nice to see George MacKay again,previously only saw him in 1917. Now I wanna see more films with him

The thing about this movie that Im not completely understand is that why is Jack restricted the other from the mirror? What's the correlation about the mirror?
I'm thinking because his siblings wouldn't have a reflection and that would make Jack come to the realization that they are dead. He didn't want to be reminded at what happened.
They would have a reflection sometimes, only it wouldn't be theirs but Jacks. So when Sam says he saw something disturbing in the mirror he really did, he saw Jack and possibly, not knowing how to handle that truth, distorted what he saw into the ghost. Jack effectively made himself the ghost because he couldn't cope with the death of his siblings.

The dad broke in and killed them. The kids were, unfortunately, locked in the basement and couldn’t escape. Jack was knocked out/hit his head so he couldn’t protect them. I think the guilt of his actions, by locking the kids away he actually made it easier for the dad to kill them.

@@John-mz8rj yeah I'm a bit confused as to what Jack's reasoning was for why his siblings had to stay home all the time. He said she could visit when their mother recovered but why couldn't the others leave? Unless I missed that part, could very well have.
