@Sam C to give them their due, the american money, supplies and troops helped break the resolve of the german empire quicker but their defeat was inevitable. The yanks like to take the credit for winning a war in which they only lost 50,000 men in combat to, as opposed to the near 2 million native british and colonial casualties and the million French army casualties.
@Sam C I never said the allies would lose but they certainly helped end the war quicker. By the early months of 2017, France was largely on its last legs, with the war ravaging a lot of its land and many of its army killed due to poor strategies and decisions (like wearing extremely visible/noticeable clothing), Russia was having problems with an untrained and unequipped army plus a revolution that ousted Tsar Nicholas. Britain was the only nation truly keeping the war alive and they would have kept fighting to the point where they would cause Germany to strike a ceasefire. But without the US, the war likely would have ended in 1919.
Yeah, that's the best part of the movie. The thing that really sold the scene to me. The rest of the running sequence felt like it could've been planned, but two separate full-on collisions seems like it would've been way to difficult to execute on purpose. They couldn't swap the main actor with a stuntman and they couldn't risk severely hurting the main actor either. Not to mention the fact that both of those colliding soldiers would've had to be stuntmen as well. They couldn't use regular extras for that. So you'd need to swap the main actor with a stuntman, make the stuntman perfectly hit another stuntman (out of hundreds of random extras) and then hit yet another stuntman (out of hundreds of random extras) *THEN* swap to the main actor without the audience noticing. All of that would've needed to happen with perfect timing and precision. It would've been *IMPOSSIBLE* to do safely on purpose.
It's the first movie I've ever watched where I feel like I'm with the characters on the adventure. It's so well shot like one continuous thing. Brilliant.
I met him a while back in london and stupidly forgot to take a picture with him, he's so nice and lovely and i have a major crush on him, best day of my life!

all of a sudden I've seen George McKay in 5 movies over 2 years, and I wasn't even aware of it happening 🌠 His star's on the rise and frankly he's an *amazing intensely emotional actor who gives fully heartfelt and-or deep-down-wound portrayals* Remind me please of the last actor who did that. Let me add, I've now watched a couple of his interviews and he shows a high intelligence (emotionally + intellectually) of the process + intracies of acting + filmmaking. He's clearly in the moment & very responsive. George stay on track, don't join social media, even with an anonymous account. Keep onwards but *do not burn yourself out* Do only 2 or 3 projects per year. Read + read, stay fit + healthy, be with family + friends, get practice + coaching with experts + academia, and read more. You stand out as a *very gifted young man who will have decades of success* ahead 🌠

He is relatively unknown with his most popular films, Captain Fantastic and Pride, taking $21.3M and $16.7M reflectively, though he has been in a number of movies since 2017, even starring alongside Daisy Ridley in Ophelia. 1917 is definitely a big jump forward for George, and I couldn't be more proud of him.

That scene gave me chills. The whole movie was simply fantastic. Definitely up there as one of my favorite war movies. Beautiful story. Incredible directing and filming. It was worth seeing.
Those two falls and hits made that scene way more realistic. Really cool that they kept it in there because that’s a lot more like what would’ve probably really happened in that scenario. There is just a wave of people attacking in that moment and he’s got to run through them. Very believable and very nicely done.
It gives more action in a scene that otherwise would've just been a straight boring shot without much real suspense. Falling down twice in that hell and getting up really sells the urgency and fragility of his mission.

This is the most quiet and respectful interview ever. I loved it. And what a professional young man!
Jimmy: "Tell everyone what 1917 is about"
George: "1917 is set in the WWI"
America: "You had me at war"

America: ayy lmao
@Sam C That was WW2. America barely fought in WW1 and were 18th on the most powerful nations list...1 below Romania
That "mistake" was actually what pushed me over the edge into full on crying, just gushing weeping. This film is pure a miracle magic movie.

I cried and Nanny stared at me
It made it so much better. Really ramped up the tension as you're thinking "oh shit get up come on!"

Dean Charles Chapman

HE IS SHY OMG HE'S SO ADORABLE😭😭😭💔
SHOULD’VE BEEN NOMINATED FOR AN OSCAR BUT WHATEVER
no
Absolutely, Americans are very good at navel gazing
does this guy really nvr been cast in any film b4? idk(since im an asian) but his face looks like he doesn't belong in this era. he looks so cute in the uniform
Actor: “That was a mistake that was not meant to happen”
Jimmy: *gasp* “really”!
(All while spending the prior 3 minutes before that setting up for the story of there being a mistake)
I just find it super funny that you can tell how planned out these shows are, cool none the less
Socrates A his show is 99% planned, only Americans dont realize so much stuff is staged
All these types of chat shows are pre-planned, e.g. Graham Norton
So true
Jimmy Fallon is the fakest of them all
That's just how Jimmy Fallon is. It's like he's never really engaged in the conversation.
"The Devonshires held this trench, the Devonshires hold it still"
- quote from the memorial at the Devonshire Regiment cemetery in France
The fact he isn’t being talked about as an Oscar contender is a travesty!!!!
Shevi Sloane I agree his performance was incredible
He was good in it. But when you look at the nominees this year it is clear he didn't stand a chance.
Andrea Canini they had two guys from The Irishman,, who basically played the same character nominated. One could’ve went for George MacKay.
@@soph5707 I'm not sure you understand how the categories work. There is a difference between supporting actor and lead actor. MacKay would have been competing only with De Niro, who didn't even get nominated, so I don't know why you would bring up The Irishman in the first place
The things that happen to him are freakin unbelievable!
It kind of made it more real that the guy who fell didn't get back up, like he was too scared to get up and possibly run to his death.
I can't wait to see this guy in more movies, his performance in 1917 was so believable
Look out for True History of the Kelly Gang, coming out this year.
Sarah Schesser
Damn it George is insane this year
George Mackay is definitely my favorite actor. He's brilliant.
I love him since How I live now and Private Peaceful.
Jimmy Fallon never seems into his interviews. He doesn't come across as a genuine guy while interviewing. This movie is fantastic! Please see it if you haven't

George is sooo talented... check out his other films... he was such a hottie in the film Ophelia ..
Funny as there’s a scene in the movie that mirrors Millais painting of Ophelia
I loved him in Captain Fantastic!
11.22.63 on Hulu!!! He's great
Check out 11.22.63 his acting is great on that one.
I really loved him in Marrowbone!
Why is no one talking about his role in “How I live now” with Saoirse Ronan?!? That movie is incredible.
Because most people are watching clit flix and chill
Katia Maski my fave movie ☺️
Because 1917 is a big movie and he had a lead role.
emma Marting I know right!! The scoring and cinematography is incredible :))
I just finished watching that movie!! I ended up crying a little at the end but it’s such an amazing film
Just saw it yesterday. Mendes has elevated the genre with this absolute masterpiece. I loved Parasite but this should have won the Oscar for best picture. The level of craftsmanship is incomparable.
It really feels like he's been around forever. Been a fan of his since Johnny and the Bomb back in 2006.

I can't breathe....this movie was extrodinarly beautiful, thank you for making this interview w/ George Mackay.
The ending scene when he sits down and rest, while looking at the amazing view and neuter, that scene was so emotional and quite and just peacefull.... It was so awesome....
Movie starts with him sleeping against a tree and ends with him sleeping against a tree.
Can’t believe he was in Peter Pan when he was smaller 😁
YOUNGER. Not smaller...
I knew it, his face was so familiar
He wasn't Peter Pan. He was in the movie Peter Pan as Curli but he wasn't Peter Pan.
D One no one said he was. She said “he was in Peter Pan”
@@weasley2o13well he was smaller then
all of a sudden I've seen George McKay in 5 movies over 2 years, and I wasn't even aware of it happening 🌠 His star's on the rise and frankly he's an *amazing intensely emotional actor who gives fully heartfelt and-or deep-down-wound portrayals* Remind me please of the last actor who did that.
Not an unknown. Had a killer part in the series on Hulu with James Franco. Played a guy from Kentucky in the series 11.22.63 and really nailed the accent so it’s cool to see this happen too for him!! 👍👍
I thought he looked familiar. Thanks for reminding. He was indeed brilliant in that series.
Chris Hudson I couldn’t figure out why I know him!
Thijs Esseboom he definitely was!
Yeah he definitely looked familiar, his accent throw me off. Loved the series.
I thought he was really from the American South in 11/22/63
I've seen war movies, but I've never seen a war movie presented like a Remarkable Masterpiece i.e 1917
I got emotional and speechless in the end.
This movie and George Mackey both deserve the Oscar!
That scene is just unbelievable, give me the shiver every time I watch it!!
I just saw this movie 4 hours ago and yeah he will never be an unknown again.
He’s wonderful in Pride, another very important film
sounds gay....

unknown? George is literally the reason i watched this film lol
Verity Rose unknown doesn’t mean literally no one knows him. They are just saying the vast majority of the public does not know his name.
Me too!!!
Tips: if you haven’t seen the movie, and haven’t seen this clip, DONT.
Dont watch the trailer as well. One of the best scene I’ve seen shouldn’t be in the trailer. I was lucky I didnt see it and went straight to the film.
My god what a climactic scene.
He should have been nominated for best actor
Understatement
He is relatively unknown with his most popular films, Captain Fantastic and Pride, taking $21.3M and $16.7M reflectively, though he has been in a number of movies since 2017, even starring alongside Daisy Ridley in Ophelia. 1917 is definitely a big jump forward for George, and I couldn't be more proud of him.
His performance was absolutely riveting! I was so drawn into the movie and his character it was amazing.
First saw him in 11.22.63 great show on Hulu
He was literally the reason why I watched this film. I saw him in pride and he was really good, and he was absolutely awesome in 1917
I’m British but listening to him makes me understand why other people love our accent so much 😅

“Kids open your books! There was a guy that accidentally messed up this big big scene!”

This guy deserved a best actor nomination.
