Most people have a perfect foam rubber cutter in their house. You know those electric knives used to cut the turkey during the holidays? They work fantastic for cutting foam rubber.
Glad to see you bring those iconic stools from the brink of death. I don't think I would have had the patience to do it, but obviously it was worth the effort. Of course, you know what this means...you need a Witco bar now!
A Witco bar is the ultimate goal for the upstairs tiki space. The Krypton bar I refurbished is serving in that role now, but if a nice Witco piece happens across my path at the right price...
I just saw your episode on BossaNova Life and did not fully realize exactly the scope of work you have put into the Lagoon of Mystery, how large the area is, and how good the Witco stools go next to the bar. As a result of this epiphany, I now consider you to be one of the elite in the home tiki bar space. Thanks for your contributions in other forums as well. Another acknowledgement of your efforts is how I see advice seekers being referred to something you did (drilling glass floats, burning bamboo, etc.). Mahalo.
Thanks for the kind words, Glenn! Yes, the space of the Lagoon is difficult to convey--it's easy to imagine the bar and booth being adjacent to each other. In any normal universe, they would be! I don't consider my space elite, however. To attain that level I need a LOT more layering. But I'm happy folks are finding my videos of use. I like to say I make the mistakes so others don't have to! 😂
@@LagoonofMystery I got lucky recently with 4 Paul Frankl style stools and matching bar (I heard Frankl didn’t make bars so I’m skeptical that this is his work but.. still looks great) similar situation as the person listed it as “bar with stools” so I pounced quickly!
@@mikeysteins1784 Nice! I'd like to get a Frankl sofa for my interior space, because they're sweet! And yes, if you happen upon a treasure that is flying under the radar, you have to be ready to pounce before someone else does. And even if the bar is a Frankl knock-off, the fact that it is a matching set makes you look stylish and hip to your admiring (and envious) friends! 😉
@@LagoonofMystery I was curious, so I did a FB Marketplace search, just for kicks and giggles, I just saw 2 of the same Witco stools advertised for $650! Anything good in my area either does not exist or is extremely expensive...sigh...
Yes! That's the way most of us do it. Sure, some folks are able to shell out thousands to make their tiki space spring into being, fully formed. But if you're on a budget, you have to keep your powder dry so to speak, and be on the lookout for deals. I never would've been able to afford these Witco stools at market rates! It all adds up!
I was skeptical about Howard's at first, but after using it to restore the weather-beaten Witco hanging planter I found a couple of years ago I am now a convert!
I'm still finding it kinda hard to believe! I mean, I thought I was lucky when I found that Witco planter in Tucson (and I was!) but this is an order of magnitude greater...
@@LagoonofMystery Not that it's possible to go back in time and find out, but I'd be curious to see how five of those stools came to be together! While I'm no Witco expert, I thought they came mostly in groups of two, and sometimes three. Did someone have 2.5 Witco bar sets? haha
@@adambhoy I know, right? These stools shipped in pairs with the Hacienda bar. I'm assuming they could be ordered individually, so maybe the original owner picked up the additional three so they could host four guests total and have one to sit on themself? The seller didn't know anything about a bar--a relative gave them the stools 20 years ago.

glad to learn about the bees-wax product. I have an old weathered tiki that needs to be treated. This is a great video demonstration.
