Great hunt and video! At 70 years old I can no longer do those workouts. I’ve hunted the elk hard and high for 30 years but now am hunting through videos like yours, thank you!
Same here but I'm only 61 and can't feel my feet any more and last year was my final hunt after falling down one too many times during white tail hunting. These videos are all I have left to remind me of exciting past hunts. When I was young all my friends hunted and fished hard and there was never enough time to do it all but we tryed.Back then you never thought of getting old and did it all and now we live through these videos.
At age 74 I still hunt whitetails, but your adventure makes me miss my 20 years living in Northern Idaho and Colorado bow hunting elk. Back in the early 1970s my Colorado State pals, and I taught ourselves where and how to bow hunt elk and the woods were basically empty of other hunters.
Excellent work! Definitely worked hard in trying to recover the first bull. Only to find out that the shot was a solid miss. The second bull taken was a very solid bull elk trophy as well as tasty. Thanks for making this all happen.
Absolutely Awesome Brother Im 65 just retired hunted Elk once in Noxon Montana before best hunting trip of my life even though I didn't kill an Elk the Guides and their Families were so Awesome maybe one day I will go again ❤ RMEF Forever
I always watch these videos on here and get all psyched up for elk season.... Then when I go hunting, I don't even see elk. LOL I gotta quit doing this to myself. These make it look so easy and like there are elk behind every tree.
I would have to say, this was one of if not the one!!! Fricking great story telling and wicked editing. Congrats on a great bull and a fantastic video..Thank you!!
That was Epic. Bull of a Lifetime. God Blessed You with a 2nd chance. I couldn't even imagine packing out an animal that size. Call in a Chopper. It would be worth it. 💯💯💯
great hunt and to get the Bull you missed the first time how awesome is that . Beautiful bull congratulations wish this hunt continues and we see the rest of your hunt .
I’m a member of the f4wm as well. I got two wolf tags and an elk tag in my pocket for the panhandle. Sure hope I can fill at least two of those tags. That’s an awesome bull you got man and you guys worked for it. Great job 👍🏻
I'm your newest subscriber, that was an awesome hunt!! What a solid stud bull, and omg what a great shot at 575 yards. Hey, congratulations on a great bull. Awesome camera work as well. Jay from central Pa.
YEEESSSSSS!!!! WELL DONE BOYS!👊👊👊 Man what a bummer to miss that first bull and then to smash that bull is awesome! I don't think it's the same bull though! The bull killed has way wider 3rd's and you'd see them sticking out more on the first bull after you stopped him and he looked right at you. Two totally different bulls in my opinion but no matter, you killed a slammer of a public land general tag bull!!!
Love the film, and you do you but I would really rethink putting spotter on outside of your pack like that. Otherwise great film and great bull. Very jealous and hope to do the same in Colorado this year!
Idaho is great state ,I hunted the Segway wilderness area a fly in to the ranger station.then 20 miles in on horse back, absolutely beautiful back country tooget away from local hunters, always scored on a week hunt ,for elk ,go during the bugle season ,the sound echoing threw the mountains ⛰️, you will always smile and remember, good luck on a hunt of a life time in the mountains of the great state of Idaho.
Your right about one thing, that was your bull! The spirit brought him to you and than calmed him for another opportunity, no doubt in my mind that was the same bull, and no doubt in my mind that you are truly blessed 🙏 🙌❤️🔥 Thanks for the hope!
I Shot a 6x7 last year with a 300 win mag at 180 yds. He took of running with little sign of being hit. Have him 10 minutes and went to where he was standing and no sign of blood. My heart sank, there was no way I missed it? Started tracking it in the dirt and he was piled up in a gully 50 yds from where I hit him. These beasts are tough as nails, gotta be tougher than them lol
Blessings in an abundance of the faith. I salute you. 😘🙏Grace and peace be unto you and to this place. God bless you. 🕯️Thank you. Will you believe and receive Jesus Christ as your lord and personal saviour??? I do. 🌈
I watch these hunting videos and wonder how all the super great high-tech gear the native Americans hunted and fed the whole tribe with homemade re-curved bows back in the Stone Age to 1700s
There is no way you missed that close of a shot. Not with a rifle that is sighted at 200, Only you know if you are capable of missing a 150-300-yard on a 3x3 target. But that was a perfect setup that bull stop perfect. I just can't believe you missed the entire large Elk, Somthing is wrong there, Either the worst shot ever, or not sighted in. Fk I can't explain it in my own mind. I guess sh*t happens. I have had some bad shots in my day but never missed the entire animal in the wide-open broadside at the dead stop. I think there is a dead elk out there. No blood is odd but not unheard of. My comment is so long because I'm trying to work this out in my own head as I type. LMAO
I know where you’re coming from, this was a heart wrenching moment for us. The one thing is, Matt shot at the bull free hand. I filmed every moment from when we saw the bull to when I stopped it. It happened real fast and after reviewing the footage and following the tracks for about 4 miles I truly believe that bull was not hit and was completely fine. It was really tough to stay positive after that but we did and it panned out!
So, what you saw was the exact amount of time for the encounter, Matt shot freehand within 5 seconds of seeing the bull and just pulled the shot we're guessing.
Great hunt and video! At 70 years old I can no longer do those workouts. I’ve hunted the elk hard and high for 30 years but now am hunting through videos like yours, thank you!
Thank you so much, this is the type of comment that keeps me wanting to make hunting videos!

woods without hunters sounds like a dream!
I have been watching your videos for years it saddened me when they slacked off for a while I hope your back. You and your family are amazing.
Thank you!
I watched this like I was hunting. I was so cold and was also so excited!
That’s awesome! Thank you for watching!
I’ve never been elk hunting but I’m trying to get in better shape for it now. Just hiking with no weight on that snow is hard. Congratulations
Solid work.
I remember running into you guys on the packout, absolute hammer bull!!
Heck yea bud!
Excellent work! Definitely worked hard in trying to recover the first bull. Only to find out that the shot was a solid miss. The second bull taken was a very solid bull elk trophy as well as tasty. Thanks for making this all happen.
Thank you!

Thank you!

That’s how most days go for us too! We got lucky with the weather system we had keeping elk on their feet this trip!
I would have to say, this was one of if not the one!!! Fricking great story telling and wicked editing. Congrats on a great bull and a fantastic video..Thank you!!
Thank you, really appreciate it!

thank you, the rest of this hunt will come out sunday 9/8!
My heart sank when you missed the first time. Awesome video guys
That was a tough miss to come back from!
I was sad and happy at the same time because at least he didn’t wound the animal. Sometimes it’s better to miss. At the end it paid off…
No matter hiw good with a rifle you are, we''ve all been there at least once. It was good that bull was not wounded and lost.😮
Great video!! Cannot wait for our hunt on a week
Thank you, and good luck!
Awesome mate, thats wicked looking country to hunt.
thanks man!

I wouldn't be able to do a back countey trip like that because if injuries however that would've been the best trip ever!!

Great Video! Going to be in Unit 27 next week. Holding an Elk Deer and Bear tag. Hopefully I find a monster like this!

Man, we are pumped up too!

That's a great bull...even better that after the miss, in bad weather, you guys got back on your horse and kept moving forward. Perseverance!
Awesome 👌
Hell of a hunt!
thank you!
Great hunt and great bull! No Idaho thirds on that guy. Looks like you've found yourself a nice honeyhole there.
Thank you!
Congratulations on a great bull. 👍👍👍
thank you!
Appreciate you guys filming for my entertainment. Good work guys! The shooter thinks quite a bit... Anyway, you got it done and that's what counts 😜🎉
It's God's Will...No luck involved!
When hunting my Dad told me never let your rifle hit the ground.
Repping the Idaho city hotshots hat 🤙🏻🤙🏻
thank you, it's tough but is one of the most rewarding experiences!
Love the film, and you do you but I would really rethink putting spotter on outside of your pack like that. Otherwise great film and great bull. Very jealous and hope to do the same in Colorado this year!
The drone shot pull away from the antlers was a cool shot
That was taken with an iphone!

Nice work! What's the rifle, scope, and cartridge?
It’s a tikka T3 rifle in 7mm, Hornaday 162 grain ELD X and the scope is a Vortex Razor.
Congrats on the bull!! The first bull was a 7x7, did you guys ever see him again?
Thank you! No we didn’t, followed his tracks for about 4 miles that day never did see him again.
Is there more to this hunt that y'all are gonna post? Badass stuff
Yes, the next episode will come out on 9/8!
Good eat
You need a couple good mules packing that out for you. 👊
You got that right!
what tent and stove is that I like it
It’s the seek outside 4 man tipi with their small stove.
what a beautiful elk. Lots of meat. Congrats
Thank you!
Nice
What is the name of the sling holder for your backpack?
It is a frankenstud sling keeper I believe.
What riffle were you using
Tikka T3 7mm rem. mag
Blessings in an abundance of the faith. I salute you. 😘🙏Grace and peace be unto you and to this place. God bless you. 🕯️Thank you. Will you believe and receive Jesus Christ as your lord and personal saviour??? I do. 🌈
What did that bull score?
Amazing - the Art of Survival - so few know.
What caliber you shooting?
7 mm rem. mag
I am certainly not a fan of shooting past 300 yards. I would rather do the hunting part. And I have been there myself thirty five times. Nice bull.
I watch these hunting videos and wonder how all the super great high-tech gear the native Americans hunted and fed the whole tribe with homemade re-curved bows back in the Stone Age to 1700s
Whats the product called that holds your gun sling on your pack?
It’s called a “frankenstud sling keeper”
Why don't they have on hunter orange do they have that law in idaho or is this on a game farm
Hunter orange is not required in Idaho.
What caliber?
7mm rem mag.

how can you miss 100-200 yards off a backpack. slam dunk for a person who practiced.
It was a free hand shot.
What area Of Idaho were you all hunting in?
Matt, nice job! Also, give up and just shave your head, you won't regret it ;)
Good video but the whispering shit don't get it! Narrate the film later! You know what you said but I don't have a clue!
Sorry about that, I like to show what really happens on a hunt. Sometimes whispering is really hard to capture on mics.
So I'm wondering where is your Hunter Orange? Not wearing it is what gets a lot of hunters killed!
There is no hunter orange requirement in Idaho.
You want a tough hunt, try using a bow!!! hunt
Oh we bow hunt for elk too.
No hunters orange? Not very smart!
There’s no requirement for orange in Idaho.
wonder if it was your gun me and my grandson found in oregon.......... nice boys.
😂 thank you!
How, with a mountain rifle and a Elk BODY, miss?
yeah. curious what happened there.
So, what you saw was the exact amount of time for the encounter, Matt shot freehand within 5 seconds of seeing the bull and just pulled the shot we're guessing.
@@AbandonOutdoors was wondering if was the scope dialed to 600 or something. Freehand at 200 can surely happen.
