Down pants and an extra warm down jacket are a game changer for me. Not a lot more weight and a ton of extra comfort. It also lets you get away with a sleeping bag or quilt that is not as warm as you would normally take. A bit bulkier of a system but a lot more comfortable and versatile!
Good to hear your thoughts too! I haven't yet used the down pants for long glassing but stoked to try it out. I'm not quite brave enough to bring my summer bag instead of the super warm bag though. 😬
That's one of the ones I've been looking at! I like what I've seen from EE but have never owned one. The updated quilt from Outdoor Vitals looks pretty awesome also. Thanks for the comment!
Great Breakdown and love the linked pack list. Side note, I have always been interested in DIY dehydrated meals. Would love to see how you make yours and what are your go to recipes.
Thanks! The pack list is always a work in progress. :) We will definitely be doing a recipe series on dehydrated meals. Susan has been making some killer, protein rich, veggie stuffed mac-n-cheese, and I'm pretty happy with a venison stroganoff.
I crawled hands and knees about a mile up and out of a canyon after breaking my ankle this past spring turkey season and the sawtooth pants had zero abrasions. My knees still had bruises, but grateful for durable knickers!
Dang. Based on the thumbnail and video quality I thought you would have had thousand of subs. I guess I’m here before you blow up in the hunting TH-cam rabbit hole.
Awesome! We'll check you out! We're just diving into producing and sharing more from our very diverse outdoor interests. It's a journey to publish on TH-cam for sure, but we're loving the feedback!
@@ElliottsOutsidePersonally I’m a fairly new hunter so I’m really interested in learning more about how to track animals and how to break them down and carry them out etc. as well as shooting tips. But not sure if that’s the direction you want to go with for the channel 🤷♂️
Adam here responding. @nickbeaumont, I am also a new hunter and love talking about my learning process and happy to share the skills that I've picked up so far. I do have some video ideas about how to get into hunting as a dad with limited time and finances. I'm certainly going to be doing some videos about teaching my kids to look for sign and pay attention to what food is available to different animals, cover opportunities for elk and deer etc. Keep checking back, there might be something there for you! (One quick shooting tip: buy and practice shooting with wiser precision quickstix. I'm not affiliated, just a big fan.)
Thanks, @ShavanoOutdoors. I haven't carried an animal out yet, but I have done some rucking with 80ish pounds and it carries great. Caveat: that was with load in the bag, not the shelf. I've taken the bag on and off to test the process and feel confident that it'll carry game bags well. I'm thinking about getting the 60l game bags from MR, but seems a bit pricey. I like the looks of the GoHunt bags but am happy enough with my mossy used last year on mule deer in northern WA.
@@ElliottsOutside Awesome! Thanks for the info! As for the game bags, I know Kuiu Gear has some nice ones as well. I’m not sure what the price is though.
Compliment accepted! Where are you hunting this fall? Also, I just wrote a blog for NRS about raising river rats, should be coming out soon on community.nrs.com/duct-tape/
Thank you for taking the time and energy to make this video. It’s very informative and thought driven. I needed this.
That is a great compliment. Thank you.
Randomly was suggested this by the algorithm, well worth my time. Keep up the great content!
We appreciate it! More to come!

Great video. I have the EE enigma in a 20 degree, it’s incredibly light and I have slept very warm down to 0 by wearing my puffy layers

Fun fact, Adam's wife was on a SOG triathlon team once upon a 20-yr old. He didn't know that when throwing in that SOG knife!
Love my X-Bolt, nice video.
Right on. Thanks!
Those are Sawbuck pants! I love mine!

Thanks! Indeed, you caught us at the beginning of this whole TH-cam journey!
Just found your channel- love it. Similar adventures to my channel but my channel is not as polished as your. Great video

Good, practical info.
Thanks, Jerry!

Nice Video! I have been considering getting the Metcalf for my Elk hunts. Have you hauled any meat with it before?

Thanks! We just started the channel and are having so much fun. Anything you'd like to see or questions you have about getting into the wilderness?
@@ElliottsOutside I like gear reviews and back pack hunting and just backpacking
Thanks again
Glad to see another rat that hunts in the fall (that's a compliment)! Keep it up man Ill subscribe!
