Morgan Pulls Out On Car - HUGE IMPACT!

- I was filming a Morgan 4/4 pull out of a junction, when this rather scary crash happened. The Morgan tried to accelerate to get in front of the Peugeot. However the Peugeot was going down hill, and the Morgan was trying to speed up a hill, so the momentum was on neither of their sides. The speed limit along this road is 50mph for anyone wondering. The police immediately turned up and dealt with the scene, and I passed on my details to both sides as I caught the incident, but there were no injuries luckily. This shook me up quite a bit, witnessing and filming something like this.

It would have started with "WHAT'S UP GUYS?! I'M HERE WITH AN EXCITING VIDEO AND YOU WON'T BELIEVE...YOUR EYES!" and then 5 minutes of something unrelated to it.

I don't get half the comments here. As soon as the Peugeot comes into view it's braking. Whoever is driving is braking n honking. People also saying the Peugeot driver could have taken the shoulder I think there was just not enough space to take a hard right n the shock of the moment probably impaired better judgment. Of course everyone is always smarter after the fact lol but really guys replay the vid before commenting. He's braking. It's a Peugeot not a Lamborghini with ventilated allround ceramic disc brakes. N at that speed a hit is guaranteed. It's just about minimizing the impact. The Morgan driver should be happy that the Peugeot didn't decapitate him in that drop top.
Ventilated ceramics dont grip until they're really warmed up
Exactly, being a 3 door hatchback they only have brake discs on the front with drums on the rear so at that speed slamming on the little brake discs were having to take about 80% of the weight/force as it leans forward taking Wight and traction off of the rear, if it had brake discs on the rear maybe it would have helped but there's also things like tyres to bear in mind, they probably don't have the best tyres on a little hatchback

Yeah the Morg shouldn't of pulled out, And the peug could of in theory avoided by taking the shoulder. But mistakes happen because we are Human.
He wasn't braking hard because his tires didn't lock up at all. He didn't screetch to a halt whatsoever. Even with ABS you always get some lockup on a panic brake. And with the rate of automotive insurance fraud in Europe and opulent appearance of a Morgan, I don't think it's that far fetched to say they maybe didn't do everything in their power to avoid the collision.
I fully agree about the lack of stopping power in the Peugeot, however it also looks like it was going pretty fast. The impact looks like it was at a fair speed, especially because the Morgan wasn't exactly crawling. Now to say it was already braking would then mean it had been going faster before than it was at impact.
Obviously I cannot tell the speed for certain, it is just we all know that no matter how good/bad your brakes are, speed is a huge factor in stopping time.
I feel the Morgan misjudged the speed of the Peugeot and pulled out with too small a gap, hoping they would pick up speed faster than they did. - Morgan at primary fault in my eyes but with speed possibly being a factor on the Peugeot.
Either way, it must have been horrible for them both.

If someone pulls out like that and leaves you no space to stop, what else can you reasonably be expected to do? I'd say the Morgan driver felt under pressure because of the large crowd watching and made a poor judgement call.

100% Morgan's fault. Impact was 2 seconds after he pulled in front of the other car. The Peugot was hard on the brakes as soon as he entered the frame, less than a second before impact and with the horn blaring. Road had come down to a single lane with the Peugot's only other options being risking a head on crash into a tree or oncoming traffic. The slowly accelerating Morgan was the far safer item to impact.
Are you going to ignore the fact that the hatchback was going way too fast for the road? When you speed you throw off other people's judgement because they don't expect you to be going that fast.

two lanes wide with plenty of space to pass on the right - plus there is a central reservation. The Peugeot driver just got fixated on the Morgan instead of the space around it.
No signs of hard braking, no tyre sound or visual signs of weight transfer.

No ABS, no tyre smoke, no huge dip in front suspension - suspect pug had intention of intimidating morgan for wreckless driving, only to discover poorly performing brakes in an emergency
This is a dual carriageway, check the UK highway code. The morgan knew the pug was coming as you can see he tried to scurry out the junction leaving some dirt and gravel flying, the pug would never had expected this to happen as, there is a central refuge. All those who think its so easy for the pug to have either braked or swerved round the morgan, are fools who think this could never happen to them. The pug doesnt have ABS, if he had tried to swerve round at the speed he was travelling at it would have been worse for him. Please remember you travel a long way, in your 'thinking' time before you do anything, swerve brake or otherwise. Brake lights were already on when the pug comes into view.

the braking distance at 50 mph is about 53 meters (wikipedia), which should be plenty if he started to break in time. idiot driver.
That was my thought, that the Eurobox doesn't have ABS. It also doesn't have a lot of mass so it's not a massive impact but still too bad for the beautiful Morgan.

Judging be the time the horn sounded and speed of the 206, i estimate it only travelled 30 meters before impact. Even if 53 is where it "should" stop, it didnt make it to that mark. And keep in mind with those stats, those are recorded with new brakes and new tires. Not every vehicle on the road had new tires and nee brakes.

definitely his fault, but, there was still no need for the crash. that car didn't squeal his tires from his brakes even in the slightest, and, there was plenty of room to swerve around him. it's a strange phenomenon, and mostly in Europe(Russia really), of drivers just crashing into things and never applying the brakes. they clearly see what's about to happen, but still just plow into something instead of taking evasive maneuvers. a horn is the last thing to be applying.

This car actually has a 1.8L Ford engine and the highest spec put out 125 horse powers so... Not exactly what I would call high performance. Top speed is only about 185kmh btw.

It's the responsibility of the driver merging into a lane to check for traffic and to judge distance.
This man didn't even stop to check for on coming traffic and if he did he severely misjudged the speed of the on coming traffic and/or acceleration of his own vehicle.
Furthermore there's not even a car behind the pug so there's no damn excuse for him to cut it off.
Also note the 50mph speed limit on the sign up ahead. If it's 50 up there then the road the Pug is on must be national speed limit, and it's a duel carriageway - aka 70mph. There's no way that Pug was stopping.

I always wondered how well a wood bodied Morgan held up in a crash. Regardless of fault, I think it faired well. It was a pretty hard hit.

When pulling out into traffic, you do not have right of way. The driver of the Morgan was clearly at fault.
The way people drive in UK you'd think that was no longer the case. The numbers of people who pull out in front of you on a roundabout for example. I think there are a lot folk who think right of way belongs to whoever gets to the particular patch of tarmac first.
@@mrradman2986 Well they would be wrong... the descirption of the road laws is printed in black and white and it is very concise. You should always give way to the right and your actions when joining traffic should not hinder speed or direction of that oncoming car.
Some people are able to use the brakes and the horn at the same time, it's called having an IQ above 25. Morgan Driver-Kunt. Peugeot was probably only doing 50 or less, that road was easily a 40 or 60mph being outside heavy residential or commercial developments. Most 206' unless a GTI180 (which that was not) are painfully slow and have less than stellar brakes as standard. The Morgan Driver clearly attempted to shoot out but then lacked any real speed destroying the 206 owners day and vehicle.

@Castle Bravo Angry at someone who said you should be a driving instructor? Maybe you shouldn't with that temper of yours. Also, controlling a sudden turn at that speed is easier said than done. The driver may have seen it as hard since the Morgan was for a split second occupying both lanes. I doubt the car would've suffered less if it went off the road, so thats out of the question. Swerving to the right is almost impossible because of that road sign. Where else is the pug supposed to go?

Morgan driver would need to be driving a Dodge Demon and accelerate to 60mph in 2.3 seconds in order to pull safely away from that Pug entering that closely in front of him. Could you not tell the Pug veered to the left, but was cutoff further by the Morgan? What I saw was the Morgan cutting in, the Pug trying to dodge left, and signal with the horn his intention to pass on the left, assuming that the driver in the Morgan would use common sense, and pull right to keep from taking the entirety of the lane and shoulder.
Instead the Morgan drifted all the way across the lane and onto the shoulder, and the only dodge for the Pug at that point would have created a "high-side" to his momentum and flipped his car.
That is my view of the events, and I put myself in the Pug's driver's position from the onset of the video. That was possibly what I would have done, had I felt I couldn't stop in time, or that braking would have created a more dangerous condition(though I'm not claiming that's the case with braking, just what I'd do if braking wasn't a good option).
Very tough to keep from jamming on that pedal, but older drivers still don't trust ABS to keep them from skidding...I know I still pump them when in a situation, and I'm only 46.
On third look, there really wasn't a left to go to...

If the hill crest is blind the pug should have been more careful coming over it then. And 200m is plenty of time to brake. So which is it? But the Mog was still technically at fault. It is possible that the pug should have braked sooner but we can’t be sure because we can’t see the whole scene showing the approach.

Morgan driver was very reckless, either didn't see the Peugeot or thought he could put his foot down and chance it, totally miscalculating the speed.
The Peugeot driver looked like he was over 50mph but had few escape options especially as the chevron covered lane to the right was obscured by that silly island with the arrow sign on it, what the hell is that doing there? Looks like it used to be a dual carriage way but changed to single?

At the spot where the accident occured it looks like the point where a single carriage way becomes dual! If it's the road I'm thinking of in Derbyshire (looks very familiar!) Then the chevrons have been added it used to be 2 lanes on each side.
It's a very dangerous place to be turning right, you have to be so sure the other side is clear before you fly across, looks like there is a refuge half way across? I'm not actually sure you can even turn right there?
If the Morgan driver had been more experienced he would have had an eye on his rear view mirror, seen the impending collision and darted over the chevrons to his right to avoid!
The Peugoet driver may well have been distracted by the cars coming out of the junction to his right, looks like a car show exit. His escape options were limited, the verge to his left looks too narrow and hazardous, could have easily turned over his car.
The visibilty on that junction is such that the Morgan driver should have clearly seen the Pewjot coming, (it's the rubbish tip turning not far from me) so there's no excuse.

Works the other way around. The Peugeot driver could have seen the Morgan pulling out early enough to swerve if he travels at a reasonable speed and is not mentally challenged. Unfortunetely I see both drivers at fault 50/50. Morgan should check better / not pull out. Peugeot driver could have avoided that as well.
I genuinely think the Peugot driver is a bad/unexperienced driver and that's one of many reasons that I think people should have real driving safety trainings mandotory for getting your license. Many accidents like this could be avoided.

I don't know who would think it's not the Morgan fault, it clearly is, in any driving test, car, trailer license etc, you are always told that if you pull out and cause another vehicle to either slow down or have to serve to miss you then it is a instant failure of your test. And that's exactly what happened, there was not enough room and it shows by the way the Morgan driver tries to floor it to try and distance himself

Even after making the terrible mistake of pulling out he could have saved himself at the very last moment by taking the far right lane, the one with diagonal lines. It might have given the Peugeot a chance to go around him.
It’s not that easy to dodge an accident, he had at least 2-3 seconds to react to the Morgan going let’s say 60-70mph looks like a dual carriageway. Your reactions have to be f1 style to avoid that

Too all the people blaming the driver that hit the Morgan, the driver of the Morgan short cut thru that turn and you could hear him try to accelerate. He knew that other car was gonna be too close, but chose to try and make it anyways.

the morgan is a fuck of a lot nicer looking than that heap that hit it.
There used to be overtaking lanes in both directions. The irony is, had the overtaking lane not been blocked up with the signage and cross hatchings, with the intention of preventing accidents at the junction, the Peugeot driver could have gone smoothly around the Morgan and there would have been no problem.
Many junctions on faster roads have overtaking lanes just after them so drivers can maintain speed and overtake anything that's pulled out ahead of them. It prevents this kind of accident and also means those looking to pull out don't need a gap large enough to build up speed without impeding approaching traffic. They're effectively going across traffic rather than remaining in its path.
