One of the best Masterclasses in my opinion! FP's not trying to oversell himself, and his simple approach to mixing just makes him so much more humble hahas :D
In 3 years of trying to make music and watching countless tutorial videos this one summed everything up pretty damn well and then some. I could have watched this and saved three years of watching tutorial videos. This is why Flux has been my favorite artist since age 12 and why he has influenced me so much.

love this...I like the fact that there are still unnamed tracks on the project like 'audio 1' or whatever and he hasn't tried to hide it for the interview...and he doesn't hide the fact that he has used standard drum presets because they just WORKED for the overall sound he was aiming for and all they needed was a little compression and transient shaping.... its a REAL project like what would be on a 'normal' hard working bedroom producers screen... very cool, humble guy who makes great music....and i agree with other comments about how he doesn't oversell himself and he just lays it out for a change... Wow, just realised the way he talks about his music is the same way I might talk about a piece of writing or a piece of graphic design work. Eg "I tend to increase my white point to give it that crisp edge, but here I actually used a gradient layer mask to keep it subtle."

Any idea what pitch shifting plug in he uses? I have Logic's and Waves pitch shifters but sometime they can do a really horrible job of transposing. The resulting audio can sound really crappy...
why whenever I see professional producers in any DAW, the sequencer is always full of audio files and not the original midi input? do they bounce all the midi parts they use and then re-import as audio? or bounce multiple channels/parts and then re-import as audio on to one channel? what's the point? should I be doing this? :)
You can do a lot more with audio clips, and midi keeps you 'stuck' with just midi. If you bounce the midi to audio, you can see the waveform, chop the audio, reverse, pitch up/down, etc. Also, it makes you make decisions. Don't worry if XYZ is perfect. Bounce it to audio. Tweak it. Bounce it again. There's no rules, and the more you tweak and bounce audio, the more original your sound gets. You should definitely be doing this :)
I love VR but he is not ahead of FP when it comes to making toons. Def with synthesis and technicality, but as far as songs and structure and arrangement, hell no. He's getting up there though
it's possible and you can get away with it, just as long as you clean up the mud the reverb brings in. The universal way to do this (in any daw that is) is to do a new project with a full wet reverb on the master, hpf the low end 200+ hz (or however sounds best). Bring a dry (pre compression/not fully mastered) version of the master in another track and bring up the reverbed track underneath it. EQ reverb to fit it best and there you have it.

Flux you say to put a limiter on... but when i put my limiter on it makes it so you can't even hear the drums... plus when i put songs on my DAW say like a diplo song it was in the red... plus i was also told that Ableton allows the users to go into the read without clipping
If you put a limiter on and you can't hear the drums, your mix isn't right. I'm not judging- I struggle with the same thing. Don't be afraid to get a mix, limit it, then fix the mix into the limiter a bit. Limiting changes things. Also, if you slap a 44.1khz mp3 into a 48khz or above DAW session, it's going to clip because of the difference in bitrate, not because it's pushing past 0db on the master :)
