Procedure For Adding A Transponder Key:
1. Insert an existing programmed working chip key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn ignition to the ON position for 5 seconds, then back to OFF position.
3. Remove the existing key and within 5 seconds insert new key and turn it to the ON position for 5 seconds.
4. Turn key OFF, the key is now programmed. Start Car to test key.
Worked great, did it in the parking lot of the locksmith that told me I couldn't and wanted to charge me 70 to program the key I had him cut that I bought off Amazon. He was nice about it, but told me it wouldn't work and I did it right in front of him lol. Only charged me 2 dollars to cut the key. Thanks for the awesome and concise video!

I had the same thing just happen at a chevy dealership. I ordered cheaper keys off Amazon and just wanted them cut and he was acting like it wasn't going to work.
I don't know why, but he ended up not even charging me for cutting them lol.
I forgot how to program them if I just want to add one which lead me here 😆.
Programmed my first lost key will in -10 degree wisconsin weather...so glad the seat heaters and the radio worked during the process 😆.
With the rise of youtube, they are losing business because they are no longer the keepers of the magic info.
I'm sure plenty of people rather pay to have someone else do it...if you have money like that, that's great.
I rather spend that money on a pedicure 😆.

I did it, the new key program lasted about 10 seconds, wouil not start after that. I cranked it right up after programing & it set a code on the dash about THEFT Deterant?
I did exactly as instructed. WORKED PERFECTLY! I had gone to a local locksmith and they were going to charge me $150 for a new remote and programmed key. I bought both online for about $15, went to ACE hdwr and had the key cut, came home and programmed the key as directed. THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!

What is the process for programming the key fob for these trucks?
2012 Avalanche worked great. 2 key blanks $11 on Amazon, no charge key cut by a kid at local hardware store, program procedure described worked like a charm. Saved $$$. Thank you!

I got a 2010 chevy impala and locksmith said $65 - went to home depot, they said they don't cut outside keys and wanted ke to purchased theirs for $40 I said nah and went to arch auto parts here in queens nyc and they charged me $10 to cut and I bought the key for $7 and your video helped me.

Worked for me, my only one original key was just hanging by a thread with bad hairline fracture. Bought new programmable keys via Amazon, used my own key cutting machine to carefully make a copy and followed your video. DoneZo!! 😅 thanks partner 👍🏽

Worked on my wife's 2016 Cruze Limited. Her buttons had worn out and the unlock button broke off completely and was just a hole you had to use another key to push the button. Bought a $10 fob on Amazon, took out her existing cut "shank," took off the blank shank from the new fob and added hers to it, put the little pin back in, new battery and went outside and tried this and it worked. Doors unlock/lock, car starts, trunk opened. Thanks!

Omgosh thank you so much i lost my truck keys the week my Daddy died .....we had to go to the dealership to get a new key they charged me 148 dollars for the key and labor.......i had no clue I could program it at home... until I watched one of your other videos....wellll . wouldn't you know that 2 days after the new key was made....the old key was found ...in a place where no key should have been...i think my 18 month old nephew put it down in an old shoe in the laundry room 😂😂😂😂 anyways....I didn't know that after getting a new programmed key the old one wouldn't work...well thanks to this video I used the procedure you just showed us .. and now i have a spare working key this is a blessing because I thought id have to go get robbed again by the dealership 😂😂😂😂 I and im sure so many others, truly appreciate you having this channel.... thank you once again for helping me out

I did this a couple years ago and it worked great. But I lost my spare, so I bought/cut two new keys to try it again, and I can’t seem to get them to work? I put my programmed key in for 5 seconds, but when I try to put the new key in, it won’t turn at all now? I tried both of the new keys and neither one will turn in the ignition. Can you please help?

Procedure worked for the first key I had cut, but I learned a lesson in the process. The guy at the hardware store had me test my first key he cut. Before I did I asked for my original and I did the programing procedure before inserting the spare. Programmed successful. Simple enough. Went back in and he finished up the second key. I payed, but then I put both keys in my hand and then didn't know which one was the programmed key. Whoops. Guy in the store said "simple enough, one will work, one won't". Sounds reasonable. So I started the truck with one of the spares and I could tell it was a little rough on insertion but to be sure I turned the key all the way and it actually started but the security light kept flashing and I immediately turned it off. I think at this point it's too late. I tried the programing procedure a few times but the second spare can't be made to work.
So, won't make that mistake again.
Here's what I think happens. I believe you can start the vehicle once with a blank unprogrammed key but I doubt it'll stay running long. What then happens is one of two things; the key actually has a programmable chip and it zaps it in such it can never be used again (seems overkill), or the keys aren't programmed at all but all have unique random ID codes programmed in and the vehicle will reject said key code and learning it won't be an option. Now if Locksmiths are actually able to 'program' the key without access to the vehicle then the former is true, but I have no experience with that. I'm just going to order another key

I bought two keys from Amazon, and had the cut at the same time. The first one worked just like you said. It works great. The second one just says anti theft deterrent. I have tried to reprogram it several times, but I can't get the second key to work.
it sounds like there may just be an issue with the second key

was considering killing my vats and just running a cut key but rather keep it given ive got the L9H 376ci (the good 6200 haha) and thats a pretty sought after engine for the thieves.

I can yes - as long as there are not already too many keys programmed to the vehicle. Depending on the year and model you can usually have a maximum of 4-8 keys programmed at one time. If there are already too many keys programmed you will need to use the procedure that erases all existing keys. It worked on my 2013 2500hd with a circle cross GM key and an Amazon key. Some GM keys have a circle with a cross in the middle, some don't. Make sure you get the right replacement key or it won't work.
