    Update: 4/26/22: I went to the John Deere dealership this morning to bring my gator in for service and spoke with a salesman whom I’d thought had retired (he’s 70 and was a friend of my oldest brother). He told me they’d misquoted me on the x590 to the tune of about $4,000 as they’d said the deck was shipped separately and needed to be ordered as it wasn’t included with the tractor. So, in reality, the 590 with 48” deck is really only slightly over $2000 more than the Cub Cadet. I should have just gone to the dealership rather than get a quote over the phone. Even when I’d questioned them through email about the price and sent them the quote from Deere.com, they were still telling me the deck was extra. Lesson being, always go in person even though email is much easier (in theory).

    I have the same tractor,bought new at R.S. Osgood's in E. Dixfield Me.ordered it with the 3 stage 42 in. snothrower. Locking diff. and power steering help make cleaning the yard alot easier and quicker not to mention how comfortable the seat is. I am very happy with this tractor and given proper care, I'm confident that it will last many years. Since you take care of your equipment as well yours should last a very long time also. Good choice and great review.

    In most cases at a tractor dealer like John Deer and even Kubota, mower decks are sold separately because of the variety of deck widths available. So you pick the tractor then choose your implements from belly mower decks to rear and front of tractor. Have a Blessed Day

    Tom, thats a gorgeous machine you have there! It should last you at least 35 years before something like a motor rebuild is required. Those commands are super reliable. The Hydro gear bdu10L-225 is stronger than the k72 by kanzaki. Heavier frame than the competition. Better designed. Good choice! I hope it serves you well.

      Funny you mention that. All the cub dealers around me (Kansas City) are out of stock.
      AE outdoor power in Urbandale (Outside Des Moines, I could drive there) has XT3 GS on sale for $4,499 (with 42" deck $5,300) They have an XT-1 GT50 (old style) with a K-58 for $3,299. And they have a XT-2 GS50 (new style) with a K58 for $4099. I called MTD in Cleveland. They gave me a case # and told me to call back after Memorial Day. They said they might be able to do a direct sale. Could you lend me any advice? Or should I just drive to Des Moines and buy the old style tractor for $3299 right now? To me, it seems to be the most tractor for the $.

    • @LedgemereHeritageFarm
      @LedgemereHeritageFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@raymond3803 what are your intentions with it? Mowing only or snow removal and yard work? The k58 is a yard tractor transmission and very capable of snow removal. The advantage of the gs xt3 is that it’s shaft driven with a fully serviceable transmission and designed for heavy duty use. I prefer the narrower decks. I think they mow better and are easy to maneuver. It mostly depends upon your yard layout

    • @raymond3803
      @raymond3803 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LedgemereHeritageFarm Thanks for responding. I have a smallish suburban lawn in Kansas City. I bought the house new in 2000. My yard came in on a truck. They laid sod. First heavy rain, 2/3 of my back yard ended up 2 doors down. So...I hired a guy with a dozer and built an 8 ft deep pond in my back yard (with fish). I did a hydrologic design with a 6" pipe primary spillway and a flat rock (on one end of dam) secondary spillway. I also ran a 1" pvc pipe through the bottom with shut off valve I can access from natural ground with a 6' long T handle tool. I also directed all my house gutter downspouts underground with corrugated field drain tile that outlets into pond. System with spillways works perfectly. Behind the dam I installed an electric water pump attached to the 1" pvc pipe housed in a plastic dog house. Pump runs a 30 head automatic pop-up sprinkler system utilizing free natural rain water. Rather than expensive city water treated with fluoride requiring expensive back-flow preventers and annual inspections. My yard was featured on the front page of the Sunday Kansas City Star newspaper (May 2004) and I was nominated as a *_Home Grown Hero_* and asked to give a presentation about it @ The Down Town Marriot hotel for an Urban Conservation Seminar. (yes, I wore a sport coat)
      My issue is mowing the pond dam (going up) on a 3 to 1 slope. Going down is not an option because of a property line fence. Diabetes just cost me my big toe (amputated 1/22) It's not healing right and I can no-longer get out there to weed eat the pond dam. I currently have a JD D130 box store tractor with a TL-200 transmission. Concerning the pond dam ....it won't do it. And I don't want to ruin it. The JD X-380 for $4,999 is the cheapest K-58 they offer. Or ...... I can drive 800 miles to a place (I'm not going to say where) that still has a new Husqvarna TS348XD (discontinued model) with a Kawasaki engine, 48 inch deck, and a locking K66 rear end for $3,999. My local cub dealer plans on getting a new XT2 GX54 D soon with a locking K62 for $4,399 (I like the looks of it. and it has good reviews). Like you, I prefer a stamped 2 blade 42" deck. They are quitter and just do a better job.
      I'd appreciate your suggestion.

      @@raymond3803 I’m very sorry to hear about the diabetes…my sister in law just had hers amputated as well. 😞 regarding the steep incline, my back yard has a (no kidding) 45-degree slope that my xt3 will drive down over (with a trailer load of fencing) without skidding an inch (I haven’t yet tried it without differential lock on). My jd x530 will as well (usually), but the lock doesn’t stay on like the cc

    Very sharp looking rig! I bought my Simplicity Broodmore a couple of years ago for the beefiness of the frame. It’s not your standard stamped sheet metal BUT, I do really like the design and features of this machine. Lots of power under that hood! I’ve never been a proponent of the “deck wash”. I still take it off at blow it out. No small feat at 62 years! 😖
    I was told a long time ago to not wash the deck because regardless of how dry it looks…it still holds moisture and the decks rust at the spindles. So…I try to clean dry with compressed are and stiff brush.
    Oh, the rooster….you gotta have a rooster…call it “curb appeal”!!😁👍🏻

      If I couldn’t get this Cub, I was going to the Simplicity dealer. They build a very good tractor. They used to build lawn and garden tractors for Allis Chalmers and Ford I think. Very good quality. The deck on my Deere is 54” with a power flow. It’s extremely heavy and cumbersome

    • @keithrayeski3147
      @keithrayeski3147 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LedgemereHeritageFarm extremely rugged machine, but I do dislike the tires. Turf tires are troublesome…issues with traction on even dry ground of any grade. And I had issues immediately with the electric height adjustment on the deck that led to three 45 minute trips to the dealer. One thing they failed to do is provide any instruction when I purchased it. Little did I know that before engaging the mower blades, the machine much be in high speed. If in low speed, the belt slaps and twists damaging the belt, which is much too expensive. And finally, the solenoid connections are hypersensitive to moisture. Even the slightest moisture will prevent starting until I disconnect it, use a towel and small wire brush to touch up the connections and reassemble. Disappointing. That aside, it’s a good machine, but I think if left to do over again, I’d have gone with a less expensive machine. 3,400 should not have brought those issues. But it’s also proof that your dealership, is critical!!
