Ledgemere Heritage Farm
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 30 ธ.ค. 2020
Our farm, nestled in the rolling hills of southern Maine, was established in 1840. We are only the 6th family to live here. Much like the original settlers, we raise a diverse menagerie of livestock, heat our home with wood cut from our land, and store fruits and vegetables from our gardens. We believe in small family farms providing communities with sustainable, humanely-raised meats, eggs and produce.
This TH-cam channel is meant to portray life on a small family farm, share the lessons we have learned so far, and be a part of the community of amazing farm creators that are working to bring people back to the land.
We hope you enjoy our videos. Message us with questions and suggestions!

Hello Tom nice to see in the 80s John Deere had a 2 year or 1500 hr warranty and the farmers could work on them Guess we can even call the 1980s now the good old days 🇺🇸 Great video thank you .Hope you are keeping up with the cold and snow on the Farm 🇺🇸❤️
XWell Tom this video brings back memories of high school one neighbor had just bought a brand new John Deere and I was hauling silage wagons for a 17-year-old driving a brand new John Deere thanks for the memories 🇺🇸🏆p s. Even thou i had Red in my veins at age 2 with my Dad's Farmall A
Good stuff Tom. Was those smaller horsepower tractors still made in house by deere?
Dubuque IA and mannheim GE
Good looking tractors Tom! I think you need the 2240 in four wheel drive with front end loader. Would suit you well! Thank you as always for sharing!
i would love one. i know a guy with a 2440 that he bought new. i remember his getting it
Thanks
thank you for watching
Ty
thank you for watching
1971, I was in the eighth grade. I don't know how many times I read that catalog cover to cover and deliberated over which boxcar or accessory I was going to buy through the mail order from Glen's Train Shop in Akron, Ohio. It don't seem like 54 years ago, does it?
i wonder how many of us literally wore those catalogs out from dreaming over them? no, it doesn’t feel like it was that long ago and thank you for watching .
Good looking equipment…..I am very thankful for you Tom and for wanting to share with us.
thank you for watching
Thank you Tom! I am still enjoying “Tommy’s Trains”!
i’ve got more.
@ I know, and looking forward to seeing them!
I have 3 of those Illinois Central GP-9's one of them I made into a GP-7 and added an electronic horn. Thank You for sharing this video and as always Happy Railroading.
that is really cool. i’d like to see that. thank you for sharing
Those were good days. I wish I had gotten one of those Lake Shore Limited sets and one of those Frisco U36B's and.... well, you get the picture. Thanks for sharing.
thank you for watching
👍👍
This was my father's train set from when I was very little. I spent years hunting this set down. I found it NEW in the original box from Trainz! I really enjoyed the video.
trainz are excellent to deal with, great customer service. this set was brand new also and i scoffed it up as soon as i saw it. thank you for watching
Thank you Tom!
i have a few more. i wish i had all of the 1970s catalogs, but im missing a few.
I'm a total newbie to model trains, but I'm considering buying this train set. I know these trains don't have sound, but if I were to buy a DCC loco with sound, would it function with this set, for instance, would I be able to hear the sound effects?
absolutely. great question and thank you for watching. it’s a good set, just be very gentle with the locomotives.
I have this same exact tractor but with a Kohler motor and a 50 in. deck.. The electric clutch had to be replaced, the coils, and a spring on the deck. All under 200 hours. They were covered, but it had to go in the shop 3 times, each taking over a week. And it is loud. At this point, I wish I never bought it.
i feel the same way now also. i’m considering trading it in and resale on them is pathetic. i’m sorry you’ve had so many problems. thank you for watching
Marx guy here, grain merchants know little about marketing toys. Proven by General Mills with Lionel and Quaker Oats with Marx Trains.
you are absolutely right. thank you for watching
Lionels sound of steam, Lionel has figured out how a baby rattler works
haha. yes it sounds just like that I agree
May have been the MPC era, but to us kids, we still loved them. First thing I saw was my Yardmaster set! Thank you Tom! Still enjoying the train videos!
it’s what we had and it was good for the time. i don’t hate them now really. they’re kind of like the 1974-1978 mustangs in that if it hadn’t been for them, you wouldn’t have the new stuff probably. thanks for watching
@ great way to look at it Tom. It’s like the starter sets from Tyco for HO scale during the same period. In reality, they were cheap, but it got us interested in trains. And they did have a lot of fun operating accessories too!
That looks nice
thank you
Thank you for this video. I’m going to be purchasing one in February. My question is I’m a retired farmer my pastures get overgrown and I would like to clip them . A bush hog takes me about 3 weeks of mowing hence this mower I would believe would be quicker. Once say the 3 foot tall grass lays down, does it decay pretty quickly? Or does it just smother any new growth trying to come up. Again thank you .
it doesn’t decay very fast, no. there’s a couple of fields i mow for a neighbor every year and i use this mower and the grass grows back again very well. thank you for watching
I must also note 3 things: the pilot ie: steamchest is plastic, the motor is not a can motor but an Lionel MPC Pullmor motor, and the better steamers for instance the 2-4-2 and 4-4-2 steamers all came with the rubber traction tires whether they had diecast boiler shells or plastic ones. I hope that this helps to clarify some things and as always Happy Railroading!!! Sincerely, MPC Matt.
thank you! there’s a lot for me to learn and i appreciate your knowledge
Very happy to help you out Tom and Thanks again for sharing this video. MPC Matt.
Enjoyed the video. I have a 1020 that I restored. I also enjoyed seeing the attachments that were available.
my brother in law had an industrial version, the 300. pretty much the same tractor other than a bigger hydraulic pump and baby front axle. we use it all the time for baking hay. thank you for watxhing
Thanks Tommy👍👍🙏
Awesome Overview of the set.👍👍👍
thank you for watching
Very interesting! Good looking tractors too. I enjoy looking back at stuff from 40, 50 or more years ago. Thanks for sharing Tom!
i miss going to the dealerships with Dad or my sister. a lot of times, they’d tell her what to get and she would take me along. i was easy to find, i’d be in the toy aisle🙂
I did that too Tom at the IH dealership. Loved those brochures.
our local dealer sold out when i was around 8 or 9. i had a bunch of ih brochures i sold last year. the original Cub and H/M brochures Dad got in 1947 brought in a nice little payday. Dad bought the Cub and Gramps bought the H. i have pictures of them both. you have seen my collection of IH i think? it’s all up in my Tractors playlist on youtube. i got a 1949 8N from a friend that i should be able to get as soon as the snow melts. i think that will make some good videos because they sold a pile of them to dairy farmers up here. i hope you are well .
@@tommys_trucks_trains_tractors Doing well sir.
I have that same Jersey Central steam engine and tender. I also have a spare tender, these engines are very good pullers with their small but powerful MPC motors. Thank You for sharing this and as always Happy Railroading!!!
thank you for sharing and watching! it appears that MPC used a lot of the same equipment in different sets?
Yes they did but the good thing about that is that there is more of these engines and cars available to run and collect. Again Happy Railroading and Thank You for sharing this!!! I love the MPC era it is my favorite era of Lionel production!! MPC Matt.
Tom, I have never seen this set….but it is really nice! Really enjoyed this video, and will look for this set. Thank you as always for sharing!
i honestly had no idea how many different sets General Mills put out, but it looks like a ton of them. a lot of the rolling stock didn’t vary much from set to set, but the motive power and some accessories did. thank you for watching
I had a Black River Freight set. Got it for Christmas, I was 2d or 3d grade I think. I thought the steam loco meant 1800's cowboys and indians. I think a brother or sister got married and took it for their kids late 80's or early 90's. I didn't care, I never liked it much. I never saw or heard of the Johnny Cash ads til about 6 months ago, I wonder if that influenced my Dad to get it for me. I found one on ebay and got it out of nostalgia sake and it was pretty much brand new! I couldn't believe it! All the plastic accessories still in bags, the cardboard buildings were still flat, unfolded. Box was worn but ran great. But I like the 60's and 70's diesel era. And to the point I love the MPC stuff, those red boxes with the white logo, those multicolored boxes with all the photos. Greatness. Just a train... not a space shuttle. Transformer plugs into the wall, the tubular track, no need for a computer, smart phone, remote. Work on it yourself. I love it. Old skool - best skool.
i’m not a big fan of all the gadgetry myself. i got some used tmcc stuff for christmas . i’m experimenting with it, but some of it is a head scratcher. it’s 30 years old, nowhere near cutting edge, but it’s kind of neat. i’m looking forward to playing trains with grand kids. thank you for watching
I have several TMCC and Legacy locomotives, but I run them conventionally. They do well that way.
1967 my grandfather bought 2 4020 powershifts to farm with and he had to have powershift so his kids could disc. On their 4010 the boys couldnt reach the clutch and with power shift they didnt need to be able to reach clutch
we still have one 4020 power shift and a 4320 on the mixer mill. they sold the non power shift 4020 a few years ago. most of the work done now is with much newer equipment, but those two remain. thank you for watchinh
Update, the silioind went out, it was pretty when i bought it, Led lights run fast, cut good, turn good, but no quality at all, no more Cubcadet for me , i wasted my money
i’m sorry that happened. i will personally never buy another one. i’m told the electric lift is very expensive to repair
Do you sell any of your trains?
i do around Christmas time, yes. i collect what i want during the year and then sort out everything i don’t want or need and put it all on ebay after Thanksgiving. i just shipped out the last two packages of the season on Tuesday. Thank You for watching
Both cars are really neat cars. Again, any Lionel operating accessory is cool. Yea, some are not realistic but who cares. We are interested in enjoyment and they do their job well. Thank you Tom as always for sharing!
that’s what i think too. i have enough realism in the day without worrying about the trains as well. thank you for watching
I'm an american flyer guy but i do enjoy your content
thank you.
Next time no loud bells, so hard to hear you! Great info. We're considering 5 K/D X pregnant ewes for sale nearby, so I found your video. Great news about meat flavor! That happened to me one time when I was eating lamb leftovers the next day and forgot I had cooked the Walmart marinated lamb I bought. It tasted like beef, so good, then I remembered I had cooked the lamb the day before.
i’m still raising dorper/katahdin x and have just started lambing season a couple of days ago. thank you for watching
Had my eye on this set for a while, I'm thinking I see it in my near future now after this video
i kept it and use it pretty regularly though i sold all of my ez track and bought kato
@tommys_trucks_trains_tractors I was tempted to do the same when I switched over to Unitrack as well, but am too paranoid about thinking up the perfect use for it the second I do lol
I have a 2016 xuv 560. Mine shifts fine until the weather gets cold then it's stuck in whatever gear I parked it in. As you described, I have no problem at all with the 4wd shifter, but once it gets cold it's not going to shift until the weather warms back up. An friend of mine had a 550 and he actually broke the shifter lever off when it was cold trying to change gears and I took a piece of 5/16" round stock and made him a new lever for it. But I don't understand, if a person pays thousands of dollars for a machine like this it should function better. This is a flaw on John Deere's part.
that’s a great way to fix it! there is an updated cable, but they won’t replace it for nothing and that’s not very good customer service. the district manager called me and he could not have been any ruder or more condescending. thank you for watching
Give me a good Lionel train every time. I will take Lionel over any other brand or scale. I say this even though I do have some Williams, Atlas and MTH. They are OK, but I still love my Lionels. I think 027 is a little under appreciated. It allows you to set a nice layout in a smaller space. Thanks for sharing.
i definitely like that you can cram a lot in with o-27. i haven’t branched out to anything other than lionel except for a car or two or a bachmann building here and there. thank you for watching
Tom, I have never heard of this car, you got one over on me lol! I didn’t know what the video was really about when it started, and I thought something was really wrong. Shows how realistic it was! Thanks Tom for sharing and for the laugh!
that is funny. it’s a good car that my kids enjoyed and you can turn it off so you can keep using it because the screeching gets old quickly. thank you for watching
MTH also made 2 different John Deere sets you might want to look at getting
i was just now looking at the 4-6-0 set. thank you for watching
Can u run more than i loco at a time using that controller?
yes
@@tommys_trucks_trains_tractors do u know if there is a maximum number of locos? Ty!
THANK-YOU !!!! This is exactly what I have been looking for all over youtube. Question is ….. what is the blue box in the bottom right corner of the screen ? Is that an additional power pack just for the automatic signal ?
that’s the signal power supply, yes.
LOVE watching/listening about Limerick's history, as I spent my formative years on a 90-acre farm off Rt 160 on the Cornish line. One of my best friends was a Provencher (Paul), as the two prominent families in Limerick at the time (mid-to-late 70s) were the Provencher and the Carroll families. Absolutely loved Limerick, and one of the worst days in my life was the family having to abruptly move away from Limerick to Boston for economic reasons. Good stuff, and thanks for the in-depth historical accounts of the town.
Paul is my uncle, Mom’s brother. Dad drove a bus and was the custodian of the Limerick school. thank you for watching.
@@tommys_trucks_trains_tractors Paul P. as in used to live at the top of Washington St when he was a teen? If so, same Paul I knew. Last I heard he had moved to Jax, Florida area with his adopted brother (redhead, forget his name). Paul and I were tight.
I like your laid back, matter of fact delivery I also like your attitude; these are trains - you can buy stupid crazy fancy, but toy trains don't really need to cost $4000 for a set, or worse for a single locomotive
i believe trains are supposed to be fun and to me, they are the most fun played with children. i wanted my kids to use them, gently of course, but stuff happens and i’d rather they dropped a $12 car or whatever than be worried about them touching and breaking it. thank you for watching
Another great set Tom! And I agree about the 4-4-2 locomotive. Extremely durable, and such wonderful memories from childhood! Those locomotives were virtually indestructible lol! But, I have never liked crew talk when installed in steam locomotives. During the days of steam the engineers would receive train orders at different stations…they could not talk with the tower because radio communication didn’t exist. Yet, every steam locomotive made today has someone talking to the tower. But if that is what sells….lol. Thank you for sharing Tom!
thank you for watching. i’ve got some MPC stuff to dig out next
Since it's not a steamer, dont buy! 😲
lol
I have owned a Mahindra 2816 for about 8 years. No mechanical issues, although I had to replace a couple of hydraulic hoses after dropping a log on the hood. Easy repair and was able to beat the dent out of the metal hood. I bought a Mahindra 6075 this week as it is a bigger and more powerful tractor that I need. I didn't consider JD because of the EGR and DPF. Plus they are proprietary in repairs, and the JD compact tractor and engine are not manufactured in the United States.
the 2816 is a mitsubishi and i have never run into problems with mitsubishis.
I agree, Mitsubishi makes a good diesel engine.
My main problem with John Deere is their refusal to work with independent shops or provide owners with the resources to fix and maintain the equipment. You are basically forced to go through John Deere for any kind of repair work or even diagnose the problem.
last i checked, JD agreed to allow customers and third party shops access to schematics and diagnostic software. there are some things i wouldn’t even attempt to repair myself, but it should be my choice, yes. i think it’s BS that the CEO for JD makes $26M/year while still laying off 12k employees. everything is a mess
They definitely dropped the ball. Their main market must be entry level toys to give the flavor of the hobby, but at times it leaves more to be desired. They been running the same overland limited set with the steamer but yet keep putting post steam era 50’ plug door box cars and covered hoppers. Replace those 4 cars with 40’ boxcars. And replace the log car and cattle car with a 2 gondolas. Period accurate road names and scheme and tell have a higher quality starter set. Also maybe do away with the steel Track? Does that really dive up the cost much more to consolidate the ez track line? Bachmann has a lot more potential and capabilities to put out reasonable models than they currently do.
i agree 100%! i was just commenting in my newest video about how Lionel still makes train sets with diesels, but uses steam-era cars with full ladders and catwalks. i don’t like 50’ cars on a small layout and have sold all of my n-scale 50’ cars. thank you for watching
@@tommys_trucks_trains_tractors I don’t understand why the manufacturers do that? It’s not like they don’t have correct era cars to go with the set locomotive. I have the Bachman harvest set. I liked it because it was accurate in terms of 3 covered hoppers and GP40. Frankly If they re issue that set it should be with NS rail, and 4 hoppers with metal wheels and one with a Fred it would have been a better deal in my opinion. They are the foundation for many into this hobby.
