I bought my Mustang 50 to replace my "almost: th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend worn out John Deere L120 (48" Cut - 20 HP Briggs). First off - I can now mow my almost 3 acres in about 1/2 the time it took with my other mower... I have had the Mustang 50 for almost 2 years now... Maintenance is easy - the Kohler Motor is "out in the open" and everything, except for the oil filter, is VERY easy to get to... To change the oil filter I have learned to fold the seat forward - no problem now... The deck is SUPER easy to drop... Rememb..

I would never buy another Husqvarna again. I bought a Z248F last year and had just under 50 hours on it as of July this year. While mowing the lawn, I heard a weird noise and then what sounded like a metal on metal grinding. That was when I found out Husqvarna knowingly sent out mowing decks with bad welds on them. The entire right side of my mowing deck cracked in half and sent the blade guard through the blades. It is now almost September, the Husqvarna dealer has had my mower since July 5th and do not know when they will be able to complete the warranty work, because Husqvarna has prioritized new mower sales over warranty fixes and will not send a new mowing deck. A mower is only as good as the company that stands behind them and Husqvarna does not stand behind their mowers.

Change that transmission oil. They say it'l s a sealed transmission but it's not. Change it every three years. it's not hard. There's instructions on youtube. I learned the hard way. I've had a RZ 2454 since 2008. 24 hp kohler has been great. The body is a little flimsy but that's not bad because it makes it lighter if you get stuck or want to work on it. Heavier duty ones are, heavier of course. If it's not too heavy you can man handle them better such as flipping the deck or getting stuck in a ditch. I replace both transaxles because I didn't change the trans nission fluid or 15-150 weight oil. Change that transmisson oil.

My grand father has had his gravely for 15 years. It’s commercial not residential and it has been under water for 4 days when it flooded, and still runs to this day. When buying a mower for your home. Without a doubt by a commercial they last twice as long and are worth the money. Never buy a stamp deck an ant hill will put a dent in it. If your going to buy a zero turn fork over the difference in cash because you’ll thank me one day. Ferris, bad boy and gravely are some good options. Also anything over 2 blades won’t cut any better the quality of the cut gets worse.

I currently own a Husquvarna Rider 16 which was purchased in 2001 for $3,200.00. Its now starting to give me problems with starting. We have replaced the carb, starter solenoid, and ignition switch still will no turn over when moving the key to the start position. I will be sending it in to get an evaluation on this machine as to weather to keep it or move it on. Anyhow have owned it for 21 years and up until now going strong. The stamped deck is holding up very good and with all of the rocks we grow around here its holding up very well. This top 10 will help me decide on which to possibly purchase when its time.

I bought a Hustler Z 60" 14 years ago for my six acres and never regretted it. A $3000 mower is too light duty for my usage level. The Kawasaki engine gets my vote. 800+ hours and it runs better than new. Zero oil consumption and instant starts. Full flow oil filter and a $4 Toyota oil filter interchanges with the Kaw. I do like the Husqvarna from all the features but I'd have to try the seat. I have a friend with a one-acre property who I will advise to have a look. I would not buy anything that might need dealer attention from a big box store. Just not going to be there for you for instant parts access.

I bought a Ariens Edge with a 34 in cut about 2 years ago and it had a bad vibration when engaging the blades, sent it for warranty work and they just put a new belt on it, brought it back and same bad vibration. So sent it back and after dealing with the manufacturer they decided to replace the deck, spindles and blades which didn't solve the problem, then again after about 2 weeks replaced the what they called the extension shaft. So I was without my mower for about a month. Good thing I got the extended warranty. Of course the dealer authorize shop in my opinion didn't know how to repair it and didn't know what they were doing. They would use your mower to cut there grass and not even clean it up. My mower came back with grass clippings on it and a scratch on it. I prefer a B&S engine the Kohler is $100.00 more but parts are more expensive than B&S. I still have a Dixon 2005 Speed ZTR with a B&S 30 in cut I bought for $100.00 back in 9--8-16 that is still running and in good operation.

I bought a 46" Husqvarna riding mower used about 5 years ago (bought it from a guy who only had it a year but said it was too big for his yard) and I've put that mower through some very hard work around the small 22 acre farm, from basic yard mowing to mowing some brush along the fence in the fall and using it to pull a 16' landscape trailer to haul tree branches out of the field (probably over kill for that mower). I'm actually surprised that mower held up as long as it has, I've replaced the blades a couples times, new deck belts here and there, some tie rods, it's on it's 2nd drive belt, had to replace some pullies and a deck spindle, some welding on the deck, but through all that the hydrostat is still going strong and no complaints from the engine, the parts I've replaced were going to fail eventually I probably sped things up. I've been thinking about getting my first zero turn and if I do it's going to be a Husqvarna.

I've had a Husqvarna Zero Turn mower 7 years on a 5 acre farm. Couldn't be happier overall. Replaced belts, blades, solenoids putting it thru it's paces. Good mulcher blades means no grass pickup - chops it to rice! Use sharpened crappy blades for brush chopping, gopher/mole hill leveling/dirt packing and blackberries. Cup or brew holder too!

I picked up a z246 zero last fall for next to nothing. It is a long story but a farm supply had it and a customer brought it back after 4.5 hours. They sent it to a repair shop that was local and a authorized repair center. But it was the fall so they did not ask for it back until the new mowing year. The flywheel key had sheared off and it had to be pulled and replaced so they did that but they left it setting outside all winter. Yeah someones brand new mower. So the next spring dude went to pick it up and the repair shop was like here you go. The dude said no mine was new. They explained it was his but the plastic and labels was faded as well as the seat starting to already crack. So the owner blows up and tells the farm center i brought it back to you because it broke after so little use I want a new one. So they gave him a brand new one. This is a 2020 model and it is spring 2021. But Farm center guy said it just set in the back room for 2 years and the manager got tired of looking at it. He put a sign on it.. AS IS I think it needs a battery and belt. So it was marked at a fraction of a new mower. So I asked if I could put a battery in it and if it kinda runs and the hydros worked I would buy it, if not could I return the battery? He said sure, so it had no key either and I bought one of those and a battery and put in it and it fired right up. it moved under its own power and the blades tried to come on but you could tell something was off. So I said sold and I purchased a 3 year old mower with less than 5 hours for $200 plus tax and battery and key. I get it home and seen the blade tensioner spring is gone and I had one that fit off another mower so I put it on and they spun up but was clanking and the blade was scraping the ground. Apparently he hit something so hard it bent a blade and broke a spindle and sheared the flywheel key. So 2 days ago I put new blades and spindle on it and it mows like a brand new mower. I have just over $300 in it after tax and parts. The dude never even cut the factory shipping ire to secure the deck it was wired up. I have only used it once but OMG it cuts smooth. I never had a mower make such a nice cut. I put G3 blades on it.

All depends on the dealers in your area. In my area, Cub Cadets, sold at Farm & Fleet stores, and are sent off to be serviced, so long waits. The other brand that had the stamped deck, I would avoid (don't cut even in tight unlevel turns.). Ariens, there's a dealer in my area,, that that's all they sell, great family biz, bend over backwards for you, that's the one of these I would buy if I hadn't bought a Toro 54' for $4,200 2 weeks ago, and love it. Bought a Toro push mower drastically reduced at a big box store 5 yrs ago, best push mower I've ever owned. So expect that quality in the riding mower. Just be careful to get a name brand engine, no name engines are chinese knock offs of the Honda engine, so reliability is questionable.

I ended up buying a Craftsman Z560 zero turn two years ago, and I must say I have been well pleased with it thus far. And with my military discount at Lowes, I came in just over $2800.

I can't believe how cheaply, American's can buy a Zero turn mower for. I paid $7,500 for my MZ52 Husqvarna, secondhand. Sure, it only had a hundred hrs on it, and not a scratch. But new it would have set me back $13,500. I'm sure some top of the range commercial mowers in America might be pricey, but here, in Australia, I've seen Zero Turns at $27,000.

I agree, my MZ52 has a very uncomfortable seat. Too upright and no suspension at all. Not really happy with the way it mows to be honest. It tears up the ground every time you try to turn, no matter how careful you try to be. And it will not cut long grass without leaving 2 thin rows of grass between the blades, where they don't overlap? Mowers here in Australia are ridiculously expensive, I paid $7,500 second hand, for mine. $13,500 new. So I'll be sticking with mine until the damn thing falls apart. LOL.

I don’t understand the zero turn craze for homeowners. For a commercial business, absolutely. I can buy a decent rider with a 54 inch fab deck for less than 3k. For another 675 bucks, I can get tire chains, a snowblower, and a few wheel weights. Multipurpose, for way less than the price of a zero turn with the same size fabricated deck. Either way, zero turn or rider, I have to run the string trimmer, so I just can’t fathom paying that much more for a zero turn. I have 9 acres to mow, and I would rather take an extra half an hour to trim and maybe mow a bit slower than pay thousands more for a zero turn. I saw Dewalt zero turns at Home Depot with 54 inch decks for $6,989. Insane.

@@dino9395 I might disagree with you. My next door neighbor has a 15 year old Toro lawn tractor that does not replacing, but she keeps thinking it's on its last legs ( It isn't, I do the maintenance on it and it's just fine) She cuts two lawns, hers and a rental property they own. I dissuaded her father from buying a zero turn years ago when he replaced an ancient Snapper because of the steepness of the back of their property on the advice of the local Toro dealer who said there could be more of a roll over issue with the zero turns. I watched her father, then almost 90, roll the Snapper and though he wasn't hurt, became a bit gun shy, shall I say, towards using it. They bought the lawn tractor. Now, talking to a few commercial grass cutters who use a variety of them who say they feel far more comfortable on a zero turn than a lawn tractor on steeper terrain. I watched one guy using a big commercial John Deere working the back property next to the neighbor and he wasn't having a bit of trouble on the steepness part, just ran a bit slower and carefully in his turns. I don't want to give bad advice to my neighbors but this is going to be a borderline situation between the amount of grass that has to be cut, a relatively small amount of steepness to be concerned with and with the way she cuts, a lot of turning and a lot of reversing. It takes her half a day to cut both properties even with her husband doing the trim mowing and edging. They are both in their 70s and I keep hoping that they'll run the old mower until it dies and start using a lawn service. Got any advice I could pass on to them?

    • @dino9395
      @dino9395 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@mikegrant8490 It's all just personal choice when it really comes down to it..As you know lawn tractors will tip over if the hill is steep enough,But most of the zero turns have a tendency to slide down hills..For my own personal use I like just the standard riding mower, although with a large property the zero turns will definitely be much faster.

Which is the best zero turn mower for people with disabilities?
I have disabilities & I have a hard time getting on. Once on I can’t get the controls to go around me. I also worry about how am I going to service the blades because I can’t crawl on the ground like I use to. I’ve had 2 back surgeries & isn’t there a mower to meet my needs?
I’ve been searching & found me the perfect one by accident. I searched a local dealers website to see what they had. They have Country Clipper that I never heard of before & they have features that will make my life easier. The first thing I noticed is that they have a flip up deck for easier servicing & you can get a step with handrail. The last selling point for me was a single joystick on the right side. I was all excited to get one & when I went to the dealer they only had 3 with 72” deck. I want the 42” Avenue with mulching kit & maybe the bag. The base model was $4000 & worth it to me with those features but now price has gone up. If I wanted one I would be waiting a year or two because there’s a shortage on engines & the one I want has a Kawasaki. I just wished I’ve heard of these mowers sooner & I would of had one by now.

Yup, I clean my deck, grease what needs to be greased and keep the blades sharpened.
    It mows perfectly flat!
I looked at the Cub Cadet ZT1 50' fab decked mower with a Kawasaki engine for $3800 at the Depot.
That would be my choice IF this' one went out!
I say, some cut their grass. I mow my lawn

Blade speed isn't provided by most manufacturers which is why it's not included, hopefully one day all manufacturers will disclose that information publicly.

I mow my lawn with a commercial 60" eXmark mower. I used to work part time for a commercial lawn grooming company. After you run high quality rotary mowers you hate the cheap junk from the box stores. I couldn't afford a new $14,900-$17,000 machine but I could afford a used one. Also Kawasaki is much better engine than Kohler. eXmark has run their blade speed at the maximum legal limit for years I think. Scag also has a few good mowers. A good Blade tip speed is 18,000-18,500 in my opinion. I can mow a good bed of grass at ground speeds between 8-11 mph no problem. On a high speed blade the first 3/4" of the blade does most all the cutting so running carbide tipped blades helps keep them sharp longer. A company like eXmark spends millions designing the commercial cutting platform. They are meant to mow faster than the cheap ones. What I see wrong most often is a cheap mower being labeled as commercial and some poor landscaper buys it because it's cheaper. It's cheaper for a reason. Than they try to mow like a premium grade commercial mower and it does a horrible job. I learned years ago you often get what you pay for. That's why a good commercial mower comes with a nice comfortable seat that alone cost almost as much as a cheap ride on lawn tractor from a box store.

      @@ifyoutip I like your term "grooming "
High lift blades, and properly adjusted belts will literally suck the grass straight up allowing your blades to cleanly shear the tips off.

I use stand on mowers but i have a kubota zero turn commercial 60' cut kolher command pro, it's pretty comfy, gravely pro Stand I like, funny though Bradley's stand on cuts real sharp an pretty decent, don't mind the Husqvarna, or Toro's, cub cadet i feel the blades run too slow even at high speed.. not saying there bad, there just not for me.

So what's the deal with the stamped deck. Why is it not as good as a "fabricated deck"?

Normally the deck is thin and will rust out.

Does Toro have no timecutters in that range? In the Houston Texas area that's the manufacturer of choice. Toro everything! So it's what I purchased too, think it was right at 3k.

As soon as I hear stamped steel deck, I move along. That brace that goes across the deck chute catches and holds slightly wet clippings and you have to stop and clean it out. Very annoying to me.

Thank you for this comparison. I see Hustler didn't make the cut. I have to agree, Husqvarna Z248 appears to deserves #1 ranking. Though as this date 07.27.22 the Lowe's price tag on the 21.5HP model 48" cut is $3599.

Bought an Ariens Ikon and it was broken down after one season. Transaxle is not serviceable and busted it’s seal over winter. Now they have so few repair shops in my area I can’t get anyone to repair it. Pain in the but I don’t have a truck to haul mowers around so I have to rent a truck take off work because they won’t let me bring it on a weekend. NEVER buy a mower from Lowes

Don’t feel bad! Got an Ariens 60” Zoom; it is about 6 years old and has had both hydrostatic wheel units replaced! Only buy zero turns with hydro pumps and wheel mowers!

    • @davidwilliamson7462

I almost bought an Ariens Apex (that does have ZT3100 serviceable transaxle) from Lowe’s but they didn’t have the width I wanted with the Kawasaki engine. I am big into reading customer reviews and Ariens/Gravely were chock full of issues of which were mostly minor in nature. The problem is when you buy from a big “box store”, you have to take it to an Ariens dealer to have it repaired. For that reason, I would have paid a little more to purchase one from a reputable dealer, but in reading more reviews, customers were having issues with what was or wasn’t approved by Ariens for dealers to repair on a new machine. There are fewer Ariens dealers now then there was a few years ago, so what does that tell you? The same businesses are still open, just not selling Ariens.
