Just finished watching all of the 10 episodes after it dropped last night, and I love it! I am already very well-versed with the story of Ooku (both the manga and it's historical parallels), and the production did a wonderful job of adapting the story. Miyano Mamoru as Arikoto brought a wonderful air of vulnerability and nobility.
I binge-watched this in one sitting. A solid 10/10 anime! The storytelling is superb. If you are looking for an anime that discuss gender, sexuality, politics, and history, this anime is very interesting!
I agree, it was superbly written, if soul-crushing at points. I was expecting something fan service-y with lots of pretty boys, but nonetheless I see how the manga went on for so long. Highly recommend!
I love Ōoku, i read it. A few years back, it was adapted into live action. Now we see it adapted into anime. Thank you. Ōoku has great word building with a reversal gender role.

I just finished this and I HAD to write about it. Goodness this was AMAZING. What a storyline! What great characterization. Beautiful soundtrack. I loved every second of this! With this role reversal concept It truly captured the numerous horrifying things women had to go through in those times. I loved Arikoto😭 I loved the shogun❤ I hope they do a season 2🥺
I thoroughly enjoyed. Watched all episodes in one sitting... my favorite character was the Monk.. Arikoto, his heart was pure.. loved his character role.
Wow. What. A. Show. This is not my usual preference type for animes but I just couldn’t stop watching. Episode 5 was my favorite. Animes like this, I wish I could reset my memory so I could watch them over and over and get that 1st time watchers feeling when discovering something great. I just really loved it 🥰
Ooku: The Inner Chambers is compelling and unpredictable. Nice to see animated shows where they explicitly show everything without holding back. The characters have all served great purposes in developing the narrative. They’re all complex and driven. The bond and connection between Master Arikoto and Lord Iemitsu (Princess Chie) was emotional and it didn’t falter for just one second. We can see how these main leads go through hell and back just to be with each other and be there for each other at all costs. Overall, I’d say this is a pretty faithful adaptation. Dark, gruesome, and devastating are some other words I could describe this as.

Regardless it's an unforgettable one. The manga author is also well known for her shonenai work so the 1st ep was .... a bit diffident than what im used to. Had to make sure i was watching the right genre lol. The series took a lot of my tears

A well written story, . the thing about this kind of anime is that it enables you to see what it takes to be a man in society, . At first glance it might seem like a feminist propaganda anime but if you focus on what it is shown you can see that it's actually the exact opposite, . this is more of a statement on society's role that MUST be filled regardless of who or what fills those roles or the consequences of not filling those roles are a death sentence and extinction of society as a whole, . which in a way shows people from the other side ( namely feminists) what it's like to be a man and what we have done to survive as a whole both good and bad and it also shows how laxed a woman's role is in today's society compared to a man's while also showing the hardships, Both roles shown were presented with their benefits, and also their pitfalls, . Very interesting concept for an anime and a easy binge watch in one sitting! 100% recommended

My reviews so far by episode 2 I started watching this because I like historic Japan. Anything reminding me, even a little bit of yokai folklore, I enjoy the most. The dialog can be very, "We known each other since childhood but imma bring up something you definitely remember, so the audience will know our backstory" kind of thing... And if you're not into watching anything related to forced... You know? I wouldn't recommend this show, things get real dark and heavy by episode 2. Right now I'm even debating myself on watching the next episode by how uncomfortable things get in the story... (Leave the poor asexual monk alone damnit!)
