    The easiest way for me to remember this is to think of it in terms of conductance instead of resistance. Conductance is the inverse of resistance (1/R), and they just add together - which makes intuitive sense to me.
    So total conductance Ct = C1 + C2 + C3 etc, which is the same as the second formula listed 1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 etc.

    • @MaxPowerElectric
      @MaxPowerElectric 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a great idea, I bet a lot of students would understand parallel circuits more quickly if it was explained this way. By adding more paths for current to flow, the overall conductance is going up, so the resistance is going down, but engineers are very cynical people so they prefer to talk in negative terms like "resistance" as opposed to "conductance." Except for conventional vs. electron flow, for that they think positively

    • @DL-kc8fc
      @DL-kc8fc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MaxPowerElectric There is no "conductivity", so "resistance" is legitimate. For example, zero resistance refers to superconductors, so how would you express the so-called "conductivity" that results from resistance, such as conductor resistance? It is good to imagine this in a parallel scheme as a division into "branches", which carry only a fraction of the total "current" and therefore the passage through the "branches" is easier. The resistance in the parallel solution decreased. This is also mathematically illustrative if you are working with the same resistors, for example, let's take an example from a 10 ohm and 10 ohm video in parallel. The value of one of them, ie 10 ohms and divide by the number of resistors in the circuit, which is two. 10/2 = 5 ohms. Or, 5 ohms and 5 ohms - 5/2 = 2.5 ohms. Or 10 ohms and 10 ohms and 10 ohms - 10/3 = 3.33 ohms. If the resistances are different, it is necessary to solve this difference by the formula of the sum of the inverse values of the resistors. But in practice, the prevailing experience is that you have the same resistors and want to make smaller ones. The simple mathematics of one resistance value divided by the number of resistances is quite used because it is intuitive and reflects the principle.

    I love this channel! Soothing voice, great animations, and so much knowledge. However, i think your video got cut off at the beginning! If there's any thing that actually got cut im sure it was important!

    Used to dabble around with electronics when I was I kid in the 70s. When components were something you could hold between your fingers, unlike now when you need a microscope to see them. How do electronic hobbyists manage nowadays?

      You still get commercially available sets with components of that size. Kids today can also take things a step further with things like arduino (robotics kits)

      We work on old equipment. I started restoring mid 1920"s radios. The amazing 201A vacuum tubes are close to 100 years old and still work!

      Magnifying glasses and tweezers. I can’t remember the weird number codes for SMD capacitors and have to look them up.
      Plus, many devices are still made at human scale for prototypes etc., but SMD is far cheaper.

      There should be a space before the tolerance end which would put it to the right. Plus the value would not start with a gold or silver nor would the tolerance be represented by a color of the rainbow.

    Resister come (normally) in standard values. The smaller the tolerance the more values.
    At 20% the values are:
    10 15 22 33 47 68
    At 10% the values are:
    10 12 15 18 22 27 33 39 47 56 68 82
    At 5% the values are:
    10 11 12 13 15 16 18 20 22 24 27 30 33 36 39 43 47 51 56 62 68 75 82 91
    The 20% values are the easiest to find.

    Hi there. I have a small question about resistors. I’m trying to fix something and therefore I need to add more resistors in the circuit as the ones there are in a now turn black and get really hot. I’ve asked a friend and he suggested to add 4 0,25W 10K resistors, but I don’t have enough space for that. I’m not a very technical person so I don’t know much about it so therefore I reached out to you. Is there a way I can add 1 bigger resistor with a different value in this circuit instead of adding the 4 ones i got suggested? I would also like to know what value I would need. I’m looking forward hearing from you. Greetings from the Netherlands! Sander
