  • Left untreated, the fresh water system can develop bacteria or mold. Although we don't drink the water from our water tank, the water system in our Escape Trailer 21 is overdue for cleaning. Most of the experts say it should be sanitized every 6 months or so and ours hasn't been cleaned in 2 years! So, in this video, we show you how to sanitize your RV water system using a small amount of bleach and a lot of water. This process includes turning off the hot water heater and putting it into bypass mode, then adding the diluted bleach and water into the RV water tank, running it through all the faucets, and then letting it sit for a few hours before flushing the system multiple times with water.

I’m on the books for a 5.0 and I was wondering about the hot water tank when sanitizing. Of all the videos I’ve watched, you’re the only one to mention putting in by-pass mode, so thanks! 👍🏼

Holy smokes, you should get paid for teaching this stuff. Love the collapsible/bendable funnel. Did you already do a vlog about the paper towel holder above your sink? I can't find one like it ... where'd you get it? please. :-)

I think we mentioned the paper towel holder in an early video but it's so far back I don't remember which one. Here's a link to it though amzn.to/3eVGAJQ

I think 33% peroxide diluted down to 6% by using 5x water approx may be much safer. What do you guys think?

Here's a link to a discussion on an rv forum as to why bleach is better.www.irv2.com/forums/f54/bleach-vs-peroxide-200785.html You'd have to use a LOT of peroxide to do the job. Thanks for the suggestion though!

This is the 3rd video I've watched on RV sanitizing, but no one has mention where you hook up to the parks water and hook directly to RV and use its pressure. ( not use your holding tank and pump) What about that line that you hook on to, does it get sanitized when you fill your holding tank up? I understand this is the way to sanitze the fresh water tank, but what about that direct pressure line from the park? I see you had 2 caps, and you took the one off that fills the tank, but what about the other one? There could be 1 foot of pipe or 3 feet before it connects to the main lines. but if its not sanitized then your introducing bacteria back into your lines again.

Thanks for the comment Patrick. The problem is there's not a good way of adding bleach to the city water connection since it' a pressurized inlet. You'd have to figure out a way of putting in bleach from a pressurized hose.

We only have a pressurized fill line (no gravity fill) and what I’ve read is to pour the bleach into hose with a funnel before connecting it. Maybe that would work for disinfecting the gravity line too?
