    Being Australian I went to sleep after the race thinking "Man it sure was nice to have such a great race where we had no controversy just nice, hard, clean racing." Dude you completely missed the point on Sauber that they pitted Bottas from P10 with eight laps to go. His race engineer even straight up said on the radio that they would've been P12 (and then promoted to P11!) if they stayed out. And this after second guessing themselves and trying to make Bottas decide the strat on the radio (wtf?). Even if it went to shit, they still would've been P15-16. But that's assuming George had that 1.5kg advantage for the ENTIRE race. I did watch the 24 hours of Spa race last month and the GT drivers were loving the new grippy track surface and were doing much faster times than last year. They were running Pirelli tyres too. So grippy track, zero warm up issues and efficient deg all contributed to the 1 stop working. I think that is why George had good traction on all the important parts of the track to keep Lewis behind. In the cool down room, George did say he kept finding more grip as the laps ticked down. That is down to the track surface. They've smoothened out the bumps as well. Hats off to Spa. Great work with circuit maintenance.

    I think the tyres could be why he was disqualified. In being used for 34 laps - 16 more than team-mate Hamilton - Russell's hard compound tyres would have been more worn and thus lighter. The difference in tyre weight could have been as much as 0.2kg per tyre, adding up to 0.8kg - more than half of the critical 1.5kg. I think the team messed up as they should have been aware of this, but maybe they got caught up in Mercedes being on course for a 1/2 finish and totally misjudged or forgot about how much underweight he could end up being with only one stop.

      Mercedes knew that they were underweight even without the tires. They left 1.8kg of fuel extra in the tank before sending it to be weighed. If the stewards hadn't drained the extra fuel before weighing they would have passed the test. I think they forgot the weight between the different floor specs and found out when it was too late to change.

    • @1972dsrai

      Exactly. Thats what I think they should do considering he only stopped once and would have finished with far more worn snd thus, lighter tyres. But the rules are there for everyone, tyres included so theres no excuse. If Mercedes were top of things instead of getting excited about getting a 1/2 they probably would have made him pit twice to ensure he at least picked up some points. With all the testing they do on tyres they surely should have been thinking it could be a factor.

As he the car was 1.5kg underweight at the finish, the car should've been 1.5kg heavier at the start also to prevent being underweight at the finish. • @William_Organ
    @William_Organ หลายเดือนก่อน

    The method for weighing cars post-race is somewhat inconsistent.
    From a scientific perspective, you have three key variables (I am ignoring damage like chunks of lost carbon fibre):
    Dependent variable - vehicle weight
    Independent variable - remaining fuel
    Independent variable - tyre wear
    Variation in vehicle weight is determined by fuel load and tyre wear. My understanding is that post-race, the remaining fuel is drained from the vehicle; however, the tyres are not removed.
    If drivers/teams are going to be penalised for tyre wear in isolation, then it is weird to include them in calculations. Currently, the cars are weighed to include a variable that is not regulated (tyre usage). It's like they tried to be scientific in their approach and then just gave up.

    Sorry everyone giving credit for a strategy that they discussed in their meeting and Lewis said was his preferred strategy in the interview with canal and told the team his tyres were fine and they choose to do the 2 stopper for him and go traditional route. Not his fault and thank goodness he got the win he deserved. Justice prevailed.
