What a year for death metal, I love it! Appreciate the sound and reasonable ranking, great stuff as always. For me personally, I saw Ulcerate and Replacire a bit higher, and I really dug all the old school stuff like 200 Stab Wounds, Gatecreeper or Sentient Horror. The only omission I'd complain about is Unhallowed Deliverance - Of Spectres and Strife, I thoroughly enjoyed that one. Closing out, the tops are spot on for me: JFAC is my AOTY, and Aborted a close second.
Amazing video, outstanding effort to compile so many releases, much appreciated! In terms of the rankings, I completely agree with the high tiers for Mitochondrion, Cosmic Putrefaction and Gigan. Slimelord easily put out my favourite death metal album of the year. It is such a strange, mind-bending journey through the swamp. I'd have to shout out Bedsore's album Dreaming the Strife for Love. I dare to say it's better than Blood Incantation, and I know I'll get some flack for that LOL. Also, because you have enjoyed Thorium's album this year, I recommend the vocalist's other project Withering Surface's album Exit Plan, which also came out this year.
Didn`t listen to very much death metal this year. I liked Nile, Benighted, Aborted and Blood Red Throne. Blood Incantation was alright, but didn`t blow me away. Will check out Pestilenght as I love Artificial Brain and Afterbirth.
It’s a good thing that these lists are personal and subjective. Convincing other people and even ourselves of that is the problem haha. I’ve had to fill out a few hurt feelings reports from some of the lists I’ve seen this December lol

I liked the Vltimas. Really solid and memorable riffing and catchy hooks. I see that the vocals are an acquired taste, but I‘d always choose experimentation over generic vocals.
Absolutely fair. Can‘t force yourself to like it. In comparison to other albums on the list I just found the positioning to be a bit unfair, if the only argument were the vocals, when looking at the really good songwriting.

I really wish I liked that Knoll more. It's good, but it's not something I can return to repeatedly. They were pretty fun live, though. Great unsettling stage presence.
Im in my 50s. I love the heavy guitars, and change up time signatures of modern thrash and death metal. There only seems to be 2 kinds of singers in modern metal: scream-o and cookie monster and I cant take them seriously. Can anyone help me?
Although I enjoy both the Steve Tucker era was amazing. FFF is my favourite MA album without a doubt. It's not just the vocals though it.was the riffs and Trey really stepped his solo game up back then.

Yeah i don't know about death metal this year. I'm more into older death metal and more of the Swedish sound. I don't know if its the vocals of all these new releases are just getting old after awhile. The modern production might be why it does nothing for me. The music is all samey. Its just not that memorable. Come to think of it music of any genre with new music is just not that memorable. I put everything on this list in meh or okay. Necrophobic one of my favorite bands but the new album maybe i need more listens.
@@MetalTrenches I've been listening to it for 25 years and I still don't. They performed about half of it the last time I saw them, full performance for about 30 people. Maybe one of the most underrated metal drummers ever.

I mean every album has folk to it especially Time 1 and 2 aswell with forest seasons but it isnt prioritized? Death metal never hits as hard when i see music video of them. Yeah some videos arent corny but it makes me not take it as seriously and i love generic death metal.

Listen to other bands. Knocked loose, Kublai khan, Archspire, Lorna shore, drain, jinjer all sound pretty different vocally
I never liked David Vincent's vocals. Even with Morbid Angel, I prefer the stuff with Steve Tucker.

I mean every album has folk to it especially Time 1 and 2 aswell with forest seasons but it isnt prioritized? Idk the exact word i am looking for, no idea myself what to categorize them besides Melo death lol.

If we're not including proggy stuff like Blood Incantation and Opeth then I definitely agree.
Tbh I wouldn't even call the new Opeth death metal at all. It's just prog rock/metal with some growls here and there.
Death metal never hits as hard when i see music video of them. Yeah some videos arent corny but it makes me not take it as seriously and i love generic death metal.

The only death metal albums that actually matter this year are Mitochondrion, Defeated Sanity, Brodequin, and Knoll. Everything else is just bland.
