Scott is such a sweetheart as well, when fallujah played in switzerland this year, me and my friends waited outside the venue to get signatures of band members. scott stayed for a while and chatted with us it was so cool. such a kind and down to earth dude
Awesome of you to have him featured, he’s my favorite guitarist at the moment and doesn’t get nearly enough attention! My Spotify wrapped last year was literally just the Dreamless album because I’d been playing it nonstop. This year my wrapped still has Fallujah in the top 5, and before them it was pretty rare for me to ever want to repeat an album that much, I usually crave variety.
two seconds into this vid I had to grab my guitar. I have been working on pentatonic subs with my students , I am stoked to work on his modal approch to pentatonics and share it with my students. best vid yet Deaner!
Saw Fallujah many years ago without ever really hearing them prior. Not only did they sound great, but Scott really stood out as one of the most unique guitarists I've seen and he sounded so damn good. Killer player
@ C'mon maaaann! Haha, makes sense - especially since he showed Dean the difficulty of playing a alternate/double note with his fingers. Good observation, kind sir.
I saw the Fallujah/Archspire show in Nanaimo BC years ago, Ollie sat on a couch next to me randomly during the Fallujah set. Super weird seeing bands at that venue where theres like lounging furniture to chill when you get really baked
Lol same thing happened to us at a Whitechapel show awhile back. They finished playing before Emmure came on and suddenly I was watching the set with all the dudes from Whitechapel. It felt surreal because I had never actually met a band in the flesh until that point.
That’s how I learned modes! This was something Guthrie spoke about in some video on TH-cam. If you know your major and minor pentatonic shapes, you got 5/7s of a mode there - just add the modal intervals and you’re good. Awesome advice!
Such an incredible musician. I remember seeing Scott play at Java Jazz in Houston about 09 when they made the first album. Extremely talented, Dude has put in so much work and it shows.
I remember meeting Mr. Carstairs with my best friend when Scott and I were both 18. Scott was super funny and nice, it was inspiring. Nowadays my best friend is in Arkaik, and Scott still shreds. It's amazing because Chris and Scott are both such good dudes, they deserve to have made it.
I really enjoyed this little back and forth; I would love to see more stuff like this with more guitarists in the future. Maybe Kieth Merrow or Danial Bergström would be down? Regardless this was a great video Dean and would make a cool series.
his technique is truly impressive! and I particularly like his approach to modes by adding a note specific to each :O I will definitely work on my modes with this idea in mind, thank you a lot for the video!
15:12 Loving this part, I do this sort of thing writing riffage, but just now getting my toes in the water for writing/learning leads and solos and was feeling lost. This little bit kind of made everything click, bcuz I tend to think in intervals as well 😂 Great stuff per usual!! 🦾🦾🦾
Just what I wanted to comment! Also, they are from Andorra, which is small country which borders both Spain to the north and to the south France, right in the heart of the Pyrenees. I just visited the area, and it's incredibly beautiful.
Spiritual Migration was the album that sold me and I’ve been a massive fan ever since. They are incredible and I’m lucky to have actually met and talked to the boys several times over the years. Carlos is literally the sweetest dude ever. The fact that Dean doesn’t know them is a huge L ngl
Dean, just so you know, im pretty sure with the explosion of long length podcasts, most people would LOVE longer videos just like this. As in 1-2 hours+ When this one ended i was literally surprised and relatively upset😂 Please think of entertaining the idea of long format videos, espeically chill, lesson type ones like this with a guest Love your content🤘
That way of thinking of the modes actually made some sense to me. I've never really understood the concept of modes. Is there a chart that would show for example the minor modes and which note to play flat or sharp lol sorry I'm having hard time putting this into words.
Wow, that reminded me of that moment in computational chemistry where I got so completely and utterly lost, I did not understand a single thing anymore. Sounds nice though.
Look at these nerds... Aioli goes with fries, gents. It doesn't go on guitar! Every time I see these cats live I wish I had taken more time to pay attention to what I was doing with my instruments.
Scott is one of the most unique and audibly recognizable players in metal.
and he can pull it off live perfectly.
100%
For sure underrated af
Scott's one of the few players that's really carved out his own sound in modern metal/shredding. Monster player.
Scott is such a sweetheart as well, when fallujah played in switzerland this year, me and my friends waited outside the venue to get signatures of band members. scott stayed for a while and chatted with us it was so cool. such a kind and down to earth dude
That last bit of advice about learning pentatonic patterns and adding in one interval at a time to learn shape and flavor.. That’s gold.
Scott is an absolute beast, his stuff with Fallujah is just so unique. Love the guy and his streams are fire as well.

Used your code on my first Sheet Happens order. The Jazz III XL pick that was just floating around in the box is my new favourite pick lmao.
Hell yeah
Never knew he played without a pick, that's crazy. Dude has an Eric Johnson kinda sound. Classy.
He does play with a pick. Just that one example was pickless but he had it tucked in his middle finger. Just an fyi not trying to be that guy.
@ C'mon maaaann! Haha, makes sense - especially since he showed Dean the difficulty of playing a alternate/double note with his fingers. Good observation, kind sir.
6:57 I literally just got that riff out of my head from that patreon livestream you did, and now it's back in there again.
Scott is my favorite modern guitar player. Really cool interview!
Great stuff. The best piece of advice I've incorporated into playing guitar is to think almost exclusively in intervals.
Goddamn it, Scott is such an amazing player! I just recently found Fallujiah and the unique guitars had me in an instant .
Hybrid and fingerstyle implementation is wild, good stuff!!! G L E A M
Scott's guitar playing is just beautiful and he's awesome live too.
Love your guitar playing as well Dean :)

I had the privilege of talking with Scott after a show here in the UK. Such a humble and wholesome dude. Fallujah absolutely rips live too. Much love.
Idk why i never thought about modes in this way. This changes everything.
I took lessons from Scott back in 2020 and it made a huuuge difference in my playing 🤘
That’s how I learned modes! This was something Guthrie spoke about in some video on TH-cam. If you know your major and minor pentatonic shapes, you got 5/7s of a mode there - just add the modal intervals and you’re good. Awesome advice!

My 2 Favorite Guitarists of all time, what an awesome video this is!!!!
Scott is my favorite guitarist. Thanks for having him on!
"Yeah, I've been trying this new thing..." (proceeds to play his signature sound)

SCOTT SCOTT SCOTT SCOTT
7:42 is unbelievably sick🤤 please just repeat that over and over again for a verse or something in a song it’s so satisfying
Dude is definitely one of the best and most unique sounding guys right now in the metal scene.I love what he's doing.
Dude, good fucking job on getting some of THE best, yet MOST unrecognized guitar players alive! You keep my playing fresh! ❤
Scott’s massive in person definitely been learning a lot from him which ever way I can
Dude, those pinch harmonics Dean is doing at 8:25 acoustically are awesome and impressive!
Tonewood baybee
Fallujah is so good live. Glad to have seen them a bunch.
Scott is an absolute gem of a guy and easily one of the most skilled and creative guitarists alive. Loved this Dean!
Scott is my favorite guitarist. man is insane.
These are some of my favourite guitarists of all time.
Worth listening until the end. The way he talked about practicing the pentatonic will change the way I practice.
I've never really listened into Fallujah much admittedly but I watch Scotts twitch stream pretty often. The dude is an absolute monster of a player.
his technique is truly impressive! and I particularly like his approach to modes by adding a note specific to each :O I will definitely work on my modes with this idea in mind, thank you a lot for the video!
Yoooo those tap harmonics he was hitting…that shit was DOPE!!
Dean: "new album"
Me:
Scott is such a good dude. And he plays ridiculously well. Love watchin him on Twitch
all fallujah songs are masterpieces
15:12 Loving this part, I do this sort of thing writing riffage, but just now getting my toes in the water for writing/learning leads and solos and was feeling lost. This little bit kind of made everything click, bcuz I tend to think in intervals as well 😂 Great stuff per usual!! 🦾🦾🦾
My buddy Scott 🤘🏻
it fucking KILLS me Dean doesn't know Persefone - Core is my favorite album of all time!
Aathma is amazing as well. Living Waves is forever seared into my brain.
@@SouthernCross_ yeah that is the only Persefone song I regularly listen to outside of Core hah. Paul is the GOAT
Just what I wanted to comment! Also, they are from Andorra, which is small country which borders both Spain to the north and to the south France, right in the heart of the Pyrenees. I just visited the area, and it's incredibly beautiful.

Shin-Ken is the album that got me hooked on Persefone, so many great riffs and a unique style.

@DeanLamb god dammit Dean! Haha
3:17 Dean fanboy’ing moment. Love it.
Fallujah and Scott are amazing. I jammed The Flesh Prevails every day the year it came out
Scott is an animal.❤
10:50 sounds a bit like some Erra style riffs
Cliffs of Dean
The whammy bar whisperer in the flesh...
16:06 we will never know what he did with just the 4-note chords of B minor :(
Your guitar is freaking 🔥🔥🔥
Fallujah has been the shit since their first album, dude SINGS with his leads.
Damn those licks around the 14:00 mark are very Petrucci like, very cool.
Scott is such a great dude. Cheers from Divinity in Calgary.
BTW, Persephone's new album is deadly!
Bubly! Ive got one right now, good stuff
11:53 - This is it. This is what I lack as a guitarist, and so desperately wish I could do.
Gleamers unite
Scotts insane skills are always impressive, but hes not just a schredder, his writing skills are also insane.
Scott is the goat
The Flesh Prevails is at least a top 10 album for me
I remember when I would head to Andrew’s garage and they would improvise on the spot along with Robert Morey who I miss a lot too.
I didn't know Persefone was from Andorra until Scott said "Andolla" 🤣
Scott is such a monster
Gleam!
I love how Dean looks in disbelief at the insane shit that Scott plays like he isn't himself isn't an insane guitar player for 99% of people.
That way of thinking of the modes actually made some sense to me. I've never really understood the concept of modes. Is there a chart that would show for example the minor modes and which note to play flat or sharp lol sorry I'm having hard time putting this into words.
Persefone is from Andorra
Dean, I was wondering how you're writing without a drummer? Do you guys have a bunch of blast beats you're play to or just playing sans drums
Saw Scott, had to watch.
great way to ingrain modes at the end there
Wow, that reminded me of that moment in computational chemistry where I got so completely and utterly lost, I did not understand a single thing anymore. Sounds nice though.
The BE(A)ST!
Hes so sick
I remember reading years ago that he got lessons from Christian Muenzer. Kinda makes sense if true
"They're from Andola or something" - it's Andorra, a tiny city state between France and Spain.
But he's right that Persefone is in fact super dope!
I thought he said Angola.
I was, like, "What?!? Wow."
FALLUJAH
Whammy lord brings us some gleam riffs.
Look at these nerds... Aioli goes with fries, gents. It doesn't go on guitar!
Every time I see these cats live I wish I had taken more time to pay attention to what I was doing with my instruments.
Bro, you have to get on some Persefone. They're AMAZING.
Damn Scott's tones are sick, what's he running?
I love Persefone so much
Everybody gonna be switching to the Matteo Mancuso route lol
thoughts on seeing the thumbnail: "dean's hair came back and his powers increased"
Dean Goat
Mr Claines husband, if you get Brandon Ellis on one of these vids where he talks about his playing, I will sub to the Patreon. Thank you
It already exists now pay up
I know he looks at Brandon Ellis playing in videos, but I mean they gotta be on Skype or something so I can hear them talking music
Brandon is my personal favorite modern guitarist. Dude fuckkn shreds!!!
Love all the content you've been putting out, try and get Josh from Sylosis. That dude can rip
His sound reminds me of a more technical version of soilwork.
Dude rips. talked to him for a while after a show in dallas.
O.O watches video. goes back to playing pentatonics ^_^
GLEAM

@@sciomancy6 we out here with GLEAM LAMB! 😆
dean's feeling the gleams
My man gleaming
Dean I love you but not knowing Persefone is a massive L
Is Scott living in a church? What an amazing playing
Yes, he is
Andorra + Angola = Andola
Sounds like you guys are trying to implement some classical technique in your playing. Pretty dope.
Definitely scared rn
