When I saw my first android in a store in 2010, it was $450. I asked the dude, what is the point in buying this which is like at least 200 more than a symbian touch phone. He said you can install software. What he meant was gmail, fruit slash etc. But it boomed.
Sometimes when I come across my old phone I boot it up just to remind myself how spoiled we are nowadays 😂 it really helps appreciating how far they’ve gotten Haha
I would never have an iPhone over my Pixel devices. Android is just so much more customisable. Most people just leave their phone on all the time so it doesn't matter anyway how fast it boots.
You can put a smartphone to sleep by pressing the power button, and not have to fully turn it on every time, I feel sorry for you if you completely switch off your smartphone Everytime you don't use it, if that was a joke than good one 😄
Imagine being in a emergency and you have to wait for your phone to do that. Like you could stand up, arrest a person, make a 5-star meal, drive to the hospital and the phone still be loading. But now if it's over 3 seconds and it haven't turn on, we would had a heart attack.
I loved it at the time, definitely wasn't ready for touchscreen-only yet, so the g1 was perfect w/ the popup keyboard, esp coming from the sidekick. Still got my G1 & G2 (& sidekick 2) 😬

But manufacturers like samsung, OnePlus,google provide software update for 3 years. Samsung gives security patch for one more year. Also in xiaomi and pocophones, we can install custom roms and it is really not that hard and the company even provides their own official app to do that.
Fum fact: android was planning on releasing its first phone around the same time as the iPhone 2G but once the 2G was announced android was like:oh no if we release this it'll get clobbered by the 2g

I think my first Android was either still a HTC, loved all of them, or it was the Samsung S4Zoom, which I adored - at the time people kept asking my if it was a white iPhone, which didn't exist at the time, or if the Zoom lens was an add on, which it wasn't. Ahhh, those were the days!
I miss old-school Android phones over old-school iPhone specifically for a couple of things... the physical keyboards that a lot of Android phones had, and SD card slots. The keyboard was great for gaming. That's my main reason, and you could program the keys, etc. So much customization. I'd much rather press physical keys than have on screen buttons to press when gaming. SD cards are great for storage 🤷♂️ no explanation needed for that lol.

Apple has made so much money over the years from people buying higher storage in the beginning and now, higher storage PLUS iCloud storage. I forget what android calls their cloud service, I know it’s through google. It’s really smart from a business standpoint. Also, if Apple would’ve done physical keyboards, nobody would’ve even considered them a competition, at least that’s what I think. Apple came out with their first phone being completely touchscreen and not that fake touchscreen that android first put out. Omg I remember pushing on my very first android “touchscreen” hard as hell, because it was that pressure screen thing, I don’t know what it’s called anymore. It’s really crazy how far technology has come, especially with phones. Who would’ve thought 20 years ago that cell phones would take over landlines and could also be used as mini computers. Crazy.

The phones are going from completely off to on. Normally, a phone is just in sleep mode. That’s why it doesn’t need to load the entire OS to turn on.
