I was diagnosed with this same condition when I was 24 and it cleared up literally every puzzling problem I could remember going through during childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood. The anxiety, long homework nights, panic attacks, fleeting eye contact, headaches, & migraines. I’ve come a long way in the past 7 years. Thanks for the video, simple and to the point!
I just got diagnosed last week. I am so happy I finally know what it is what is making my reading so difficult. I am getting a colour test tomorrow and getting tinted glasses. I have been struggling for years with it so I am so happy everything is going to be sorted.
I was diagnosed with Irlens when I was only 12. That was 33 years ago this year. It has drastically changed my quality of life. I used to struggle and avoid reading because I just couldn’t force myself to see the words on the page. I must have been one of their original cases. How cool.

I struggle greatly with ADHD, and any artificial light makes me miserable, so I'm pretty sure that this is my issue. Looking forward to sx'ing an appt.
My doctors have been baffled for years at my vision issues. I have Autism Level 1 and Ehlers Danlos. For me, everything comes across as fine-ish but I get murky halos around strong lights in the dark and any flourescent lights, sometimes starburst like patterns but never anything bladed like with astigmatism. Potent LEDS like the reds on tail lights or those new blue Christmas lights everyone's obsessed with because of their color, those things don't like, blade off but like. Those things irritate me. Intensity, maybe? Squinting never helped it just made it look like if I had astigmatism. I've also struggled with ghosted double vision on text, but only when the text is white and background is dark. And mostly only on LED screens. Since birth my left eye has just been like. Idk. Less detail but not blurry? Kind of darker. A dark void spot manifests in it if I'm not looking around and hover on one spot with the right eye closed but then it leaves if I move the eye. I often feel like I'm not getting enough information out of my sight even though the image is crisp. Everyone was worried I had that keratoconus thing but no optometrist ever found anything physically wrong with my eyes. Finding out about Irlen Syndrome has been incredible and it fits so well. We were all super worried that I might have something like a brain tumor. It's very comforting to know that the solution to this is so simple and that Irlen Syndrome isn't going to cause me harm. LoL This is amazing! I experience this! Migraines were a big part of life as a child. I carry my sunglasses with me during the winter because I have a better since of well being when I wear them on a cloudy day. I stopped reading but I absolutely love reading. I bought some color overlays from online. I will see...
My daughter has irlen’s syndrome and was diagnosed last year. Irlen’s syndrome is genetic and passed down through the parents, so although we haven’t identified anyone else in the family having the syndrome as yet, it’s likely future generations will inherit it. For those researching whether they might have it, another great website is www.irleneast.com/index-b.htm As well as explaining some of the symptoms, there are also simulations of what a person with irlen’s might see when reading, helping us without understand a little of what’s going on. Btw anyone in the U.K. it’s unlikely you will get NHS funding for being diagnosed at this time (hopefully in the future!) and will have to pay privately.

I have irlen syndrome and use a green shade overlay in my glasses but before the glasses words muddled up but not as bad as the wavy text you showed so is there different levels of irlen syndrome. The video was really helpful thx.

Twenty years ago I visited a low vision center with cover color glasses that assisted in stopping the shimmer of white light. Finally the world is meeting the needs of those who have light sensitivity. Blue eyed folks and night vision or ADHD benefit from Yellow... Amber is mine helper. Try it.. My Mom of 89 still drives cause she wheres them... Yeah.. glad IRlens has become helpful... yet yellow with no cost is a start for many....
i was diagnosed in 2007 with irlen syndrome and also dyslexia my glasses do help me when the print is of a good size, then when the print gets smaller i find it very hard to see .. but i do have good friends that help me with these things also .. also thanks very much for your video ....

I first noticed anything was wrong when I was 13 because I always thought what I saw on the page was what everybody else saw until someone told me that it wasn't. I'm almost 18 now and I've been using a coloured overlay since probably age 14 which has really helped my speed and accuracy of reading but not fully. I have always tried to figure out what was wrong and all the doctors simply told me it was eye strain and so did my optician but I know it is definitely more than that as my symptoms all match up to this condition. This year however I'm going to a different opticians that offers colourmetry so hopefully I can finally be diagnosed and have proper help 😁

I was born with url in syndrome and I am 12!!! I'm still in high school and it's stupid to try and read before I got my overlay
I have dyslexia and it’s not like this and I never understand why every video on dyslexia shows irlen syndrome like dyslexia doesn’t make the words move or float around just makes words look backwards
If you want a cheaper way to treat the issue get laser safety goggles as it's design to block certain wavelengths of light. I'd use the eagle pair brand.

I’ve a boy, 7 y.o, with T21 and a daughter, 12 y.o., with ADHD. I noticed her read better with a colour overlay. I’m not quite sure my perception is true. How can I test to Irlen syndrome. I lived in Brazil and is so hardly to get help here. Thanks in advance

I really think I have this. I see words pulsating when reading and patterns swirl, I get migrains all the time. Florescent lights is horrible, I am trying to gain my teaching license and is near impossible. Who can help me? I do have sever dyslexia

Hello, I have had chronic dizziness and light sensitivity with headaches for about a year. Is it a possibility Irlen Syndrome can cause dizziness? It is the main symptom i experience. @amenclinic
I have irlens syndrome and before i was diagnosed i had head aches and my eyes would start aching so from my experience you probably have it. She forgot to say that there are other types of reading that your brain takes in. The one i have is where every few minutes the words go blurry and if i don't have the sheet i will start seeing gaps down the page also known as rivers
What that wavy distortion isn't normal?
How do we know if a child is having myopia or Irlen syndrome? Can they have Irlen syndrome and be myopic at the same time? If they are tested positive for Irlen Syndrome, does that mean they do not have myopia?
I would recommend getting tested for both. They recommend testing children only if they are over 7 if u are getting tested for irlen syndrome
