Don't know if Rory reads, but as somebody that worked every day with a sling on tow truck for years I could offer some advice to prevent damage. Get a hardwood 4X4 about 40 inches long. Once chains hooked axle (whatever) to bottom of sling, place 4X4 so chains lift on frame. This reduces lift on bumper, force on straps to bumper is mostly back, bumper designed to resist. Next, the chains from bottom to top of sling should have slack, unless towing a wreck that could cut straps. Straps should lift bottom of sling, chain should only catch it if strap breaks. If you had a camera on it I bet you would see the lower winch line got tight to cause the partial unhook. That truck, or trailmater; Late 50s cars w Continental Kit, (Long rear overhang) or towing out of parking garage (lowered boom), could not lift car high enough to keep front tires off ground. Pull front wheels, tow at ride height. Would that work on your rough ground?
I had a 1964 1-ton Chevy with an in-line 6, manual 3-speed school bus engine/transmission. It was set up with duallies and would climb a tree if it kept traction. I hauled firewood with it in Indiana. Like Blue, it had leaf spring bed levellers (overloads). I often loaded it with wet logs, piled way above the cab and tied them down with straps. With that load, it would settle nicely on the levellers and be happy as a clam. Thx for the memory.

Years ago a friend crashed his ATV in the central Nevada desert. I rode back to camp to get his truck. On the way back, a tire got shredded on the shale. He had big tires. So I had to swap a rear tire to the front and then put the spare on the rear. I did have jack and wrench, but what a PITA. Picked him (and quad).. halfway back to camp lost another tire. Thankfully after a number of hours somebody gave us a ride back to camp so we could regroup and figure it out.
My favorite part was when Shawn is explaining the dire situation and then says, 'but look how nice it is out here.' That's the attitude you gotta have. On the starter, were you guys running the brace at the back of the starter to the block? Most people don't put them back on but they really help.
I love those old square bodies I have a 88 chevy one ton 4x4 dana axles front and back runs like a champ thanks for beautiful views and nice recovery as always
Ol' Blue needs more starter shims, boss. Hey, the new starter came with shims. That's a first. I always hated Chebby starters for that reason. Good call on rewiring the starting circuit.
The first proper car I bought for my small business as a very young man was the cheapest 78 RWD Chevy Blazer straight six work truck with steel rims and 3 speed manual gearbox, very solid, and went through deep snow with proper winter tires.
Awesome adventures, hateful starters, great views. good people. we all have bad days. I started using the cast iron nose cones no shimming required. I use the high torque as well. I still get heat soak now and then. they use to come with heat shields, but every body throws them away. I have a heat blanket on one of my hoopties seems to help a lot. Some guys wrap their headers. I'm more of a live dive kinda dude, no rain coat needed. Great show guys, thanks for sharing.
I believe strongly in the philosophy of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but also "it won't break if it don't get used" Great work guys, love the scenery shots. 😁
That yellow Jeep looks just like mine! I call mine Yellow Fever because someone told me my Jeep looked sic! Looks like you're having one of my days. My truck broke down, and Yellow Fever is marking its territory from the trans pan gasket. Guess it's that time of year.

OMG, what a horrible day for you guys. That person that didn't want to help will meet KARMA one day... I know it's not going to do anything now but: warm hugs from Belgium and thank you for your videos, I LOVE them.
I ran into that same starter problem many years ago with a stroker motor in a 70s Blazer. Older corvettes has starters with a cast iron nose piece, that stopped the high compression 383 from breaking them
Over the years, couldn't even count how many times I've helped a buddy, let alone a complete stranger. Used to carry more than I needed in my work truck, especially in the winter. Heck, I've spun around on the expressway to see if they needed help, even to the point of being late or getting greasy... Can't understand not helping, but decades ago I agreed to "Do a good turn, daily!" & Be Prepared... Sure do hope that the selfish folks find Karma! Great video, with the gray sky's sure seemed to show off the depth of contours in those mountains! Thanx !

Spectacularly beautiful and brutal...just another Monday for Trailmater!
Sean putting the fear in the desert sheeple...Karma is a hell of a thing🐑!
I have never and never will leave anyone strand on land or water. Glad you were able to self recover
Oh man, It is always something. But the Trailmater crew always prevails !!!!! Have a great weekend guys 🎉🎉
Thank you for watching!
You live in some of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen
Shawn, when you said you were going to use vice grips, to remove 8 lug nuts, I laughed out loud and said NFW.
You’re a Stud! No pun intended
Nice work guys. I love the channel 👍🇺🇸
Never a dull moment! You guys rock, thank you so much for sharing
I believe strongly in the philosophy of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but also "it won't break if it don't get used"
Great work guys, love the scenery shots. 😁
That yellow Jeep looks just like mine! I call mine Yellow Fever because someone told me my Jeep looked sic! Looks like you're having one of my days. My truck broke down, and Yellow Fever is marking its territory from the trans pan gasket. Guess it's that time of year.
Man, a guy wouldn't help you out...? Dude that's just wrong. I hope that he breaks down and YOU come to help him, that would be very poetic LOL
Shawn is amazing, even in an unfortunate situation, he looks around and appreciates the beauty of the scenery.
Vice grips for the win!
Older corvettes has starters with a cast iron nose piece, that stopped the high compression 383 from breaking them
Things happen Tisk tisk, thanks for showing us your country where you work and play
Well done men. Tough break on the JEEP fender....
@0.40 such beautiful country, wow.
Thanx !
You guys do a great job protecting the land whoever said u guys destroyed the land just ain’t got nothing better to do
Man it sicked that both Blue and the white truck have a break down on this recovery One with what sounded like a started issue and one with a Flat. When it rains it pours. You guys seems to be hitting a string of bad luck lately with your rigs both your personal rigs and the ones for the company. Really hope it turns around for you guys soon.
It’s crazy how those rocks looks. It’s like someone stacked them on top of each other it’s incredible. I’m in TN we don’t have anything like that. Smokey Mountains is close but I’ve been there so many times. One day I wanna make it to UT before I’m 40. Fingers crossed 🤞
Love the scenery, Thanks for that!
gotdayum shawn has some bazookas for arms, taking off lugnuts with some freaking vice grips
Legs of steel too!
You guys have the best office view ever!
Great video thanks for sharing
