Sarah E. Goode received a patent in 1885 for a cabinent bed. It folded /rolled , without "breaking" into a functional roll top desk. 25 years before the Murphy bed. Thought to have been born into slavery around 1855 but after the age of 5 grew up in Toledo, Ohio. Had a furniture store with her husband in Chicago who also was an inventor who obtained at least 1 patent.
Nice review, thanks. I like that you can move it to a different wall, other room, vs a Murphy bed that would be a struggle to move. I thought it looked like a double, but the website says the width of the unit is 64” and 60” is a Queen so 🤷♀️ . One downside for Canadians is it doesn’t deliver here - still cool though 🇨🇦
Yeah moving it around within a room would be pretty easy. From room to room a little more tough since I think it’s bigger than the door opening. But it would be easier than something full size for sure!
I’ve had two Murphy beds so love them. One in my own apt and one as a guest bed in lr. My good friends put me up regularly and saved me buttloads of money, as I was commuting to take an out of town 6 week course. However, the box while very stylish and convenient has two drawbacks. 1. No way to secure the movable bench part like ties or latches, 2) entirely too heavy and cumbersome mattress. Works well for your needs though and good for you. Thanks🙏🏻🧐😉
OMG! That is so cool! I like it as it doesn’t take up as much space a Murphy Bed. The only thing that I don’t care for is the end box not being latched down. Other than that very cool!
We are loving it so far. Agree it’s pricey but with all of my camera stuff in the office and a low ceiling fan it’s hard for a typical drop down Murphy bed. Also the 6in mattress + 10 year warranty is a great note over the cheaper ones.
I went to a store here in FL that sells these types of beds. They had a nice variety of size and style options. I will be considering one since I’m downsizing soon. Like you, I’ll have one room that will be multi-purpose so making the best use of the space is essential.
@@glasshalffull2930 I’ve been trying to find it and haven’t had any luck. It was a couple of years ago. I don’t remember the name of the store. I definitely know it was on Route 19 in either Pasco or Hernando County. I’m going to keep looking for myself as well. If I come across it I will let you know.
TH-cam recommended this because I’m a sucker for guys’ bare feet (the thumbnail pic lol) but I am very curious about murphy beds now. I have a small guest room that needs a way to save space and provide a bed for sleepovers. Thanks for the great detailed demo. He has nice feet btw. 😊
It may be more expensive, but a horizontal Murphy desk bed would be more convenient. You could work on the desk all day, then simply pull down the (already made) bed for guests. The desk surface swivels to become a base at the foot of the bed without disturbing your layout. Downside: one side of the bed would be against the wall.
Yeah that is definitely another option to consider! I will say, for the most part, I am happy with how the room turned out. The only thing better for my case would be having a dedicated guest bedroom ha.
I have a queen size one from the same company and it works perfectly in my 1 bedroom apartment……I can leave it open when guests are here and still use the living room furniture
I don’t have a video on it. I love it, it is “UPLIFT Standing Desk (V2) Desktop Style with Saman 1.5" Butcher Block size 72x30”. It’s wasn’t cheap, but I love it. I spend a lot of time at it. I would suggest though, while the wood looks really nice on mine, it is very soft, something as simple as dropping a pen 1ft high will leave a pen tip mark on the desk if it hits right. They have tons of wood options. Something to be mindful of.
@bobmirror7164 Depends on how long you wanna have guests. I have a futon, and it's great , guests end up only staying a couple of days ( I've even had a few leave early)👍
At nearly $2k it’s pretty expensive. Sofa beds are usually terrible, futons are going to depend largely on the quality of the frame. I regret getting rid of my full size futon and frame.
This is really a “to each their own case”. I agree a wall mount would be easier to drop down and could get an even more comfy mattress. For me I need this low footprint. I have the wall behind it with green screen and the rest of the walls sound proofed for filming my hiking channel and office space for the day job. Also with the room being small a drop down might hit my ceiling fan. This allows me to have my creative office space. I still have to work around it a bit, but not as difficult as it would be with a drop down. It’s a great question. Would love to hear others opinions on this as well. 👍🏻
@@DanReviewsStuff Very good response. Makes perfect sense. I can't do a wall-bed in my apartment because I have windows or doors on every wall. (One of the reasons I'm so critical of the tendency to stick too many windows in tiny houses.) I have a convertible sofa with a 3 section fold out mattress that I liked a lot. Why not get either a regular Murphy bed or a sofa bed? With a sofa bed, you have furniture that you can sit on every day. That cube just takes up valuable floor space. The other option of a Murphy bed is easier to use. None of the “assembly “ work every time you need to use it. The cube gets a thumbs down from me.
A regular one won’t work for me because of what I need to use the room for. It is also a small room and might hit ceiling fan. For a sofa bed I personally haven’t slept on a comfortable one so I didn’t really consider searching for one. The cube isn’t for every one but works great for me. I’m not worried about a few minutes to put it together since I only use it every other month or so. Thanks for your feedback! 😀
See your POV , but I have similar reqs and limitations as Dan, so this was a very informative video. I’ll consider this for a future purchase for a small room with odd angles and need to be able to keep the floor space clear for workouts.
