If I cast it at 30 feet, then it will move back towards me to within 20 feet? That could be useful! Other ideas: ~ Carry injured party member to safety. ~ Stack objects on it to use as cover. ~ Use it as a life raft.
Loool! I was building the perfect mount build (a centaur of course), and never though about adding tenser floating disk, but now it feels like a must have
The spell isnt terrible, but I would rather cast mage hand to pick things up, and catapult to push things places. But this spell is great when you got a baby elephant you need to store for later.
best way to use this for transport and cargo: Get about 30 Bags of Holding (no more than 33). Fill each bag to the brim( 500lb). Since the bag will feel no more than 15lb total, you can fit at max 33 bags of holding onto the disk. Therefore you maximize the weight limit to about 16,500 lbs. This does include people if they can fit into the bags and pump air into the bags, like with Gust or something.
I wish they would have given this spell a Strength score so it was obvious how much it could push. As a dm I have ruled that it will try and stay above anything so a player had a disk flying 20ft over his head while a ranger became a sniper from that platform. Recommend allowing this in games
The score would be like 33. Carrying Capacity is just Strength Score×15. So just divide 500 by 15. Pushing capacity is double thr Carrying Capacity, so this thing can push 1000 lbs.
Disk + lizardfolk(swimspeed) (Assuming it floats over water) Either you can put a container on it and go fishing, storing the fish on the disk. (Or hauling up sunken treasure) Or Become a water chariot for 1-3 ppl on the disk.
Crunching some numbers the self propelled machine when fully loaded has a max speed of 4 kilometers per hour, with only a kobold on board the speed is 60
I don't have the paper with me but I figured how much energy it takes to move 500 lbs at its described speed and assumed it was its max output as the spell fails if you go beyond it. Thinking back it being its probable that it may be off. I'll get back with you In a bit
Casted 30 feet away it moves Instantaneously towards the caster 10 feet to maintain 20 feet with 500 pounds of force. 500 lbs Instantaneously accelerated over 10’ is enough to *potentially cause an effect. What that effect is ... TBD by the DM.
Let’s use gravity for the speed, 10ft for distance & 500 for the mass. Rounding: Would move at ~8 miles per second w roughly 6674 joules of Energy. In unison w other held actions this would definitely do a thing
hang on... what if you cast it at the bottom of a long ramp with a height greater than 10 feet? does it just stop moving up the ramp after a certain height?
that doesn't work, the disk needs to hovering over sort of floor. That said, crumbling and/or unsteady bridges are trivial. You levitate, party hops onto disk and the party floats on the bridge without triggering any fall traps or dex saves as you never actually touch the bridge as you use it. Heck, just send a rope over and secure it to both sides, now you got a rope bridge. Now use plan stated above and boom, raw legal disk use.
oh wow, you could make a horseless carriage....the carriage has wheels, just get a steering mechanism and attach it to the wheels so you can turn them and cast the disc into the cart while you sit in front

Actually I just realized, that this spell is basically the starwars stroller the mandalorian used on baby yoda. Goblins beware, im here for the memes!
Hahah I see great things in your future!

Great uses my friend!

Errr... or anything else... that you know... exceeds 5 pounds

Haha Jeez! Very neat idea!

Interesting ideas! Although the disk can't handle more than a 10ft change in height, and it disappears if you put more than 500lbs on it.
You just gave me the foundation for a DnD hover car.
Haha It's what I'm here for!
A centar towing a ballista.

I'd be very curious on how you were able to figure it out haha!

Everyone love it this Spell, plus if more then 2 or 3 player can Cast it. Make so much easy move a Wagon around!
Very good point!

Yup, you could definitely use that to make an interesting argument!

Dm once use the car feature to make a hovertrain of wizards

You'd be okay, ramps would be a more gradual change so you should be fine!
wait so if i cast this 30 feet away and there's a creature between me and the disc, would it immediately head towards me and trip the creature?
Prepare a Gunpowder keg to put on that disk .w.
have it folow behind you on a fast mount and run pass a badguy and have the disk hit them....
Haha That would be awesome!
If you need to get a party across a large gap, do the ritual and have your party get on top while you levitate and float over.
Technically I don't think it would work that way
Or you could just carry them via Levitation
