I commented on one of the youtube shorts which compared k-beauty &styles from different countries in which I stated that I never saw any k-drma or idols without pale/fair skin which definitely restricts diversity and pure talents too which don't come in limelight due to such toxicity.Lots of support gained from different PPL and response but in end my comment is reported and removed 😂.Social media is helping to spread these toxic topics so we have to use social media as a defensive tool too.These kinds of topics needs to be addressed .
They just became economically developed. It takes awhile for the mentality to also progress. Even Japan is not that progressive yet in this regards and they have been a developed country for a lot longer than SK.

I married an American born Korean guy who was raised like Korean born ppl. It was shocking the amount of rudeness I received being Eskimo/Chinese, but looking more like Eskimo, the Koreans didn't know what a Eskimo was, so we're a bit more friendly until they found out I was married to a Ethnic Korean. His mother and father were wonderful. I have face tattoos that are usually covered by makeup. The first time my mother-in-law saw them, she was shocked, but when my husband explained they were cultural, she was very accepting of it. One day, I thought only family was home, so I didn't put makeup on yet. There was a friend of my MIL there, and she started to make really rude remarks about me and my tattoos, I started to apologize to MIL, but she told her friend that it wasn't her business and if she heard any gossip against me, there would be hell to pay. I lost my husband in 2020, and his mother has been a lifeline for me and our twins born a few hours after my loves death. She was shocked but so happy when I asked if they could come stay with her a few months a year because of my work. She now travels to and from Korea with my boys just so I can have them around me daily. There's not a selfish bone in her body. She was born and raised in Korea during the war.
Well general people don't do any plastic surgery. Only Kpop idols or celebrities do. If general people do surgery they only do double eyelid surgery.😅 Also many foreigners come to South Korea to do their surgery done so that's why we have a higher rate. As a Korean, I can tell you with confidence, that Koreans used to think Koreans were not pretty enough. We always thought we had inferior genes because the world told us so. It is not really about the looks. But it is about the economic status and worldwide recognition that make people think one race is better than the other. If South East Asian countries were the first world countries, the beauty standards would change. The same Western people who thought East Asians are genetically inferior and ugly now think kind of differently for that reason. SEAN countries are often associated with poverty, corruption and various crimes. East Asians are associated with technological development, tradition and wealth. It is easy to fool people when your country is relatively wealthy or in order. In reality, South East Asians, South Asians are more exotic and beautiful. And Koreans know how bland we might look. So there is really no reason to continue with this attacks on Koreans. Koreans didn't invade or colonized your countries. And all the idols you see on TH-cam are only 0.00001% of whole Korean population. So we don't look as good as those people in reality. And none of my friends or family members have gotten any plastic surgeries really.

I have the same experience in Korea, I am tall with white skin and my facial features are not typical southeast asian. I was walking on the street and a korean ajussi approached me and complimented my looks he said that I look so handsome. He was smiling at me and saying “waaaahhh good good” with thumbs up. Then he asked me where I’m from, I replied I’m from Philippines. His looks suddenly changed and said ohhhh. Then he tried to find faults on my appearance and walked away. 🤦🏻♂️ Some koreans are very racist especially the older generations. 😢

I remember that Filipino actor from Squid Game who got physically harassed in a bus. He has an interview here on youtube and he recalled a Korean elderly woman threw an entire cabbage to his face just because he was sitting in a bus. And no one even defended him. Then they get surprised students get bullied and all, when they themselves as adults cannot stand up to such violence against others. It’s more than just discrimination, sadly.

(Thank god she recorded this, and obviously, the husband was punished for this) South Korea is one of the least violent countries overall, and I haven't heard of one single foreigner who experienced physical violence in Korea. Some old women push you roughly when you're in their way, and one woman literally tapped my head several times with her bag when I was sitting and she couldn't find a seat. I’m Filipino and I’ve been to Indonesia and Thailand, and because we’re all Malays, I sometimes get mistaken for a local. People there don’t treat me any worse than my fellow Filipinos would. Now, a friend of mine who works in Korea says she’s experienced racism just on her daily commute.

Thailand and Indonesia are not Malay. In Thailand only the southern part is Malay, and Indonesia is only a small part or minority. This is the first time I've heard Filipinos call themselves Malay. in genetics Southeast Asia the archipelago is an Austronesian people.

Since in the country we use "Ethnic Malay" for the 0.2% of the population that are actually related to the ethnic group. This is why it may sound different when Filipinos use the term Malay as opposed to Indonesia and Malaysia.

I am a really tanned Filipino guy and during my few weeks of stay there, nobody really seemed to care. My girlfriend who is also lightly tanned got called pretty by a lot of "ajummas" though so I guess they are all not as bad as some of these comments say.

Things should change as globalization increases. Maybe it won’t happen in our lifetime, but it’d be great to see all the Asian neighbors genuinely getting along w/ one another. In the states, most of us stick together and help each other out since our cultural and family structures and values are pretty similar (despite our ethnic backgrounds). Yup. I went to korea with a friend. We are both very light skinned and i look chinese when people found out we’re from the Philippines, most of them weren’t very receptive. Japanese people are different, ive been there 4x but i have never met a racist Japanese. They’re all very friendly

I'm half Chinese and half Vietnamese and always get asked if I'm Korean by Koreans or Japanese by Japanese people. She's correct that Koreans are disappointed when you tell them that you are from any SE asian country but the best responses are from the Japanese. They just don't believe you and will insist that you have an ancestor that was Japanese lol.

There are many cases where restaurant owners refuse to pay full wages to employees who are international students in Korea just because they are Vietnamese. The reason they gave was that Southeast Asians deserve only that amount of money. It's true. Not all Koreans are like that, but there are also many people who have a superior personality, looking down on others.
Just recently came back from vietnam. And was told by my relatives. That chinese, koreans come to vietnam to marry. Like a good decent men come and marry a vietnamese women. And when the women follow them back to Korea/China. They let their other relatives marry the women. So the decent looking guy tricks the women and her family into thinking he's marrying her and when she's in their country she'll find out that the person she's actually marrying is someone else. Maybe an uncle, cousin, or whatever. Those people might have disabilities or something that they can't get a wife or no one wants to marry them. So they trick the girl to come to their country to marry them. And they will make the women work for them as free labour. And she has no way to escape cause they will confiscate her passport, documents and stuff. I was told this women started to behave so they relaxed their guard on her. And after a few years, she used the excuse of visiting family to go back to vietnam and ran away when she's back to vietnam.

normal in SEA especially if you're from a minority ethnic group. You'd speak your mother language, the majority ethnic group's language and English at least. A lot of schools offer language lessons like Chinese, Arabic (for places with a higher Islamic population ). Then add in hobbies Weebs learn Japanese and K-boos learn Korean.
In vietnam we learn English in Primary School , some Kindergarten teach English too so is very normal . Upto Junior high school and High school , student can choose some sub-subjects language like Korean , Chinese , Japanese. If that school don’t have sub-subjects like that they can find a place or tutor to learn different language if they want

I left the house to the uni, and I sat down alone for an hour, before I can compose myself and sent her a text saying that what she said is truly hurtful and that I will not take any more disrespect she spewed. She replied: "I'm only stating the truth, but I can see why the truth is hurtful for you." At that time, I was already battling severe depression, still I managed to complete my master's degree on time, receiving an academic medal as the graduate with the highest grade in my cohort. She was struggling so much with her study, but she was still an evil soul to everyone. We had another housemate from an African country, and the bitch argued to the landlord to kick that person out of the house or she will move out.

Visited Korea with my family. We’re the only Asians (we’re Viet. Ame) in our tour group, everyone else was white American or European. We had natural tan/yellow skin so I guess it was easier to pick us out from the rest. That and we’re short af lol. Let me tell you, the difference how we vs the other tourists was disgustingly shocking to us. They would get complimented while when my family went to talk to the the locals many dismissed us or gave us looks once we told them we were originally from Vietnam. Even visiting Japan wasn’t as polarizing (surprisingly). They were polite (at least to our face) and happy to practice their English on us lol. Couldn’t say the same about Korea. SE Asians are seen as “dirty” and not as sophisticated. Sad that many idolize racist and mediocre Kpop idols and think Kdramas are oh so romantic and perfect. I never want to go back to Korea after that exp.
People believe in many stereotypes regarding Japan and they think that it’s insanely racist. Most of those who think like that just haven’t traveled to South Korea. Japan is much better than society thinks
It’s insecurity. Japan isn’t insecure as a society - they don’t look down on Southeast Asians. They may prefer white people but ultimately if you’re not Japanese they’re egalitarian about their discrimination.
I know there are always exceptions, but I was raised Korean (though I’m half Japanese, half Chinese) and I have to say, Koreans are some of the vainest people I’ll ever know. They care a lot about face and are very firm nationalists. I remember being bullied by Korean “friends” who thought I was Korean because I was raised Korean, but found out I was not. I spoke their language and lived like them but the second they learned I’m not Korean by blood, their fangs came out. It was traumatizing. Only one of my many traumatizing stories that leave me wary of being close with Koreans. People don’t just develop negative views; they come from experience. Very hard to forgive and forget.

As a white person I only fully realized white privilege when I studied abroad in Korea, and lived in China; and compared it to the experiences of my latino, black, and sea frieds during the 1 year spans each there: and the difference was appaling. My latino and sea friends were basically ignored and treated as if they were invisible, with some people muttering awful things when they were near them. My black friend was treated like a circus to ask about Africa, gangs, people wanting to touch their hair, or moving completely away from them in public and saying nasty things to their face. Meanwhile people randomly walked up to me to talk to me in English, wanted to take pictures with me, got asked to "eat ramen" a lot, and got stared at, not in a bad or threateneing or disgusted way most of the time. I may have had a few bad experiences with not saying directly to my face things about "Russian women" (colloqualism for white prostitues) or wanting to ride the white horse; but the absolute erasure and lack of human respect or decency to at least mutter things under your breath for my friends had me reevaluating even American culture as a whole. Especially how white people seem to be put up on some hollywood capitalistic pedal and are idolized in KR/CHN/JP, with only a 1 in 100 who wont like them, but others (latinos, other Asians, Africans, African Americans) are treated as side shows, jokes, an "experience" or just ignored all together. Thats just my experience and I thought it was relevant to the conversation as this video seems to have reached the American side of TH-cam 🤷🏻♀️

To really highlight that Koreans dont treat SEA's badly because they're a foreigner, but because of where they come from and their skin color. Are you aware that comparing and contrasting two different experiences to highlight how one is obviously worse : is not bragging or saying that my experience was the standard?
I thought it was interesting you added the “Russian women” part. I’m white and relatively pale and many places I’ve traveled too, not just asia, men will come up to me and say stuff like “woah your so pale, are you Russian?” and I learned quickly that basically just means they think I’m a prostitute or just want sex based on how they act, but I’ve never heard any other women talk about this though. Is this a common phrase in Korea??

As a Korean person myself, I personally believe our innovations and proliferation plastic surgery has given my country a false sense of security. We've effectively tricked the world into thinking we are a beautiful people due to the popularization of kpop and their dramas/movies. But it's mostly fake.
It's weird indeed. I experienced something similar. A black girl in my college asked me if I'm chinese or korean, I think she watch lot of kpop and was influenced by it. She lost interest and was kind of disapointed when I told her I'm vietnamese. Like why being disapointed when they find out I'm south east asian and not east asian specifically?
Stop putting Koreans on pedestal. I’m a Korean but I have spent why whole life living abroad make me realise how close minded Koreans are . Sometimes it’s like they are living in their own dystopian world where fame , money and looks above anything else . In Thailand, it's almost impossible for thousands of Thais to stop worshipping K-pop idols here. Some infleuncers, musicians and actresses are so crazy about all things korean to the point they try to look, behave, dress like Koreans. and even learn to speak Korean. It's a sight to be seen.
You have to travel a lot to open your eyes. But not all korean can travel or living abroad, but their technology are advance enough to just browsing that there are a lot of other ethnicity around the world that is not as toxic as korean

This is so heart breaking. In Indonesia, there is a Korean guy went viral because he called our girl "Monkey". Also, i have been in relationship with this country man, it was my worst date. Other hand, i found good Korean tourist when i was internship at 4 star hotel. I think Korean needs to learn Diversity and learn to be humble. My Burmese friend visited Korea once. She’s half Chinese so she’s pale with SE Asian features. A Korean lady came up to her to ask where she was from and when she answered Myanmar. The lady frowned and said “I didn’t know people there look pretty like you” the lady literally insulted half of her ethnicity. The audacity of a fkin stranger. If you think about it, it’s funny because we’re born with double eyelids, big eyes and pretty noses(which is literally the features 1/3 of their population get surgeries for)

Korean here. Please please please share your culture on the internet. It doesn’t have to be big things. Technology allows younger generations raised in these environments to see differently and escape the notion that hate to a different group of people is alright. I'm Indonesian, and i have a cousin who go to korea for student exchange at Hanyang University. She's actually doing well because she's more like her mother's side which is pure blood Chinese so she's pale and people would consider her as pretty..then one time we're on the phone talking bcs i need her to help me to buy something at that time, when we're talking to each other obviously we use our local language and she got a thick javanese accent on her when speaking Bahasa and then out of nowhere i heard some old lady loud voice and i couldn't understand what she's saying but i know she's talking to my cousin bcs she's replying the old lady.. tbh i don't really know what happened back then but it quite chaotic with people here and there talking but what i know my cousin really angry but helpless so she just say sorry to me to hang-up the phone, then later she told me that the old lady says that she's too loud (we're talking like a normal person btw not to mention the store got a lot of people talking to each other too so its shouldn't be a problem) and then the old lady also told my cousin to get out of their country and other racist stuff. Still can't forget about it, at the time i really want to go to SK, but I'm too afraid bcs in the first place I'm not good looking... Oh also technically she could call the cops, but i heard it would be difficult bcs she's a foreigner, not to mention she's from SEA and people says that the police won't take them seriously and just shrug it off

They treated me the same way too.. and the rudest things I ever experienced in SK ‘oooo, from Indonesia? From SEA? Poor country’ ‘You can’t go inside (public bath/sauna) because you are too dark for us, you can make our water dirty’ Yeah, I have light brown skin tone. It happened many times when I visited SK in 2009, 2011, 2013.

They do think south east asians are ugly. We dont have fair skins as theirs. And some of us dont have high bridge nose that they like. Not to mention tall/skinny body that they desired.

I am Korean and I love South East Asian people 😊 I am traveling in Vietnam right now as a matter of fact and flying to Bali next week. Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand after that. So please don't think every South Korean is like that
I did a one year exchange student program in Korea back in University days, I want to say 99% of people I met were very nice and friendly and kind hearted, they helped me through some of my hard days, some people traveled to the Philippines also shared their positive views and love towards southeast countries. Occasionally some people dislikes Chinese or Japanese and they explained due to their own bad experiences or family memories but most keep an open mind. The only one time I was shouted to was when I had a date with a Korean person someone at another table said some bad words towards us he looked very upset but wouldn’t tell me exactly what the woman said so until this day it remains a mystery. Just want to say discrimination exists in all parts of the world, I’m sure every country has good people and nasty people, don’t let these things scare you off from traveling and exploring, if you are thinking about traveling, do make the trip and see things with your own eyes.

I commented on one of the youtube shorts which compared k-beauty &styles from different countries in which I stated that I never saw any k-drma or idols without pale/fair skin which definitely restricts diversity and pure talents too which don't come in limelight due to such toxicity.Lots of support gained from different PPL and response but in end my comment is reported and removed 😂.Social media is helping to spread these toxic topics so we have to use social media as a defensive tool too.These kinds of topics needs to be addressed .

I married an American born Korean guy who was raised like Korean born ppl. It was shocking the amount of rudeness I received being Eskimo/Chinese, but looking more like Eskimo, the Koreans didn't know what a Eskimo was, so we're a bit more friendly until they found out I was married to a Ethnic Korean. His mother and father were wonderful. I have face tattoos that are usually covered by makeup. The first time my mother-in-law saw them, she was shocked, but when my husband explained they were cultural, she was very accepting of it. One day, I thought only family was home, so I didn't put makeup on yet. There was a friend of my MIL there, and she started to make really rude remarks about me and my tattoos, I started to apologize to MIL, but she told her friend that it wasn't her business and if she heard any gossip against me, there would be hell to pay. I lost my husband in 2020, and his mother has been a lifeline for me and our twins born a few hours after my loves death. She was shocked but so happy when I asked if they could come stay with her a few months a year because of my work. She now travels to and from Korea with my boys just so I can have them around me daily. There's not a selfish bone in her body. She was born and raised in Korea during the war.

As a Korean, I can tell you with confidence, that Koreans used to think Koreans were not pretty enough. We always thought we had inferior genes because the world told us so. It is not really about the looks. But it is about the economic status and worldwide recognition that make people think one race is better than the other. If South East Asian countries were the first world countries, the beauty standards would change. The same Western people who thought East Asians are genetically inferior and ugly now think kind of differently for that reason. SEAN countries are often associated with poverty, corruption and various crimes. East Asians are associated with technological development, tradition and wealth. It is easy to fool people when your country is relatively wealthy or in order. In reality, South East Asians, South Asians are more exotic and beautiful. And Koreans know how bland we might look. So there is really no reason to continue with this attacks on Koreans. Koreans didn't invade or colonized your countries. And all the idols you see on TH-cam are only 0.00001% of whole Korean population. So we don't look as good as those people in reality. And none of my friends or family members have gotten any plastic surgeries really.

I have the same experience in Korea, I am tall with white skin and my facial features are not typical southeast asian. I was walking on the street and a korean ajussi approached me and complimented my looks he said that I look so handsome. He was smiling at me and saying “waaaahhh good good” with thumbs up. Then he asked me where I’m from, I replied I’m from Philippines. His looks suddenly changed and said ohhhh. Then he tried to find faults on my appearance and walked away. 🤦🏻♂️ Some koreans are very racist especially the older generations. 😢

I remember that Filipino actor from Squid Game who got physically harassed in a bus. South Korea is one of the least violent countries overall, and I haven't heard of one single foreigner who experienced physical violence in Korea.
However I can slightly related to rude old people in public transport. Some old women push you roughly when you're in their way, and one woman literally tapped my head several times with her bag when I was sitting and she couldn't find a seat. And again, I am a South Korean who is very much South-Korean looking.

I’m Filipino and I’ve been to Indonesia and Thailand, and because we’re all Malays, I sometimes get mistaken for a local. People there don’t treat me any worse than my fellow Filipinos would.
Now, a friend of mine who works in Korea says she’s experienced racism just on her daily commute.
Meanwhile on the other hand the Japanese are completely opposite. They're cool with the filipinos, they even marry them going both ways M/F, F/M. Only as long as you assimilate the best you can.
Thailand and Indonesia are not Malay. In Thailand only the southern part is Malay, and Indonesia is only a small part or minority. This is the first time I've heard Filipinos call themselves Malay. in genetics Southeast Asia the archipelago is an Austronesian people.

I am a really tanned Filipino guy and during my few weeks of stay there, nobody really seemed to care. My girlfriend who is also lightly tanned got called pretty by a lot of "ajummas" though so I guess they are all not as bad as some of these comments say.

I’m Korean and I can say this is true. Lots of people here are close minded and stereotypical. Racism is real here yet people don’t even seem to realize it. I feel so ashamed and sorry for people, especially South East Asian, go through such experiences. I want to apologize instead. In the states, most of us stick together and help each other out since our cultural and family structures and values are pretty similar (despite our ethnic backgrounds). Just recently came back from vietnam. And was told by my relatives. That chinese, koreans come to vietnam to marry. Like a good decent men come and marry a vietnamese women. And when the women follow them back to Korea/China. They let their other relatives marry the women. So the decent looking guy tricks the women and her family into thinking he's marrying her and when she's in their country she'll find out that the person she's actually marrying is someone else. Maybe an uncle, cousin, or whatever. Those people might have disabilities or something that they can't get a wife or no one wants to marry them. So they trick the girl to come to their country to marry them. And they will make the women work for them as free labour. And she has no way to escape cause they will confiscate her passport, documents and stuff.
I was told this women started to behave so they relaxed their guard on her. And after a few years, she used the excuse of visiting family to go back to vietnam and ran away when she's back to vietnam.

A lot of schools offer language lessons like Chinese, Arabic (for places with a higher Islamic population ).
Then add in hobbies Weebs learn Japanese and K-boos learn Korean.
In vietnam we learn English in Primary School , some Kindergarten teach English too so is very normal . Upto Junior high school and High school , student can choose some sub-subjects language like Korean , Chinese , Japanese. If that school don’t have sub-subjects like that they can find a place or tutor to learn different language if they want

At that time, I was already battling severe depression, still I managed to complete my master's degree on time, receiving an academic medal as the graduate with the highest grade in my cohort. Visited Korea with my family. We’re the only Asians (we’re Viet. Ame) in our tour group, everyone else was white American or European. We had natural tan/yellow skin so I guess it was easier to pick us out from the rest. That and we’re short af lol. Let me tell you, the difference how we vs the other tourists was disgustingly shocking to us. They would get complimented while when my family went to talk to the the locals many dismissed us or gave us looks once we told them we were originally from Vietnam. Even visiting Japan wasn’t as polarizing (surprisingly). They were polite (at least to our face) and happy to practice their English on us lol. Couldn’t say the same about Korea. SE Asians are seen as “dirty” and not as sophisticated. Sad that many idolize racist and mediocre Kpop idols and think Kdramas are oh so romantic and perfect. I never want to go back to Korea after that exp.

I know there are always exceptions, but I was raised Korean (though I’m half Japanese, half Chinese) and I have to say, Koreans are some of the vainest people I’ll ever know. They care a lot about face and are very firm nationalists. I remember being bullied by Korean “friends” who thought I was Korean because I was raised Korean, but found out I was not. I spoke their language and lived like them but the second they learned I’m not Korean by blood, their fangs came out. It was traumatizing. Only one of my many traumatizing stories that leave me wary of being close with Koreans. People don’t just develop negative views; they come from experience. Very hard to forgive and forget.

As a white person I only fully realized white privilege when I studied abroad in Korea, and lived in China; and compared it to the experiences of my latino, black, and sea frieds during the 1 year spans each there: and the difference was appaling. My latino and sea friends were basically ignored and treated as if they were invisible, with some people muttering awful things when they were near them.
My black friend was treated like a circus to ask about Africa, gangs, people wanting to touch their hair, or moving completely away from them in public and saying nasty things to their face. Meanwhile people randomly walked up to me to talk to me in English, wanted to take pictures with me, got asked to "eat ramen" a lot, and got stared at, not in a bad or threateneing or disgusted way most of the time.
I may have had a few bad experiences with not saying directly to my face things about "Russian women" (colloqualism for white prostitues) or wanting to ride the white horse; but the absolute erasure and lack of human respect or decency to at least mutter things under your breath for my friends had me reevaluating even American culture as a whole. Especially how white people seem to be put up on some hollywood capitalistic pedal and are idolized in KR/CHN/JP, with only a 1 in 100 who wont like them, but others (latinos, other Asians, Africans, African Americans) are treated as side shows, jokes, an "experience" or just ignored all together.
Thats just my experience and I thought it was relevant to the conversation as this video seems to have reached the American side of TH-cam 🤷🏻♀️

I thought it was interesting you added the “Russian women” part. I’m white and relatively pale and many places I’ve traveled too, not just asia, men will come up to me and say stuff like “woah your so pale, are you Russian?” and I learned quickly that basically just means they think I’m a prostitute or just want sex based on how they act, but I’ve never heard any other women talk about this though. Is this a common phrase in Korea??

As a Korean person myself, I personally believe our innovations and proliferation plastic surgery has given my country a false sense of security. We've effectively tricked the world into thinking we are a beautiful people due to the popularization of kpop and their dramas/movies. But it's mostly fake.
It's weird indeed. I experienced something similar. A black girl in my college asked me if I'm chinese or korean, I think she watch lot of kpop and was influenced by it. She lost interest and was kind of disapointed when I told her I'm vietnamese.

In Thailand, it's almost impossible for thousands of Thais to stop worshipping K-pop idols here. Some infleuncers, musicians and actresses are so crazy about all things korean to the point they try to look, behave, dress like Koreans. and even learn to speak Korean. It's a sight to be seen.

My Burmese friend visited Korea once. She’s half Chinese so she’s pale with SE Asian features. A Korean lady came up to her to ask where she was from and when she answered Myanmar. The lady frowned and said “I didn’t know people there look pretty like you” the lady literally insulted half of her ethnicity. The audacity of a fkin stranger. If you think about it, it’s funny because we’re born with double eyelids, big eyes and pretty noses(which is literally the features 1/3 of their population get surgeries for)

I'm Indonesian, and i have a cousin who go to korea for student exchange at Hanyang University. She's actually doing well because she's more like her mother's side which is pure blood Chinese so she's pale and people would consider her as pretty..then one time we're on the phone talking bcs i need her to help me to buy something at that time, when we're talking to each other obviously we use our local language and she got a thick javanese accent on her when speaking Bahasa and then out of nowhere i heard some old lady loud voice and i couldn't understand what she's saying but i know she's talking to my cousin bcs she's replying the old lady.. tbh i don't really know what happened back then but it quite chaotic with people here and there talking but what i know my cousin really angry but helpless so she just say sorry to me to hang-up the phone, then later she told me that the old lady says that she's too loud (we're talking like a normal person btw not to mention the store got a lot of people talking to each other too so its shouldn't be a problem) and then the old lady also told my cousin to get out of their country and other racist stuff. Still can't forget about it, at the time i really want to go to SK, but I'm too afraid bcs in the first place I'm not good looking...
Oh also technically she could call the cops, but i heard it would be difficult bcs she's a foreigner, not to mention she's from SEA and people says that the police won't take them seriously and just shrug it off

I did a one year exchange student program in Korea back in University days, I want to say 99% of people I met were very nice and friendly and kind hearted, they helped me through some of my hard days, some people traveled to the Philippines also shared their positive views and love towards southeast countries. Occasionally some people dislikes Chinese or Japanese and they explained due to their own bad experiences or family memories but most keep an open mind. The only one time I was shouted to was when I had a date with a Korean person someone at another table said some bad words towards us he looked very upset but wouldn’t tell me exactly what the woman said so until this day it remains a mystery.
Just want to say discrimination exists in all parts of the world, I’m sure every country has good people and nasty people, don’t let these things scare you off from traveling and exploring, if you are thinking about traveling, do make the trip and see things with your own eyes.
