We've had multiple instances here in the Metro-Detroit area of teams of people stealing vehicles at night. One person will be tasked with entry of the vehicle while the other person stands guard with a weapon pointed at the homeowners door. Two of the videos I saw they were armed with AR pistols ready to kill anyone who came outside to confront them. One person has been killed and there have been a few other shootings related to this. Be safe and be vigilant guys.
I'm in Flint, I haven't heard about this in the news or anything. Can you post a link to the videos here? I'm interested in seeing them, because I'm a firearms instructor, and I talk about things like this possibly happening.

Yeah the car thefts here are insne but thats what happens when being a criminal is rewareded and vehilcle manufactures fail at making a sercure system for the vehicle keys.
Well more on you better have a camera so you can know what's outside then you do the same

Excellent video. Personally, I would stay inside my house with my rifle and police on the phone. If the thief or thieves attempt to break in, they will be met with extreme violence. Personally, I'm not even going to remotely risk my freedom over petty possessions! I'll let the police handle that. YOU CAN ALWAYS BUY BACK WHAT WAS STOLEN, YOU CAN'T BUY BACK LOST TIME WITH YOUR LOVED ONES! Carry on, gents. God bless!

Excellent post. The bad guy could also have an accomplice. Without someone to watch your 6 you could be in trouble.
I agree with what you said - "You can't buy back lost time with your loved ones" - the problem is that you didn't connect all the dots. The time you spent away from your loved ones while you worked to earn the money to buy that stuff, can't be bought back either! That "stuff" isn't just stuff. It's your most valuable resource. You felt that it was important enough to sacrifice your limited time here on earth to earn and buy that stuff. People who steal your stuff ARE stealing your time; and as you rightly said, it can't be replaced. Protecting your stuff IS also protecting your time.
And that's exactly why there are so many criminals - there are no real consequences ... for them heh

In Puerto Rico, we passed the Castle Law doctrine/ Stand your ground. Wich change everything here.
It’s sad that in some jurisdictions you cannot do anything until suspect enters your home by x amount of feet, they garnish a weapon of some sort and also attempt to attack you before you can defend yourself without going to prison. In addition you might have to waste a ton of money on attorneys should it go to court. Since many suspects are catch and release they are suing victims and winning which is appalling. The justice system is breaking down with all the “paid off” DA’s and judges. Thanks for the video.
Not all property can be replaced, and all property was acquired by giving away a certain amount of life, which is a finite thing for everybody. Deadly force to protect property should be allowed everywhere, period. It should be up to the individual to decide if taking a life, which must not bectaken lightly, it's appropriate for the specific circumstances.

You think that’s bad, there are a lot of states that say you have a duty to run away if someone is breaking into your home! Not just liberal states either, Arkansas and Missouri are two examples of dumb states

That's the vast majority of states actually. Texas is one of a select few states that allow you to use deadly force or the threat of deadly force to protect property. And while most states recognize the right of people to defend themselves, you're almost never legally permitted to respond with deadly force or the threat of deadly force to any situation where your life isn't being imminently threatened.
LOVED this!!! And loved the honesty ; “if it’s me in my circumstance and noones around and no phone, he’s gone end up in the hospital.” Hey , it’s deserved and a travesty that some states you literally have to watch someone walk away with your property and can’t do $hit!

The sad truth is that in 99% of all robbery cases your legal fees for having to go to court will easily exceed the value of the property stolen. Better to call the police and stay inside. It really is not worth actively trying to stop the theft.

People say "Ego driven" like it's a bad thing. It's the legal consequences that you're really trying to avoid. If you let people step on you, you'll just keep having it happen.
If robbers knew they were going to probably die from stealing, and the law wasn't going to protect them, guess what would happen.
You talk about psychological protection. Well guess what. The psychological protection of my family does include a dead robber.
I just want to be sure that if the bad guys or the crazies come my way that I can make the best decision possible to keep them away from me. I do not want to stop a beating heart. If I have no choice but to discharge my firearm I want to know that beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am doing the right thing. Thank you for the knowledge and experience that you share with us. Thank you for showing us what to do when do it and how to do it. I hope and pray no harm comes to any one. Stay safe

People are unpredictable and that may be the most terrifying aspect of an encounter like this. Even though you have a deadly weapon pointed at them, they may still charge and if we choke in that moment they could aquire the weapon and that'll be the end of it. I hope to never have to shoot someone but if it's me/my family or them there won't be a a second thought. I'm in an anti-2A state and if I have to answer for my choices then so be it. Criminals are the ones who make the choice to risk their lives for meaningless possessions
@@franklinstower6721 I understand and I fully respect your decision making process. Like you said, fight or flight we understand. However the third one I've learned is what you said and that is if someone freezes up that could give the bad guy just the opportunity he needs to cause bodily harm or worse. Sort of like the in the headlights thing.
And that is what we are aiming for. Simply education to think about so you can make the best decision for you and your family.

I had a gun instructor that was a prison guard for many years and he taught us to move the way you did when the captive takes a sneak peek to locate your position and to keep them from turning around as you did. He said it is what they do to prepare for an attack on you. Thank you for your videos and your service.

I had a friend, a police officer who lived on a boat in the Miami River, same marina I was living at, "John the cop" John's story (1980's), he was in a bar with his girl when a dude comes in gun drawn to rob the till, not the customers just the cash register. As this is going down, John's girls whispers, "John do something your a cop", he quietly shushes her. After the thief takes the cash as he is preparing to exit, a second perp at the back of the bar shows a sawed off shot gun, yelling out some crap like "don't move, don't reach for the phone". Moral to John's story, they have a plan you are already in it, your just an actor in their play. Watch out. Your are talking about going after a; thinking, social being(s) that may bag you as your trying to bag him or them. Love your situational awareness point, did not notice water tank on initial view. There are a lot of moving parts and potential complications, involving yourself, family the criminal and innocents bystanders. Very powerful statement on your part about "ego and pride". I had a couple of incidents at the Marina, personally and I got away with one mistake on the first incident. Looking back I learned and applies that to the second and third. One of the most powerful statement you made, check your "ego and pride" at the door. Trying to plan ahead as I assess myself, training and or lack their of, surroundings, experience etc. I have to think about how far I need to go. Your last statement is the most powerful, "responsibility to protect everybody, physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially", shows that to be a big "type A" alpha male takes more than toughness, courage and training, it takes brains, thoughtfulness. When you were talking about the idea that if you go down you've giving them access to your family reminds me of a lesson my BJJ coach taught me when I was younger.
He said, "You and your wife stop on the sidewalk outside of a bar to talk to a friend on the way to your truck and a big guy outside the bar gropes your wife. What do you do?
I said fight him. He asked if I knew if the guy was armed, if he had friends, if my wife would be safer. It was a difficult pill to swallow, that my ego would have made me ignore the dangers that could place her in more danger, and completely ignore getting her to the the truck. My coach ran the same scenario if he did vs didn't let go of her. It was a good lesson to think about.
Scenario based training is something most people neglect and so needed.

Great video, one more thing… this happened to me several years ago here in Indiana. I held someone at gunpoint at my home (back patio) until the police arrived. In the very first part of the video when you’re on your phone telling the 911 operator to send an officer, you said that you actually had someone held at gunpoint on your property. When the police finally arrived at my home and the smoke cleared and they had the guy in handcuffs and we were doing the report, the officer said “ you did everything you should have, and if he completely entered your home you had the right to defend yourself and take him down”. (the guy was on meth trying to break in my home at three in the morning through the back windows ) However, he then went on to say “next time if you are ever on a 911 call like this do not say you have a firearm”, he said “it’s fine that you did, but now I have to see the firearm, log it into the report with the serial number, etc., since a firearm was mentioned over the 911 call”. So I went back into the home with the officer he sat down, inspected it and logged into the police report. he was explaining that if it wasn’t mentioned over the 911 calls, they would not have to have put it in the report. To most people I don’t think this would matter much and I think a lot of people would want the officers to know they were armed. I just found it very interesting, and it was something I remembered for many years in case it happens again.

I’m always very hesitant to even take the shot when it comes to home invasion and burglary just because of the legal mess that immediately follows. It won’t stop me from doing what needs to be done, but I would always advise people know the law and how it will be applied to them.
The problem is that Gunners think that way don't think that way you have someone invading your home it's time to react not saying oh crap what will happen to me after I pulled the trigger
@@OU812NVME Well, I know this is anecdotal, but I know a guy who was almost run over by a career felon who stole his daughter’s truck and tried robbing my buddy. My friend responded with his carry pistol in the state of Missouri and they convicted him of felony brandishing. Even though my buddy had reasonable fear for his life and the other guy was trying to kill him, the state got a felony conviction and now he can’t own firearms anymore. So, even if you are not thinking about the consequences later, that does not mean there won’t be some corrupt prosecutor who is going to try ruining your life.
I agree. It is a serious burden that should not be taken lightly.

This is all helpful, Sir. Thank you for sharing. I've been faced with this real scenario three times in recent years. I've chosen to confront them, tool in hand. Living solo, I always make sure the phone is in a pocket. My town's responders have been quick to show up, and we've had no misunderstandings about anything - related to tools or the way I aggressively handled my situation. Which I am so thankful for. It's truly a blessing to have good law enforcement.

In California we don't have the right to protect property but citizens can attempt to make a citizen's arrest on a suspect actively committing a burglary and if the suspect resist or becomes combative you have the right to defend yourself at that point. You don't have to just let them walk away with your property
Yeah but in californication you are limited to what type of firearm you may own and if you are allowed to use it in this situation.

I like that you didn’t put them on his belly. Harder to see what someone is doing on the ground, easier for someone to roll around on their back rather than turn off their knees.
You were pretty exposed out there in the middle of the yard like that. I have a detached garage about the same distance from my house as your shed & my plan, if I see someone out there, is to go out the front door & check both sides of the house for "lookouts" then head back that direction. Not knocking your plan, just sharing mine.
That’s why I keep distance and use a rifle. No cover for me unless it’s from inside.
In my state, NC, you are not allowed to use a firearm to prevent property theft as you pointed out. Thank you for a great video.

Add lock the door! It protects your family and prevents anyone else from getting into your house. That could cause many other problems. Alway close and lock the door! Very well done. Your videos are spot on.

You can't buy back the sense of safeness and sleeping well after someone robs you.
If you forger your phone have him tread water in the pool ---gives you 30 seconds in the house
It is a shame that "We the people" have allowed criminals to have more rights than homeowners. I have No Trespassing signs all over my fenced in farm. Michigan law requires that trespassers be warned by police and requested to leave. If they refuse then they can be arrested. It took an hour and a half for a Sheriffs response to the last trespassing incident. The guy didn't wait around for a Deputy.

I would also suggest to check to see if your state has a stand your ground law. Make sure you read and understand when you are able to use deadly force. For example in Texas you can use deadly force from dusk till dawn. It also helps if you have firearm legal protection.

Glad that you don't sugarcoat things and actually give practical advice. Sometimes you do just need to suck it up and let the bad guy get away, whether due to legal or practical reasons (too risky to confront). Some may criticize me for it, but if I see someone jacking my car in the middle of the night I'm just calling the cops and reporting it. Not about to stick my neck out for something that's covered by my insurance I pay for.

I would have called the person out of the shed as well. If he had a phone he could have called maybe his buddy that was in a getaway car and could have changed the whole situation. I'm curious why didn't you have him cross his legs? The only reason I would have told him to do that is it just would have given you another indication and a brief second of his indications if he would have wanted to run at you or away from you. The haters need to know that as a seal you are one of the most highly trained people on the planet. Are you going to get something, maybe not exactly right possibly. But like I said in another comment. I was in the military for around 15 years before being medically discharged for injuries I sustained. Your videos are very well thought and informative. WA state has the stand your ground/ Castle law…..just recently my neighbor had a failed home invasion (she was not home but had cameras recording and called PD at 9:30am) she asked if she was home could she (protect) herself…
They told her yes but asked if she has No Trespassing signage…she did not but now has…best to get your signs up to further your legalities so to speak…I have had mine up for years….
I scrolled through the first few comments to see if anyone said this. I did not find it, so I will throw in my two cents. I have one addendum to your briefing. If one makes the decision to remain in the house and defend, take pictures of the perpetrator if you can. That way if the thief runs off, you do not have to rely strictly on memory to describe them for the police report. It also reduces the possibility of denial if the police catches them.
Make sure you check your local and state laws to see if threatened lethal force is allowed to protect property. In Florida it is NOT allowed unless that property is inhabited (such as a person being in a car that's about to be stolen). Benefit of having most self defense insurances is being able to call and speak to a lawyer and inquire about your state and local laws from a professional at no additional expense.

Love your videos. Great teaching and tips. So hard here is Australia as we come under laws like the one you mentioned. We are not allowed to engage, chase, or use deadly force, and the force continuum law comes into play. Our guns must be locked in safe without bolts, actions broken, etc, bolts in another separate locked place and ammunition in another safe. And if someone comes in and you happen to get your weapon, you must run or lock yourself in a room and jump out windows if possible and not engage, but notify them you have a gun. You must allow them to leave with whatever they have. Even if they attack your family and run, you become the aggressor if you chase and will get charged.
These rules apply in the security industry here , where I also work as an Ops Manager within the company.
Our criminal activity and innocent parties' injuries are growing explanacially because of this. 😮💨
This is why I have a pair of hinged handcuffs as part of my edc. Then again my edc is almost a law enforcement duty rig.

Goes back to the old adage, "If you can't stand up, you can't hurt me". Not always completely applicable, but, more often than not, reasonable.
First rule is always be sure to wear some type of tactical trucker cap with some type of pro American patch 24/7. That shows you mean business.

Your videos are very informative. Their are states that you will go to prison if you go outside and things go south because they will say that you escalated the situation because you didn't call the police and stay in your house.

When they do proceed very carefully if you give chase.
Remember what you have at risk lawfully and what you are leaving behind unprotected.

You have any vids about your combat experiences? I orig signed up for SF, but the BS of training where I was treated as the enemy made me settle for the 82nd. So glad I signed up though! Got to go to Panama and the Sinai. Biggest regret of my life is never seeing combat. To die for others is the highest honor, whether civilian or military.

RIGHT ? Here in NJ we had a case where a homeowner held a invader at gunpoint until the cops arrived.
One, he was charged with brandishing, aggravated assault, and unlawful restraint .
Two, the perp also filed a lawsuit against him.

very good video - very sound and good tactical advice- sounds a lot like the training give to me by my sgt whom served in Vietnam
The only issue is no cover or concealment - standing out in the open like that making yourself a target - a lot of military guys / girls fight in the open but always safer with cover and it gives you much better time (reaction time) to think about firing or not to since you have cover
Though Ca has the castle doctrine , you have to prove that you've exhausted every avenue of retreat no matter how much harm is being intended towards the safety of yourself and your family !
I’m not sure if the is has been addressed, but as a former military police officer, I would suggest that if you have the individual cross their feet, that you immediately ask them to cross their feet again, because when the intruder crosses their feet it will be in a comfortable position for them, which might give them an opportunity to still get up and make a move. When they cross their feet the second time, it will be in a position that they are not comfortable with and will keep them more effectively off balance. Just my humble two cents to add another element in favor of the homeowner.

Great advice, I know if law enforcement is on the way important that they know what you look like so they know who you are and not mistaken you for the perpetrator.

Definitely consult with a lawyer and know your state laws. In Ohio, given some recent past situations, I would likely go to jail in this situation. Sure, my family is safe at the moment, but not from other legal routes. Granted, I don't fully believe in the protection of property, so I will always say life is greater than property. 90% of the tine at least.
Edit: Phenomenal video and walk-through of tactics and reasoning. I loved the water tank back stop idea.
When ever possible stay inside and if needed defend your home, whatever some thief can walk off with it isn't worth what happens if you leave cover and end up shooting someone who isn't a threat to you or family members, retreat until you can't and then do what is necessary
I'd stay in the house too, that backyard looks too open. If they had an armed watch it's like flipping a coin the moment you step through that door. That is unless you got cameras to check first.

As pointed out in the video, just because one has the legal right to confront someone stealing property, it may not be in one’s best interest to do so. To me, going out and doing this opens up so many possible things that could go wrong that I myself wouldn’t do it. I would stay indoors, ready to defend myself and my family, observe, and call the cops. Too many people on drugs, armed, willing to shoot you first. Exposing yourself out in the open to confront someone in your shed… I wouldn’t do it.
