Sheesh man... Blast from the past when the 500 first came out. I shot this video at the AMA convention 2008. Hard to belive it's been 3 years since the 500 came out. I guess the Dog liked it enough to put it on youtube :) Jason Krauss is no longer in the hobby as much as he use to be but man... even in 2011 his flyign rocks!
Smooth and flowing, one thing into another. This slower paced 3D I really like. One stunt flows into the next and always in complete control. And the confines of a smallish gym, just makes it all the more impressive. Boy have I got work to do.
Jason has a finesse that in my opinion no other pilot has, this comes from years of flying. Most pilots "peck" at the ground during there flight and Jason will stay on the ground and do any maneuver that takes most more altitude to complete. On top of that he is just so smooth on every vital control of the helicopter. He is one of the true veterans of RC Helicopter flight.
YEAH! I love watching this video. It still amazes me watching a bird the size of the 500 fly indoors in such a small space and so beautifully as well. I finally learned how to do the "walk the Dog" maneuver. It's really not as hard as it seems once you figure it out with the right amount of collective and cyclic inputs at the right times. Anyway, great stuff.

@Wrighto17 He can flip the angle of the blades for the helicopter. Like a fan the blades are angeld to either push air up or down. so if he switches the helicopter goes up or down.
Have watched some video's of guys flying 3d, but not as good as this. Incredible control! I'm getting myself a Honey Bee CP3 today. To start off with :-)
Doing 3d at "slow-mo" speeds is honestly harder than moving around quickly. You have to be that much more precise on collective and you really have to play up the heli's inertia. Always a fun challenge to try and control that thing like a hummingbird.
The Trex 500 is about the best rc helicopter out today. Yea, its not the biggest, most expensive, blingiest, but damn its cheap to fly, can do any manuever the most expensive rc heli can do, damn just the best.

Part of the reason is probably because it's inside with a bunch of spectators. A little dangerous to get all crazy in such close quarters. I have much respect for people who can fly like this but to do it in front of a crowd takes a true master.
I've been trying this in the sim. I can almost walk the dog with a 600 in the sim. The smaller the heli the harder it seems. It would take a year more of practice for me to attempt it with my real heli (450). Jason also did the wall landing too, didn't he? That's WAY harder than walking the dog. But like all 3D, and whatever you'd call this king of thing, it's all about getting the timing down, and not having to think about it.
there was some kid a while back that use to fly just like jason. where did he go? and what was his name? cause one day i saw him and jason fly at their field and he looked like he could show this guy up any day. it was a couple of years ago. please let me know so i can find that kid.
I'm not cocky but I have done my homework and I can easily put my money where my mouth is. I have flown the CPP hundreads of times and never crashed it or any other aircraft for that matter. The CPP happens to be the hardest heli in the world to fly simply because it is a micro. You have the right to believe what you want, Happy flying....
Yeah i know the feeling lol, the thing is there is no guarantee that i will ever be able to fly like this no matter how much i practise. Im pretty sure its only a small % of people that could ever attain these awesome skills ;/ Nice Vid!
Yeah i have Realflight 4.5 and i play on it like crazy, i just meant that i think everybody has a level they can reach and it differs from person to person. Thats why some people can not fly helicopters at all, no matter how hard they try they cant hover it for a minute without a crash and never ever will even if they went on the sim non stop for a year lol and other people at the other extreme can do this sort of stuff :D I hope i get closer to this extreme lol

@mxkristian they should be peaking at 4.2 volts per cell which is 25.2 volts. they rate them at 3.7 volts per cell which is about as low as you want to have to discharged.
No his name was Bon or something like that. He was younger then Jason and they flew at the same field. He was the next badass even ask Alan. He was getting nervous how fast he was learnig to fly. I think he said it took him less then 2 years to get to Jasons and Alans level no joke. Anyways he quit because of Jason for some reason.
@ddrlankyj 6s =22,2v ,3s 11,1v etc its the amount of c the pack has that makes it more powerfull ,,while the mah says the amount it can carry a higher mah number usually improves performance slightly ,while a higher c rating improves the performance drasticly
In my opinion the difference in price between the 500 and the 450 is to big to justify the 500 as a superior option to the 450 to beginners.. Otherwise this would definately be my next helicopter. :)
Great demo but I wonder how organizations such as the one that sponsored this event or the AMA can approve of this with spectators just sitting literally feet in front of this heli with no protection what so ever. One small mechanical failure and we hear about this in the news.
how come its stock? stock as in RTF? is theres such a thing as a stock rtf trex? i know you have to puts servos and electronics on it. thats not stock. if you will put your fave electronics

@mxkristian 6s is a higher voltage pack. 5s lipos are 21 volts fully charged and 6s lipos are 25.2

@bassax7045 that's not what he was asking. I'm aware higher C ratings will result in lower voltage drop under load which gives you more power.

I wanna see him take the HHG off ( Heading Hold Gyro ) and see how he can do stunts, I bet he couldn't. A HHG does 90% of the dirty work.
