That took me back to my first Trex 500 (self-built with Beastx) many years ago. Now aged 77 I’m afraid a shaky thumb or two could spell disaster for someone, so I sold or passed on all my gear about 2 years ago. I first spotted your vlog when browsing TH-cam on my iPad, keeping the volume to zero - then played it later on my tv, hearing a slightly harsher / more aggressive beat from the motor … and a familiar Welsh accent. I’m a Neath guy and would have loved to have had a co-flyer like you, all those years ago. Good for you sir 👍.
Aww David shame you had to let your gear go!! But I know what you mean about shaky thumbs!! I'm finding it harder as I get older to fly the Helies!! Thanks for watching and thanks for the great comment 😀👍
Lots of very intensive labor, and Maiden flight evaluation and tweaking, well done! It's big and sounds like the head speed is fast. You sure will have fun getting intimately acquainted with that big Copter! 👊👊!
Thanks Mark, the biggest problem this morning was I messed up the throttle curve!! Realised after what was wrong!! Thanks for watching and commenting Mark 😀👍
Hi Ian…. Congratulations!! Fantastic maiden flight of a mega heli !! Such a monster and really fantastic to see your superb build efforts take to the sky today. I know there are some areas you want to tune and adjust but I would celebrate todays flight as a success … I have thoroughly enjoyed this series of films on your wonderful build and now todays maiden ….. Lovely filming by Cheryl as well… Thank you … Michael
Thanks Michael, I had a couple of silly things!! Checking my radio at home I realised my throttle curve was wrong!! And also I had my main blades slightly to loose which was causing the Heli to wobble on start up!! But I will take the maiden flight and build series as a big positive step!! Thanks for watching and commenting Michael 😀👍
@@IansRCExploits I meant to say .. when I was real flying a friend had a Robinson R44 and at blade start up you applied 5% negative lift to avoid wind lift and push the heli into the ground .. not saying to do that with a model but it’s interesting !!! 😊
Hi Ian and Cheryl ! What a beast this T-Rex is, you can hear the power that the motor is generating to spin the blades which are cutting so nicely through the air, great intro and maiden Ian, thanks for sharing 😀👍🏻
@@IansRCExploits no Sir, I am just busy with work,a lot of driving around up at the new shop that I am at, and I am just totally exhausted when I come home from work,I am thinking of downloading it though to use as a future reference, is this okay with you ?
Wow Ian it flies very nice, I was out and by time got cars cleaned etc haven’t started it yet but really nice helicopter looks great thanks for sharing
Well done Ian! I've been flying helis for a while but never considered building one. It's the electronics that scare me but watching you has made me think about doing it 🤔
Well that's wicked, if I can do it I'm sure you can!! There's loads of great set up videos on TH-cam to guide you through, I'm not ashamed to say that that's how I taught myself 😀👍
Real nice Ian, Good build good flight, the pirouette comp looked good, not fluffy or pitchy during hover, It looks to handle the torque well in both head speeds. You can spend days leveling the swash and be 00.01 off and have a slight drift nothing to worry about. overall a really good build and flight. after about 20 or so flights you will have it ran or run in motor, bearings main gear every thing will mesh better and smoother, and in that time like you said the trust lvl will be increased. I love it. Good flight and bird Ian. 😁
Thank you Jason, when I got home and checked my throttle curve for normal mode I realised I'd done it wrong!! Had a bit to much of a gap in the middle!! I don't know why I made that mistake!! Rushing the set up I guess!! I was pleased with the tail it was good, quite a powerful Heli, Thanks for watching and commenting Jason 😀👍

Didn't sound correct!! I realised after checking my radio why!! My throttle curve wasn't correct that's why the motor sounded strange, and I had my blades a fraction to loose and that's why the Heli was jumping a bit, when your nervous though it's easy to make mistakes Lol thanks for watching and commenting Adnan 😀👍
@@IansRCExploits I know exactly what you mean, i have the same. Imagine, i am having that with my 330S😆, feeling nervous each time, and it droppes after a couple of minutes. But it is a positive weird feeling😃. You also did that throttle curve thing with the 330S by the way🤔
That went well, every model needs a tweak or two but you pushed the boundaries as much as you could hope for on a maiden, nicely done 👍 Forgot to say you could tie a piece of string to the heli pad and get Cheryl to pull it into position when you're landing lol
Hi Ian, Nice build and beautiful maiden flight 🚁. 😁 I have never done a complete build on a helicopter. Very nice job Ian, someday I want to build one from start to finish. Do you use a DX 8 transmitter?
Hi and thanks Scott, yes I use a DX8 Gen2 radio, it has worked faultlessly for me and is very easy to set up!! It's a great feeling to build a Heli, set it up and then watch it fly 😀👍
Hi, I looked into this!! It turns out that most Helie's hit a little bit of vibration until the blades get up to speed, I re balanced my main blades and also did the bolts securing the main blades a little bit tighter!! On the next set of flights the vibration was much better!! Thanks for watching and commenting 😀👍
Unfortunately my ECU fried and took out my gyro with it, align ECU with beastx. I have upgraded the ECU to hobbywing(I've never liked the align ECUs) but sticking with the beastx. She was dialed in perfect but now I have to do it all again lol. tuning is a 3 phase process, mechanical, transmitter, then gyro in that order. Are you using the beastx?
No I don't have any problems with setup!! I've built 7 Heli kits over the years!! I stick to my own settings thanks, I set them up for how I fly, I never use anybody else's settings but thanks for the offer 😀👍
@@IansRCExploits the bigger the heli the more time you have after power cutoff, so don't do this with a 450 or smaller. But letting the blades wind down as you land makes for some very soft landings and easier to control. Try it first with hovering a few inches and cut the power while holding collective, as she descends just add a tiny bit more collective. I ALWAYS autorotate my landings on mid-large size helis. This slows the blades way down which makes it allot safer too!
Nice to see new builds coming out. just picked up my helis again recently. Thanks for the video
Thanks James 😀👍

Everyone should have a 500 or 550. It's big enough to look and fly big in the air, but still just 6S.

Have you thought lowering the rpm (throttle speed) so the response won't be so nervous?

Mine also vibrate at low rpm. I think it may be related to the main gear case.

Hi ya love to know what your throttle curve is for normal flying mode graham
Hia Graham, my throttle curve is linear
So 0 25 50 75 90
After a few flights I upped the last part to 100 😀👍
Just before you land (a few inches off the ground) you should cut the power.
I'll give that a go next time I fly it!! Thanks for the info 😀👍
