Very helpful video. One thing you didn't mention though. The two flow plugs are very different. The one labeled HVDC goes in the bottom. The one labeled 58 goes in the top. The orifice is much smaller on HVDC. Thanks you helped a great deal. Your video gave me the confidence to get it done. Great job!
This is extremely important. Keep track of which one came from where or you may be taking it apart again to get it to run. I'm not sure of the orifice size vs flow rate, but my HVDC is supposed to be 0.3 gpm, and the other one is 0.1 gpm. I assumed this meant that the 0.3 gpm orifice would be larger, to allow more flow. Not entirely sure, though.
To clarify....the flow plug labeled HVDC is a .3gpm flow rate and it has the larger inside hole and it goes in the very bottom under the black gasket. The other plug may be labeled as DUDC but it is a smaller hole and only flows .1 gpm and it goes in the blue body. Both plugs should have their curved (concave side) facing downward when the unit is in and upright position.
Great video. I have that same model and yes there is some water at the bottom of my tank. This video makes it much easier to do the maintenance needed.
We just bought a house with this water softener & it did not hold water in the tank. The old house we had did. Thanks for letting me know this should not hold water in the tank
I believe that the flow plug with the larger hole (orifice sized for 0.3 GPM) goes in the “bottom” (center recess of the main Venturi body). The other (0.1 GPM) goes in the top or the blue disk.
Great video. I'm having a couple issues. Hard water and high water level in tank. I'm gonna clean the venturi valve and if that only gets rid of one problem, on with the diagnostic process 🤣
Have been trying to figure out if my almost new WP softener is really working and trying to understand HOW they work. I appreciate the videos - they have given me a better understanding of my own and I am saving to refer to should I get any issues you have covered. I use pellet salt and it gets hard in the tank, so I don't know if that is normal or if that is bad. It sounds bad. I thought it might be a bridge, but could never break through anything. After having for about 6 months, the salt indicator finally told me that it was time to add salt. It sounds, though, like you are changing yours a lot more frequent. There are 5 of us. Hmm.
great video. I cleaned my venturi and nozle. your video really helped. quick question, my whirlpool never has water sitting in the unit? its set for 20 grains hardness and to come on at 2am. Water not really soft lately. any suggestions on what might be the issue? thanks Mark
Most things around your home and designed in a way that promotes clogging or malfunction if you don't maintain regularly. No one gets paid if things don't break down ...! :)
Thank you for the info. Question. I've been watching my regeneration cycles, but I don't see much water in the tank DURING the entire regeneration cycle (and I've checked often). Any ideas what may be blocked and how to unblock it?
I have a problem with water softener , I just put some salt and then the water pressure on all the house is very low…any recommendation !? Like cleaning the ventury!?
So, great video! Thanks for sharing. I have 1-1.5’ of water in my tank. I’ve checked the drain hoses, all good and clear. I’ve cleaned the whole Venturi which is like new, the whole unit is really. I cleaned the hose going to the float and all those parts as well. I have zero salt bridge etc. but I am still holding all that water. Not sure the issue. Any ideas, anyone?
Similar to the two flow plugs shown in this video, there is a flow plug in the drain fitting. Make sure that is not partially blocked so that water can flow through the resin bed properly. If this is partially blocked, then you won't get proper discharge during the brine, rinse and backwash cycles. This means that during the brine sequence, you won't be able to pull the correct amount of brine from the brine tank.
Mine is 20 years old and full of water. Tried your method , ordered the gasket, cleaned and changed the venturi , water flows thru it no problem, then did a recharge and no change still full of water.
We have a Whirlpool WHES33 water softener that makes a single beep every 10-15 minutes... I have just added a cleaner bottle and did a recharge. Admission - I haven't added a cleaner bottle in a year or two.
I need help please. I have a whirlpool.... w softener . The low salt or recharge light is continually blinking ... Its a little low on salt but it has been lower many times b4 . My elec was out last week ...that may have something to do with it . Anyways it want respond when I push any button . I can't even set my time . Can you please help?
Quick question (love your content btw), I cleaned the Venturi and ran a recharge cycle...but now the water smells like metal. It didn't before. But now the smell is pretty strong. Any ideas? Thanks, JD
Be especially careful of that tiny screen filter under the gasket. Mine jumped out as soon as I rinsed it and went down the drain. I guess miracle would be an overstatement, but I took the trap off the sink and dumped it in a bucket. And there it was. That could have been another couple weeks waiting to get the part. Got it back together. Recharging. I'll see if it drains now.
My water pressure is slow. When I use the bypass it returns to normal. Would this cleaning solve the problem? What is the cost of whole new venturi? Just checked. A new venturi only costs 50 bucks on Amazon! Much easier to just replace the entire unit and not have to worry about losing any of the very small pieces. Just take the old one off and put on the new one. Should be as easy as changing a light bulb.
After reattaching, I'm getting a massive leak where the outflows connect with the c clip. The 2 orings are in place in the bottom outflow. Everything is snug

The flow plugs are 2 different flow rates. (.15 & .3 GPM) How do you know which goes where? Markings?

Will the level in the tank go down on regens or do I need to siphon it out?

we are enjoying the water softner series.. we now have one and know NOTHING about it. great share Roland
Glad you like it guys!

I don't see water in the brine tank either. The water is below the salt. Only about 3 inches of water. I turned mine up to 30

Very helpful same as sears water softener. Looks very similar inside. Thanks
Great video! Remember to turn the bypass off. And probably a good idea to unplug first.

Helpful video. How often would you recommend cleaning the Venturi?
How did you check the black tube from the Venturi to the brine well for any blockages?
I blew on it
Thank you! Very helpful
You're welcome!
Great info Roland- didn’t know about all those steps 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you Memaw!
Great video! Thanks

So what would cause my WHES33 to recharge everyday and how do I fix that. Thanks

Not sure what to say. These appliances are an on going puzzle aren't they

try to unplug it wait about 15 minutes then plug it back in that might reset it.. I just guessing
Your videos are always so informative Roland!! Cool series. - Rick
Thanks Rick, imagine if I'd get the name of the parts correct? 🤣🤣
Quick question (love your content btw),
I cleaned the Venturi and ran a recharge cycle...but now the water smells like metal. It didn't before. But now the smell is pretty strong.

No idea that's weird
@@GettingItDoneRepairs
I did all steps for cleaning but still have the water level at around 5. Any suggestions?
Do you have part # for gasket
Nice advise and very informative on how to to do this interesting take care
Great video! Very helpful, thanks so much!
Glad it helped!
Thank you !!!!! ✌❤
you're welcome!
My advice for the amateur is to use your cellphone camera to record every step.
You should lube the o-rings with Vaseline or some other rubber lubrication.
Don’t use vasoline or any petroleum based lube, use a plumbers silicone grease only.
@@rw3476
My manual says to use Vaseline or silicone grease
Great video , didn't know about this
Thanks it's an easy thing to do and those flow plugs have to go back in with the concaved side first. Makes all the difference.
Yes those tiny filters can be elusive. Make sure you replace those small rubber flow plugs with the concaved side in first. Hope it all works out.
Yep! Little suckers. I always keep the sink plug in and still have had trouble finding it sometimes.
And how vital would you say that screen is? Hypothetically?
What if you do all that and the water level still doesn’t go down? Anyone got an answer for that?

Not sure without seeing it.
@4:46 you see it peeing out of here.. see, that's good. Everythings good
My question how do you know when it's won out... They always looks fine on all these videos lolol
Ok, now what do I do with the extra parts, i always end with extra parts. 😆
🤣
Bah! Just toss em'! 😆
