I think galleys would work better in this situation. I probably started building heavies because of laziness and having enough money to not care that much about this level of inefficiency. Here are small arguments in favor of heavies (again, overall, I think galleys are better for the inland wars). 1) They move faster so less micro in terms of chasing enemies 2) They're better outside inland, and I'll eventually have to retrofit my navy for those purposes You could argue that you should keep galleys for inland and heavies for non inland, which is fair, but that's an added layer of effort that I didn't feel is worth my time.
You can give a subject independence as part of a peace treaty, this lowers your AE. If you get the Burgundian Inheritence you can get the "the Duchess of Burgundy dies" event, which has you inherit Burgundy in game terms (instant free integration.) If you give up Burgundy in a peace deal, while that event is active, you get rid of the AE and eat Burgundy for free by confirming the event.
