I bought an 04 ktm 125sx for $650 with a bad rod, leaky carb, missing nuts and bolts, no back brakes, and a bald front tire. $500 later and alot of work put into it but im proud of what I accomplished

Tyrsson Turnage They sure do, if your intake valve clearance is really off they can't close entirely allowing air to escape back through the intake, resulting in poor compression.

Dudes a reet, valves allow air in to make the Compression, it definitely has everything to do with it. I just had to shim the valves on my cbr bc of low compression.

I have the same bike 2009 kx250f and I had very low compression but my valves needed to be adjusted and now I gota jump on the bike to start it so It probably don’t need a rebuild

The backfiring is a good sign of it needing valve adjustments. Although, other things can cause backfiring as well.

Whenever the valves are out of adjustment on these new four strokes the compression goes away. All you probably needed on that kx250f was valve shims and brakes and clean the carb And 👆... good to go.

The trick is 2ng gear walk all the way back untill the wheel stops pull clutch rip the kick and it will fire everytime

you can not tell compression with the 4 strokes because of the auto decompression that this new 4 strokes have

It's not worth it to buck up and stiffen your offer at a price like that when it's his property. if he drives to you, its one thing, but he could have just said no and honestly made alot more off a kid trying to get a bike. You can tell he was being pressured to sell it financially tho.

All the Kawasaki needed was the valves shimmed. It was a far better bike. Brakes are an easy fix. That Yamaha was clapped out, needs a new carby, and probably has bad seals and oil in the crank case as well. Cost all your $700 to fix it.
The 06 250 needs intake valves tightened and if it has hot cams it is a little bit more adjusting but my friends stepdad has a 2010 or 11 kx250f and my brother rode it and it didn't start and another guy told him it's the intake valves
