  • The old Jeep was bottoming out a bit with heavy loads, so I replaced the old Rough Country Springs with Rubicon Express Coils.

    Just a tip, when doing the front springs, instead of using a spring compressor if you jack up the opposite side it will cause the side to lower and you should be able to manually squeeze in and out the spring.

    I had the same problem so I installed Teraflex Overland springs. Fantastic upgrade. No sag and the ride is excellent.

    I was more interested in your coil spring removal since I plan to add pucks at the bottom of the bump stops. Thanks for the video!

    Thanks for the video. Helped assure me that I didn't have to disconnect any steering components or control arms to get the axle to drop that low. I did the front last weekend and on to the back tomorrow.

    I jacked up the axle then used my high-lift to lift the body higher from the axle. Put my 6 ton jack stand under the body and lowered the front axle far enough that I was able to slide out my old RC 3.5" coils and put in my new RK 3.5" coils without compressing the springs.
    Using that high-lift on my front bumper D-ring gave enough separation that I probably could have put 5" lift coils in without having to compress the coils.

    Suggestion , for the front brake lines i would run them behind the actual shock along with the abs wire and buy some teraflex brake line anchors there around 20-25 bucks and this will give you lots more brake line droop and the anchor will prevent the lines from getting caught . that location you have it in now is for stock brake lines

    Coil spring compressor, when front wheel drive struts were new in the 80s I embarrased myself when the compressors let go into the garage ceiling. I now add a couple loops from a ratchet strap before I pull out the coils.

    Put rubicon express on my wife’s Jeep. Now it rides like a 72 kenworth cabover only stiffer. You can listen to your dashboard trying to eject itself out of the Jeep as you go down a graded dirt road

  • @allanwagner4570

    Rubicon express springs are VERY stiff and ride rough
    Metalcloak springs are much better I swapped out my rubicon’s for Metalcloak and love the ride on and off road

    I am also planning on swapping out my rough country springs for rubicon express, just want to know if there are any negatives of the new springs and how has the ride changed? Were your new springs the 3.5 or the 4.5 inch ones? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Great job on the video I learned a few things.

      From personal experience, the Rock Krawler triple rate springs are one of/if not the best coil springs for JK/JKU's.

    If you didn't paint those coils with Duracoat before install you fuct up!! RE coils will rust within 1 year .they are good coils with a Chinese powder coat. I have the exact same coils as this guy but I was smart I read all the reviews that said the exact same thing I'm saying now!

      It looks like you have had the new springs on now for ~10 months. Any regrets? Was going to do the same shorty, with basically the same setup issues as you had (tent, gear, tools, etc..) bottoming out. Thinking about adding an air suspension kit as an extra layer.

    If you have a 3.5 Inch Lift Kit ... What happens if you put 3 or 2.5 inch Coil Springs?

    • @sacsoverlanding
      @sacsoverlanding  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually dont know really. I would always go a bit bigger rather than smaller probably

    • @Fluto82
      @Fluto82 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The spring is the lift kit basically. SO if you have a 3.5 lift kit, and you install 2,5" springs you have a 2.5" lift. 🤣

    • @spydergs07
      @spydergs07 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Remember with all Jeeps 2007 and newer, if you go over 3.5" you really want to look at getting smaller diameter drive shafts and making sure your caster angle is correct.
      If your caster is off too much you will end up wearing your U-joints on your driveshafts and differential input bearings out much faster.

    Don’t but the rubicon express shocks. They are a little short on length and not at all soft.
    I’m on the RE 2.5” lift and it rides sooooo rough... about to swap out the springs with RK triple rate. ( we live in New Orleans , it’s rough) I’ll be replacing the RE shocks with Bilisteins before Memorial Day.
