Got an used i7 3770 with a Gigabyte ga-z77x-ud3h last week. It had F14 and I flashed to F18 to get sound working in Linux 3.16. Although my steps were a bit different this tutorial gave me a good idea of what to do. Thanks!

Thanks for the awesome video guide! I have a GA-Z77X-UD3H and flashing the BIOS is very similar. 1st build and this was a great step-by-step instruction to flash the bios! I would just add that the flash drive needs to be in the usb port when the computer boots up.
I updatet my 970A-UD3 gigabyte motherboard bios right now by following what you told me to. And guess what?. Now it works smoothly , i can play all the games i couldn't before. Thanks man i appreciate it soo much !!!!
I suggest going to the website and looking at what the updated bios does in the newest version. Honestly I don't recommend updating unless something like an upgrade is not working at all. Bios updates do not usually increase performance or adds new features like turning usb 2.0 into usb 3.0. The old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Thanks for watching!

Well, I feel kinda goofy, lol The power supply that I use had a bad plug on it and when I connected a laptop hard drive to another plug it recognized the HDD and took the operating system so all is well now, Thank you very much for getting back to me and trying to help me. Again thank you for the BIOS explanation, It worked perfect and running smoothly.
I might look into doing that for the UEFI BIOS. It is the new BIOS that will be on most all new machines soon. It's just difficult to do because many motherboard manufacturers have so many different features and sometimes will name the features differently from one another. So if I make a video for one mother mother it would not apply to all or many. It might only apply to a few models. I will need to do more research. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!
I was wondering if you could do a bios specific video? Explaining not all, but most of the essential bios settings and what they do. I'm building my first hackintosh soon and i will be using a gigabyte motherboard. No overclocking though. But i'd like to have some more background knowledge on bios settings to tweak my system. I figured you could explain in great detail about different settings. Looks complicated! Great video.
No but you will need to remember the settings of your old BIOS because when you update it you wipe out the old settings. It could prevent your computer from booting Windows. For example the AHCI SATA controller. You have to see if you are using AHCI or IDE for that setting.
I'm doing something pretty similiar to UEGparagon ,...brand new system, GA-970A-DS3 with a AMD FX 6300,,,a CPU which I'm told will only work with the latest bios.. So what you're saying is 'use the BIOS from the disk..some things may not work properly..then follow the above video to update' ? My worry is that if it wont work straight away, and a "windowless" system wont recognise a USB drive and I'll be stuck. Brilliant video, by the way.
I don't know that information. Look at the BIOS release notes to see what the updates will do to your cpu. You can find that info on the gigabyte website.

What revision do you have? If you go to the website, under the model name there are some words like rev 3.0 rev 1.4 rev 1.3 rev 1.2. You have to click on the correct rev you have on the motherboard. They printed your version on the lower left corner of the motherboard. Next the the words Designed in Taipei.

F.E.A.R 3 (doesn't work) Darkness II (doesn't work) Syndicate (works) Split/Second (works) Now the only issue I noticed is that both Darkness II and F.E.A.R 3 are Steam games. It should be printed on your motherboard. Some where on the corner of the board. If you still can't find it, look up where they printed it in the motherboards manual. Good luck.
Also, when I go to MB Intelligent Tweaker, mine shows a completely different information from yours. It's all about CPU clock ratio, DRAM, and etc. Mine is gigabyte 970A-UD3.

You would need to install a compatible cpu that gets far enough to boot into bios so you can update. If not then return that motherboard and tell them to see if they can give you a newer one from the manufacturer and hopefully it is updated already. Good luck.
When it is a different Rev no do not update to that bios only use the one that is rel avant to your Rev no or you could lose your bios,Rev means Revised in other words its been updated with different hardware or firmware?
you can check the version of your bios with speecy, and compare the letter or numer of your actuel bios with the new bios that you want update on the table on the gigabyte plateform

Most likely it is a BIOS update for the FX series CPU's. That is the issues with some of the games on steam is the CPU. So the BIOS update is what will fix this CPU issue. I would say get the latest update and you use the dates or number sequence. Thanks for watching!

Is it formatted in FAT or FAT32? Try using another USB port. Preferably USB 2.0 port and not the 3.0 port. Also, try using a small storage drive like a 2gb or 4gb. Good luck.
Could someone please help me? I followed all the steps in the video many times with different bios' (for the same motherboard of course) but when i select the option to update my motherboard via my flash drive it says Invalid bios image and so prevents me from updating the bios at all
HELP! So i tried to backup the bios, and it got stuck so i rebooted the system. It tried to boot but rebooted as soon as the motherboard screen popped up(where you press delete to enter bios). The second boot was succesfull. But if i try to set back my overclock settings, the same problem occures

For anyone having trouble in the bios menu, gigabyte released software called @bios that let's you update bios from the desktop. Super easy.

i can't access bios unless i use a ps/2 keyboard. is this a setting i can change? i'd rather the usb keyboard, if possible.
