In this video, we explore if getting a master's degree in cybersecurity is a good idea. We look at the pros and cons of this advanced degree and see how it can impact your career and personal growth. At first, I had doubts about the value of a cybersecurity master's degree. But after digging deeper, I found some surprising facts that made me change my mind, kind of...
We talk about the job market for cybersecurity professionals. With cyber threats growing every day, the demand for skilled workers in this field is high. Companies need experts to protect their data and systems. This means more job opportunities and potentially higher salaries for those with the right skills and education. A master's degree can help you stand out in this competitive job market.
We also look at the skills and knowledge you gain from a master's degree in cybersecurity. These programs cover advanced topics like cryptography, network security, and ethical hacking. You also learn how to think like a hacker to better protect against cyber attacks. This deep understanding of cybersecurity can give you an edge over other job candidates and help you excel in your career.
We also discuss the potential return on investment for a cybersecurity master's degree. While these programs can be expensive, the increased earning potential and job opportunities can make it worth the cost. We look at salary data and job growth projections to see how this degree can pay off in the long run.

Thanks for the insight!
Thanks Josh, great info.
Hey Josh, thanks for all the videos! Very informative
I honestly feel they should have added the CISSP and maybe another really advanced cert like the AWS Security Specialty and the Microsoft Cybersecurity certs to the degree but I guess it would have upped its difficulty too much
Hi I Have Masters Degree And Google Cybersecurity Certificate I am still on job searching Any Help Is Welcome. Thanks!
Josh, Your cert questions came right on time. I start WGU next week, working towards a Bachelors in Network Engineering and Security. Thank you so much! (Was using ExamCompass which is definitely not the best)
Never been here this early. We appreciate you Josh
Thanks so much 😊
Cool!
Paasing the CISSP exam without the required experience can be ethically added to a resume as "CISSP Associate." 😊 Some of the DOD directives refer to this specifically.
Im a mid level Network engineer. I started the MSCIA this month. I enjoyed the material for the first class. Looking forward to taking my first cert.
Do the CASP+. Thanks
Got my masters in cyber in the old program, I was pissed as soon as they updated the curriculum/certs 😭
If you’re successful it wouldn’t matter
I am about to start the masters this fall. I hope you are well. When are you coming back to Japan?
Finishing mines in Dec 😂. I like to have it to show that I mean business about my career path
Get certificates and transfer them to Cybersecurity master degree and take additional classes to complete the degree??
Josh are you still gonna drop that course you mentioned in the community post you deleted? Please do, your knowledge in this field is too good man
Can you put the link to that example resume in the description as noted in the video? As of this comment it is not there.
can you please do a practice exams for server+ and linux+
Where is the link to the practice test? Not in the description....thanks for the information!!! Keep it up
Disregard I see the comment
What’s up Josh? I’m an IT manager who worked in a 55k square feet facility. I have my security+ and currently studying for my azure500. Would you reccomend me to go for a masters of cybersec or comp sci degree? I have a non stem major
Hey Josh, could you make an in-depth video on how to securely pass the MS program in 6 months, what would I need to do to ensure that. I heard some people even completed the Master in 3 weeks. That would be nice
I am soon to graduate with my bachelor's degree in IT with an emphasis of Cybersecurity, and even the internships of junior level positions are turning me away....is there some kind of cheat code to get in to tech? right now it is feeling like I've wasted my money.
Would it be better to get the network engineering and security with some cybersecurity certifications
A bunch of the certifications in the MS program are also in the BS program so it would be cheaper the get the MS in Cyber after the BS in Cyber
Always appreciate your insights, @joshmadakor
Im still trying to find a job after graduating WGU Cybersecurity bachelors. I have 2 detailed projects in a git hub too
Will you recommend the degree program? Is it worth it
@@kamanda5362 yes if you have prior it experience but if you dont have any, expect to work helpdesk upon graduating. Thats what im doing right now remotely
Impressed by how much you are milking this topic
I'll give a constructive response to this, just so you know.
I really don't like making repeat videos about ANY topic, even once is enough to bother me. I simply don't like it-however, people will ask the same thing over and over and over and over again, and eventually, I will just make a video about it.
The TH-cam META is, you're "supposed" to remake your popular videos with a new twist every quarter or so. Even though I don't really care to adhere to this, I end up doing it anyway because of the amount of people asking about the same thing repeatedly.
There is no way for you to know this without doing TH-cam, but a significant chunk of viewers for every video are new. it's something like 30-60% of people watching each video are seeing you for first time, so it's basically impossible to satisfy everyone. Hope this helps ^^
Hello Josh,
Please my question is what prep work is there for Masters level at WGA Cybersecurity Program. background is BS is Psychology. Then worked as front Software engineer for 2.5 years, then Technical Product manager for 1.5 years. 3 months of that was for a cybersecurity company.
Hey, Josh. Studying abroad is one of my dreams; a local master's degree is also necessary to get a working visa. Besides the money, which points are important when I choose the school? I already finished Google IT support, Google Cyber Security, some projects, and some fundamental certies. Can you please give me some advice?
Josh, do u know anyone who has done Georgia techs online masters in cyber?
I'm a little over half way through the MSCIA from WGU and it is a very good value. Also, keep in mind the cash value of the certification vouchers you receive when looking at the cost. You get ISC2 CC, CySA+, PenTest+, CASP+, and CISM vouchers as part of the program.
That’s awesome! I’m starting the MSCIA at WGU as well, in August, possibly September. I’ve heard good things about the program
Would you recommend getting an IT and/or cyber degree either undergrad or grad, if you already have a non STEM degree?
Yeah I am curious about this too.
Lots of jobs in my area require a Bachelors in IT for entry level work.
@@Mr.Buttons928 yep, same. I have a BA and graduate degree in non STEM, but lots of places want to see that IT degree...including my current employer.
@sparecube Make them pay for it (:
No. The market is terrible right now for I.T. I have a non-stem bachelor's degree and also a bachelor's degree from WGU in Network Operations and Security. I graduated last summer and I still can't find a full-time job. The market is over-saturated with new grads and also people with a ton more experience who have been laid off. Do anything else other than I.T. right now. Huge waste of time and money.
@@BobbyMcGee_2023 Digital Marketing has the same issues I think every industry is kind of a joke right now.
I'm betting the U-6 unemployment rate is hovering around 10% because the Fed "needed" to cool off the economy and Congress sure as hell wasn't going to raise corporate taxes or re-ban stock buybacks.
Right now I am doing a Master's degree in Cybersecurity. But at the same time I'm working on certs, I have my bachelors in IT and I got my CompTIA A+ so far. Working on my Net+, and then after my Sec+. Maybe ill try and start on CISSP after the Sec+. Not 100% sure what I should do after my Sec+. Going to try and get Sec+ before I graduate next year.
I'm curious have you been able to land a job with just the degree and A+? I have the latter, but I'm working on the A+ because I have been unlucky with just the degree.
@@euric869 I actually wasn't able to land a job, but I'm actually an international student living in America. So it makes it significantly more tough, I may have gotten a job if I was a U.S. citizen. But for now I'm also contemplating on getting Josh's course to see if that will help me learn more before I graduate.
What do you think of CIAT Bachelor's in it program
How can you get cissp if you don't have the required experience? 5 years lol
I would like to have one on one conversation with you ? I live around Seattle area
Certs such as CISSP is as good as a Masters unless you plan to teach in the university. Cheers!
I work as a probation officer and have no IT experience. I want to make a career change. I’m interested in the WGU Cyber Masters program but can I take this with no IT experience? I have a bachelors in criminology. I’m thinking of starting with your IT intro course, then cyber course, then the masters program. I can give myself 2 years also. Please let me know the best route. Thanks!
If you have no IT experience with computers.. you need to start from the ground up. Learn the basics of computer components, then software, then learn coding languages, etc.
I did the B.S. in Comp Sci at WGU and now it's worthless
Josh, are IT jobs safe from AI? Specifically tech support and cyber security?
AI is going to enhance cybersecurity, but it won't replace it anytime soon. That's like if we trusted androids instead of police officers, even if the androids are better there is something off about putting trust of our critical infrastructure into robots.
This requires a huge answer, but luckily I made a video about this recently, haha. Check it out if you get time: th-cam.com/video/iFlwyzhpA10/w-d-xo.html
Is this masters degree from WGU? Is this a paid sponsor?
1:58, good that they removed CEH 🗑
I take it you are on the WGU payroll.
I promise I’m not, I should have mentioned that in the video 🥹
@@JoshMadakor The professional line is: "Full disclosure, I have no financial interest in WGU, but I do have a degree from there, and I'm biased." I'm glad you're happy with your experience.
My only experience with WGU is talking with some faculty and their trying to hire me at $50k (more than 15 years ago). Not impressed with the faculty's expertise at that time and was floored they thought they could seriously offer $50k for a doctorate. CCNA, MCSE, etc.
Do the CASP+. Thanks
