For anyone studying for certifications like SEC+, please study for knowledge retention and not just to get that piece of paper. The cert will help secure interviews, but knowing the information in depth will help carry you through the interviews. Learn from my early mistakes. I passed SEC+ in a rush and couldn't get any jobs. I then buckled down and studied CySA+, intending to learn as the end goal and landed my first job as a SOC Triage/IR analyst. I've now moved up, passed my CISSP, and am starting WGU next month and intend to finish in 6 months. Will be tough at times, but focus on continuous improvement, and you will get to where you want to be.

Hi Josh! I just landed a job as an IT analyst, that includes duties in IAM and with SOC! It’s been a long journey, but I am thankful for your role in my journey, starting with finishing my bachelor’s from WGU. I regularly watch your videos and gain so much helpful insight. I am so excited for my journey to start but am facing a bit of imposter syndrome before I start work.😅 Hope that I live up to the importance of my role! Thanks again for motivating me!❤️🤗

Holy hikers Josh, I just really gotta thank you for the site with all the practice questions 🙏 I'm scheduled to take my A+ Core 1, Network+, and CC exams next week using some school exam vouchers and the free "1 Million" ISC2 attempt at the Certified in Cybersecurity exam. Your example questions in Anki with Professor Messer TH-cam videos have been super helpful with my studies. And I'll post about my results and how it went on May 20th!

My title is infosec and IT generalist, it's a L2 position though we focus on security far more than just plain support.
The biggest hurdle I'm finding is that despite having two certifications, a BA, and around five YoE I just don't live in an area where the jobs are plentiful. I'm priced out of most major metro areas and finding affordable rentals in decent areas seem to be very difficult. If say my first job is SOC analyst, and the pay is only 65k living in Denver metro or SoCal, that money will not do very well there. The other is wanting better work-life balance as I'm much older and don't have the energy for working nights/weekends/holidays at the drop of a hat in case of a breach. So those kind of first responder jobs don't apply for me, I'm looking at more GRC or even in cyber education.

Hi Josh, thanks for all the great content. I've been working as an external IT Auditor for the last 18 months at a "Big 8" accounting firm, but would like to pivot full time into Cybersecurity. I don't mind continuing to work in a GRC capacity, but I believe your hands on course and internship would still be very beneficial to do.
My question is regarding how to frame this on my resume. If I currently have a job, and want to put the Cyber course internship on there as well, how do I frame this in the experience section so as to not confuse potential employers in the hiring process going forward? Also, is 2 pages max too much for a resume?

Question for you Josh: As an experienced IT professional recruiters and hiring managers will probably check my most recent job experiences. If I have not worked in in Cybersecurity role before, but I complete projects such as your hands on course, how can I list this as valid experience instead of under a “Project” section that will probably be skipped over during a resume review?

Great video! Would you consider doing follow up interviews with some of your course graduates at some interval of time, like 1 year, 2 years, etc?
