    Wondeful Video, but I have to mention about your comment at 1:21.
    Tenleytown-AU station on the Red line also has a singular elevator that goes directly from the surface to the platform with fairgates on the platform.

      thx for pointing that out, I wasn't 100% sure, ill have to check that out sometime.

      Also Judiciary Square and Ballston each have elevators directly to fare gates on the platforms.

      Same with Takoma. Elevator straight from a pedestrian underpass to the platform and faregates.

      I was about to say the same thing. Also, while it may not directly count due to its split platform design, there’s another example one stop northwest at Rosslyn. Its elevator lobby goes directly from the upper platform to the surface.

    Lovely video! Arlington Cemetery is unique because it is the only Metro station with differing hours from the system as a whole. The station closes at 7pm in the winter and 10pm in the summer. After these times, trains just pass through without stopping. Some other stations have specific entrances that close early (Farragut North and Judiciary Square come to mind), but at those stations, at least one entrance remains open until the last train passes through

      I saw that, I completely forgot to mention that in the video, thx!

    Judiciary Square is the only other twin platform station in the system with elevators that go directly to the platforms from the surface. The reason why it is that way is because during the early stages of the designing of the system there was no plans to make the system accessible wheel chair bound individuals. Judiciary Square was structurally done when the decision was made. The 3 of 4 other station designed prior to the decision to include elevator, (Union Station, Gallery Place, Metro Center and Farragut North) were redesigned to include elevators during there construction, Rhode Island Ave was modified to in include an elevator after its construction by eliminating the 4th mezzanine to platform escalator.
    Tenleytown Is the only island platform station where the single elevator goes directly to the platform from the surface.
    Prior to the opening of the second elevator only entrance at Rosslyn the single elevator went directly to the upper level platform from the surface and the pedestrian skyway that use to connect many of the building in Rosslyn.
    The Arlington Cemetery station is the only station in the system that was built using only federal funding. Had federal funds not been granted to built the station it would not exist at all.

    I'm surprised that this doesn't have higher ridership numbers, being literally at a huge tourist destination!

    • @sammymarrco47
      @sammymarrco47  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      yeah it definitely used to have higher numbers, and it does have higher numbers in the warmer months with more tourists.

      @jg-7780 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Arlington Cemetery is certainly a tourist destination, but I wouldn't call it a "major" tourist destination. Unlike other stops near tourist destinations, the Arlington Cemetery stop *only* serves Arlington Cemetery. There is nothing else within a reasonable walk of the station, no bus connections, no job centers, nothing. Just the cemetery. The closest thing you could walk to would be about a 20 min walk to the Lincoln memorial, although most tourists using metro to get to the Lincoln memorial would likely use Foggy Bottom, which is also a 20 min walk, serves more lines, and is a shorter ride to downtown.

    It was crowded when I was at the station back in 2016, although I doubt it’ll close since chances are WMATA is used to transport stuff here by the feds.

    • @sammymarrco47
      @sammymarrco47  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      if wmata has to close some stations it may only be opened on busy days like the 4th and memorial day etc.

    What are the weekend numbers like, since this is a tourist destination with few (if any) work places nearby? I’ve seen the platform at Arlington Cemetery be very crowded in the summer.

    I actually really like this station! I've used it to get to the Lincoln Memorial before (the walk from here is only slightly longer than that from Foggy Bottom, and crossing the Memorial Bridge over the Potomac here on foot isn't bad at all). It's definitely one of the most peaceful Metro stations on the network.

      @ well, the stadium changed it name from FedEx stadium to northwest stadium, which I don’t like, there bus bay for 2 buses, 24 and 26, ( years before there were 3, 22 ), and there houses near by, and there’s parking,

      maybe at one point, but in 2023 on weekdays Van Dorn had about 400 more entries. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Washington_Metro_stations

    This begs the question of why was it built in the first place the could have built a station on the other side of Arlington Cemetery on either Arlington Blvd or Washington Blvd by Fort Meyer with two entrances one being for the cemetery

    • @sammymarrco47
      @sammymarrco47  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure why, but if you look at a map the curves for the pentagon and p-city would be pretty sharp, maybe they didn't want to deal with it, or maybe NIMBYS from Lyon park didn't want it. Its also currently next to the main entrance and welcome building so maybe they wanted everyone entering from the same place.

    • @Kev4Kev
      @Kev4Kev 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sammymarrco47 It still could have been possible. They could have went from Lyon Park or Fort Meyer are to Pentagon City first then Pentagon and National Airport skipping Crystal City or going Fort Meyer, Pentagon, Crystal City skipping Pentagon City.
      That being said I think stopping in Lyon Park or Penrose and not stopping at Pentagon City or Crystal City would have been worth it as it would have gotten all the residents along Arlington Blvd or Columbia Pike closer to a metro station.
