Homemade Natural Shampoo

  • Shampoo generally has a lot of unnecessary nasty chemicals in it, this natural shampoo recipe avoids bad chemicals, is cruelty free & comparatively eco-friendly too! It is also a lot cheaper when you consider the life time use of the ingredients,
A lot of people turn to 'no-poo' shampooing because they want to get away from the harsh effects of conventional shampoos and gain many benefits that come from that. This is still a shampoo, but it is a lot gentler and doesn't strip natural oils in the way conventional shampoos do.
I use it about twice a week and have a apple cider vinegar rinse about half that time as well.

This shampoo rocks! Well, sort of. I didn't have all the ingredients, so I kinda made my own version (1/2 cup Castile soap, 1/2 cup canned coconut milk, 10 drops of lavender oil and 10 drops of geranium oil). I have wavy-ish frizzy, fluffy hair, but after using this shampoo just once (I made it today), it feels super smooth and not frizzy at all! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe, Ela!

I made both the apple cider vinegar rinse and the shampoo (minus the vinegar powder). I was amazed! My hair is so soft, but the biggest thing I noticed is how much less hair is left in the drain. Almost none. Compared to before, it was amazing. I wouldn't go back to commercial shampoo for anything!

I've been using this recipe for 6 months now and I'm done. Going back to my regular shampoo. The breakage on my hair has been horrendous. My hair is as long as hers and have lost half its thickness due to the breakage. Can no longer put it in a fat smooth braid. The ACV rinse just made my hair feel waxy. Tried everything I could think of to adjust the ph level and stop the breakage, nothing worked. The only thing that helped to minimize the breakage was to put a few drops of Argan oil in my hands and rub it through, avoiding the scalp.

Castile soap is not a good idea. I used it for several months and it made my hair so dry. I make a solid shampoo out of SCI and so far very happy with the results.

I used to have a organic shampoo with cocamidopropyl betaine ( www.humblebeeandme.com/project/cocamidopropyl-betaine/ ) that worked well for my scalp too. All commercial shampoos (even the organic ones) give me a flaky and irritated scalp. They are so harsh (sls is just awful for my skin). So far the only ingredients that my scalp like are cocamidopropyl betaine and Sci. Atm I am experimenting with a cocamidopropyl betaine diy shampoo.

I am in my mid twenties and my hairline has been receding for a couple of years. I tried Biotin and other all natural products as well as expensive prescriptions and none of them worked. I was looking for other natural products when I came across arganlife. I never heard of using real hair for a concealer so I purchased this product expecting very little. I was blown away on how natural looking and durable this product is. It blended so well my girlfriend of four years could not even tell what was different. I would recommend this product to anyone with thinning or receding hair.

Hello, thank you for all of your wonderful ideas! I am on a palm oil boycott so castile soap doesn't work for me. The farming of palm oil is devastating forests and wildlife and I've cut most of it out of my life. How do you feel about melting bits of Kiss My Face Pure Olive Oil soap, instead of the castile? Or would the sodium chloride harm my hair?

Works a mint, there's a trick to using it but my extremely damaged hair loved it. no conditioner or treatment and it passed as semi normal hair.

After watching a couple of videos about homemade shampoo I get the gist . The main engridients is Castille soap which makes the shampoo bubbles and what really cleanse your hair and you can just add anything to it like coconut milk, essential oils, olive oil, etc

I love how thoughtful you are about all of your recipes. I have been making most of my own cosmetics now because of u! Do you use pacifica? Love and toast. I think you would really love this two brands for store bought products but I'm not sure if there available in NZ. Also could you make a video on choosing to go vegan and how to start? Thanks. 💞💞💞💞💞💞

The best thing about this DIY shampoo is that , it can be used as a bodywash too .
Most of the ingredients excluding fenugreek is used for Skin care !

I haven't got Castille Soap, can I use Almond Oil Instead? I've been trying the no poo method, but would like to use a natural shampoo!
    Thanks, love and light,

Thank you! You should add 'and conditioner' to your link, because your apple cider rinse acts as conditioner, plus with your shampoo, you probably dont need a heavier conditioner, so you'll get more interest to your link!
