Best thing about Lowrance is the customer support. I've had good experiences every time I needed help with an issue, talked to a real person in Canada within minutes who was the actual expert/tech. The Elite FS is great value for the money paired with a 3-in-1 transducer. I fish in southern vancouver island it has worked well. I also like the ability to wifi-mirror the screen to a cheap tablet that I place at the back near my downriggers. lets me check for bait and schools of fish when trolling right at the back.

From various reviews/reports I was under the impression it would be easily readable in strong sunlight, but was very disappointed to find out that was not the case at all. As Murphy's law will have it, you always find a video telling you the reality when it's too late. Just need to build myself a cabin now to get the sounder out of the sunlight LOL.
The HDS is not worth the money in my opinion. I run 2 FS elite 9 on my open boat and I've never had any issues with sun, sun glare or viewing angles. I'm in fact surprised that it's never been an issue. I was prepared to have some sun hoods on the units but I don't have to because there's no issue.
@@peterfinlan8159 Yes absolutely, that's what I'm doing. You connect one screen to the transducer and the second screen to screen nr 1. The screen nr1 becomes the source and mirrors to the second screen.
What a great vid Tim! I am looking to get the elite FS with a 3 in 1 transducer for offshore fishing in the caribbean, do you think it will be a good setup to show me fish up to 1000 feet deep? Thanks!
The 3 in 1 transducer works best in shallower water, especially the side and down scan. A P66 transducer is a good choice up to 1000ft but if your targeting fish on the bottom in 1000ft then a 1KW transducer is going to be your best choice.
Hello I looking at the HDS -9 carbon fishfinder GPS chartplotter combo I’m fishing Lake Ontario for salmon up to 500 ft of water it’s listed at pro bass this week on sale for $1199.00 but the description does not tell me the transducer that comes with it Do you have any comments with what I should and should not purchase for this type of fishing I do also fish shallower Kawartha lakes for walleye Muskie pike and bass Is this unit an all round good idea for this Thanks your video is very educational

How old is your unit? I believe the Hook series has a 1 year warranty. You can try the Canadian help desk 1-855-361-1564 option 1 for English and 2 for service.

You can connect the 2 together via Ethernet to share a transducer but that will use all your Ethernet ports. These units will not connect wirelessly. Hope this help.
The Reveal is made by CMAP. Most unit come with CMAP discover. Reveal maps have more information and shading. Reveal maps are sold for smaller area due to SD card space where discover is for all North America.

If you can afford it, go with the Live. Love my HDS.
I got the elite n I must say the sun glare is not a problem for me

Glad to hear they are working out for you. Elite is a great product, just my opinion on the difference I see.

The HDS Carbon is a great unit, for what type of fishing your planning on doing I would suggest the Active Imaging 3 in 1 transducer.

The older ti2 wireless connect to use one sonar. Not sure why lowrance took this away

I would think there would be a slight lag with the wireless sonar. The Ti2 was really popular thou.

Prices for the HDS have gone up for sure, i expect them to come down a little due to lack of sales.
