Fell asleep listening to this. Had a dream i was sleeping in an unfurnished house, woke up and started cleaning the walls. Afterwards i went back to "sleep". While laying in bed in this dream i remembered i had to call my cousin. My phone wasnt there which made me anxious. I heard someone speak in the room that i had just finished cleaning. I recalled that the wall i was working on had a hole in it. So maybe my neighbors or someone else snatched the phone through the hole somehow and are now using it themselves? I went back to the room. There was no one. I poked my head through the hole. It felt like going through a wormhole interstellar style. So yeah i woke up and called my cousin. That's it.

wow, Boiler Room. keep bringing us diverse progenitors of minimalism & avant garde electronic music like this! what a performance. love Terry Riley. have Moonshine Dervishes on vinyl, have even dropped it during sets.
"Each individual is an expression of the collective consciousness of humanity and the collective consciousness of humanity is an expression of the One universal consciousness." Eckhart Tolle
What a stunning rendition! And what a delight to spot a few friends in the ensemble! This will make for valuable listening for my Junior Trinity student group working on the piece at the moment.
You're right. His work on In C was heavily influenced by Indonesian gamelan music. And I think In C in particular is resemblaces Sundanese folk music. Read this hereandnow.legacy.wbur.org/2011/12/15/terry-riley-gamelan. Other avant-garde composer such as Harry Partch also brought some gamelan influences in his works
Your comment prompted a discovery for me; before I read it I had noticed that while some of the musicians appeared to have paper notes which didn't seem to be scores in the traditional sense and the other musicians had no notes. I got curious about that and found this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_C.
Is there a recording of this anywhere without the coughing? It's an incredible version, but there is so much coughing and throat clearing from the audience at some of the best parts!
+Thomas Broos, the musicians seem to end their playing at patterns from 47 to 49 - so, they did not play all 53, but I think it does not contradict the idea of the piece. But I'm not so sure.
depends on how wide "like this one" reaches. for me personally "like this" may include acts like Phurpa, but i don't know what your "common denominator" is here. but if you don't know him yet, i'd certainly recommend Steve Reich "Music for 18 Musicians".
Sure it's been 3 years or so.. but let's still reply! Somewhat in this vein (that is: minimal music) are 'Steve Reich & Slagwerk Den Haag Boiler Room x Dekmantel Festival Live Show' and 'Steve Reich’s Different Trains with London Contemporary Orchestra'
Bit tame and dreary... a bit nice and careful, seems no one is really ready to let go and make something of this piece, the sense of jamming that Riley expressly wished doesn't come naturally to this gang. Not as catastrophic as some versions (there was one featuring lots of African musicians that sounded like it had been mounted by a UN commission, zero soul) , but it doesn't really add anything to the piece. Interstingly the very first LP version still seems the best (although I did like the sheer bottle of Olsen very much).
@@gab_gallard Maybe "this pretentious piece" meaning his own comment, which could be trimmed to the one word "conceit"? Our comments are ourselves looking in the mirror, after all.
Boiler Room yall fucking rule for not only doing great dance music shit but also having stuff like this. A true god of minimalism.
Riley had his own avant-garde proto-rave thing he did, and very much laid groundwork for dub and ambient.
Yeah.
Well...that comment didn't age well
Buy yourself a dictionary.

I performed this when I was in undergrad music school. It changed my life.
what is it called, ifi may ask?
@@heymetwaly9235 It is called "In C" by Terry Riley
@@shutupsoprano oh, thank you :)
I love this kind of Music - it so very physical and transparent somehow expresses the very core of being danced 🙏🎵🎶🩵🧡🩷🩵🧡🩷🎵🎶
Such a joyful piece of music. All the musicians on stage a very fortunate and they will treasure this performance for the rest of their lives.

This piece will always remind me that better things are possible.
I'm imagining a Boiler Room MC doing the typical intro for this like they would a DJ set haha
it'd be great honestly and im sure terry riley himself would have a laugh
*Boys & Girls IN DA ROOM MAKE SOME NOOOOOOISE for TERRY RILAAAAAAY & STARGAZE* followed by slow mystical ambient music

Such a wonderful gift to discover on my birthday. 🙏🏾✨
Terry’s voice sounds so good.❤
Absolutely beautiful. Never heard In C like this🌅
Thanks to Boiler Room for the post. It is a minimalis masterpiece. Also "bravo!" to the director of the movie.
Never heard of Boiler Room, but if they collaborate with TERRY RILEY they've gotta be good!
Magical.
Beautiful. Salve for the troubled soul.
This is amazing, I love it. Thank you.

This is definitely my favourite Boiler Room. So much energy and spirituality...
I bought (and still have) the original LP half a century ago.. This is much freer and it's great to hear the grooves emerge.
What a stunning rendition! And what a delight to spot a few friends in the ensemble! This will make for valuable listening for my Junior Trinity student group working on the piece at the moment.
The best thing i've seen from Boiler Room in a while, kudos!
amazing! imaginary!
Awesome, awesome, awesome!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS MASTERPIECE !

Amazing, minimalism in the big moment :)

Could you please add the names of the players/instruments to the video description above?
As if boiler room has a set with terry riley. Only 1 minute in and I have a feeing it's going to be the best boiler room ever
Awesome
OH MY !
It doesn't make sense like this if you think about it as the original piece. But it isn't, and it sounds great.
This has a similar energy to Music for a found harmonium
This is a wonderful version of it.
I love that Terry Riley is reading the score - couldn't he play it in his sleep by now?

Thank you again Boiler Room. Keep up the good work. Why isn't the audio available for download in the BR site?

What's that guy doing with his iPad? is he even making music or is he just nodding along with it?
He must have some sound generation app on it.
Why they changed the name of the video? It was called Terry Riley & friends...

Do I remember incorrectly or is this just (about) half of the performance?

réalisé avant hri camel ( en intonation juste ) , in C nest pas en intonation juste..mais pourrait l'être si les interprètes le voulaient..dommage.
