- Planting up Belleza White Wand Flower (Gaura) in my Cottage Garden has been a pleasure. After learning that they are like butterflies dancing around in the garden I could not resist. I planted up 5 of these as a drift in the garden to give a bigger impact. I love to plant multiple of each plant. I really like sets of 3, 5 and 7’s.

Gaura is one of my favourite plants in my garden. I have white and pink versions. The pink ones are more dense and not so much dancing like the white ones. I found in 6B that they die off if I cut them back so a tip is to NOT cut them back in fall, let them die down and the foliage will protect the crown. Now I never loose one plant under blankets of snow and ice. I also do not cut back the spent foliage until I am sure there are green shoots coming up and all risk of frost is gone.
Good advice. I’m 8 so I don’t have to worry about that so much. Good for colder climates to have tips.
I find that staking the guara with 3 stakes and wrapping some thin twine around the stakes keep the guara from laying over after a rain and splitting at the base ..its a problem you encounter as the Guara gets bigger.

I live in Ohio and my Gaura does not return after winter so I don't plant it anymore. Argh.
This one is a perennial. I know you can buy as an annual also.
Plant them, don't cut them back, I'm in Ontario Canada and mine come back every year because the foliage protects the crown. You can also cover it with some burlap for extra protection and soft mulch.

I think that is a Asian Beetle not June bug. June bugs are way bigger, and love roses.
I call them Japanese beetles/ June because they come in June. Lol.
@@BACKYARDBLOOMSWITHKIM they are Japanese beetles, horrible little critters that will eat Gaura so watch them and pluck them off put them in a pail of soapy water to kill them. Do not crush them as they release pheromones that attract more like the traps, they just bring more and more beetles to your yard.
I love Guara. I bought both pink guaras and white guaras for our Stone Oak home. We had great success with them for 17 years.
Beautiful tour I planted White Gaura for the first time this year in containers actually I like it better how you have it planted in the ground among the flowers. Thanks for the tip!
