First thing, I just purchased a 750 ml bottle of Plantation Barbados 5 years for 34.50 Cdn dollars at the worlds largest alcohol distributor. I know you like to compare prices. Brutal is available here at 35 dollars a bottle, our accountant really likes this rum, he swears by it, but he’s got some questionable choices, the other Friday he bought a hot dog from the vending machine in our cafeteria, I guess hence was a little peckish, When he showed up to the Monday mornings managers meeting, he looked ashen and said that he lost 5 lbs the hard way 😢
Hi Stevo, I gotta tell ya that Matusalem 15, 18 (only in the USA) and 23 -are in my Top Ten sipping rums😉 By the way they are aged in French oak barrels☝👍🤝
I haven't tried this one specifically but I got a supposedly nice bottle of Brugal 1888 as a gift some years back and it was thin and watery with some strange earthy taste with some hints of the more typical caramel vanilla you often find in rums and some smoky flavors. The little taste there was in it was as you say unpleasant. I managed to finish it over time using it in rum and coke but it didn't lend much of anything to the coke other than the alcohol effect.
