Awesome. I love how you've dedicated a good portion of your channel to this rail-line and to many others that are either forgotten or little-known.

Reminds me somewhat of the Southern Railway - Saluda Grade Training Video that I saw elsewhere on TH-cam. It's good to have saved all these videos because Saluda grade will never be reopened as it wouldn't be economic to do so. Thank you for your efforts.

I was in 8th grade when this was recorded. I remember stuff like the 1998 Corvette being a pace car (purple, I think) and people being worried about the millenium bug. It doesn't feel like it was THAT long ago. The difference in video quality tells me that yes, it was that long ago.
    Thanks for sharing!

Where I railfan in Rural Retreat VA in Southwestern Virginia, 1998 was the year they built the siding (Control Point Duncan and Crockett) that is 10K feet long which would be a mile long, but the trains would often use that siding and Glade Spring which is the longest siding on that line compared to Radford and along with its rail yard!

I’ve been on that line many many times. Beautiful country over there.

@@jonburrows2684 Yes I truly agree, especially where my grandpa lives between that, the mountains make it a beautiful scene as well as farmlands 😌

Yup honestly in the long run i feel like the death of all these railroads in the country will kill so many small towns that formed along them. Its not like hishways and interstates go though downtown but the railroads did having a station in your town would bring way more business than a highway exit 5 miles outside of town

10/7/1998 I was promoted to RFE to the Asheville District. Saluda was one half of my duties.

Who is here after NS announced they’d Abandon Saluda Grade? Personally it sucks but I can’t blame them for doing one last thing to it.

I've hiked from Saluda to Tryon. Down the grade and all and getting to see it uncovered is beautiful such a masterpiece that stayed and made it's mark. I love Line W or Ashville to Spartanburg

Looks like a nice video, but I would be even nicer if they had sound! Otherwise, it’s good.

Didn't like the fact that the video didn't have any sound thus the reason for the thumbs down

Well, it wasn’t recorded with sound, so take that up with NS from 25 years ago.

Good thing they did abandon that line that is one dangerous piece of railroad i hate to say it but that line should have never been built
