    I will be the first to admit that the current sculpts sold as minis by GW are arguably the best they've ever done, but there is something about the old 80s/90s stuff that has been lost over time, and that is character. They just ooze so much character that the modern stuff is almost sterile in comparison. Maybe im just too old and nostalgic

    • @scoticvsgossage9378

      Nah, I feel the same way about the 90s and 80s models

    • @CocoHutzpah
      @CocoHutzpah 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      I agree, but a lot of the 80s/90s Fantasy minis are new to me. I think it is more than just nostalgia, as I have none.

    • @username12120
      @username12120 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

      The new sculpts are just TOO perfect. Whereas the traditional sculpts of the 80s, 90s, and early 00s still have that imperfect hand sculpted charm to them. The technical proficiency and technology of today is phenomenal, but it can produce some sterile looking models.

    • @foldionepapyrus3441
      @foldionepapyrus3441 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      No I agree, not only are the new sculpts often excessively detailed with fiddly bits of very limited value to the model and then everything ends up near perfect if not entirely perfect in symmetry and repeating shape across models - which just makes them less 'real'. Then there is the subject matter - some time in the 2000's maybe into 2010's all the whimsy and fun details go away in the quest for every more dull, repetitive legions. No halfling hotpot etc.

    • @scoticvsgossage9378

      @@foldionepapyrus3441 The keys on the new Bretonnian duke come to mind. Nearly bent mine irreparably when I was putting together the damn Pegasus.
      I prefer 90s-80s sculpts because they have a few details here and there, but are a dream to paint once you get going.

      They're perfect for it. Especially given that Colonel Schaeffer worked with the Inquisition, so they could easily have been made Imperial Agents available to work with any Imperial force (and, y'know, sell more minis). Shame that's probably not on the cards though.

    My top 5:
    - Original 'Necron Raiders', especially the Immortals.
    - Last Chancers
    - Original Tanith metal guardsmen
    - The original "unarmoured" Custodes
    - Gotrek and Felix (probably their 2nd versions)

    I just love the old 80s and 90s models, maybe because that's when I started. The new ones while more detailed, are more like small painted statues meant for display than play. I think the new Aelves sculpts suffer the most from this, so many small fragile parts that I can barely move them on a shelf without them breaking.

    Those are all nice choices. GW has released some very charming models in their days. My top 10 is probably all made up of the late 80's Chaos champions. I pick some up here and there every now and then and they're still some of the most delightful things that the company has ever made.
    Not that I would complain about some 80's Greater Daemons, though. I have one original Lord of Change and would happily take more. The pterodactyl head is fun but the twin head and the skeletal heads have their points too.

    I wish they had re-released the old forgeworld giant rather than the newer one that has been around for ages. I'd also love the old forgeworld fire dragon or even the chicken dragon to come back.

    I treated myself to the blue and red back catalogues recently off ebay, both in perfect condition for £30. I noticed there's a green one too but not sure what's in it? Any ideas?! I'm colleting vintage skaven (partly for Advaned Heroquest) and probably going to bankrupt myself by recollecting all the minis I has in early 1990s. I convinced my mum to front a a months plus pocket money for the War Waggon as soon as it came out in W.D. I remember just how fustrating that thing was to attempt to put together - and I failed miserably! The Snotling Pump Waggon was more sucesfull and still want to re-purachace one today when $ allows. Lovely video as always!!

    I would love for the opportunity to get Nick Bibby's Spined Dragon, but I think it's very unlikely that'll ever be rereleased. 😢
