Back in the days, Avenida was the place to go in Downtown Manila Philippines. Although it has fallen on hard times, the area is still bustling with shops and small places to eat. Is this area safe for visitors from Hawaii?
I was not born and raised in Manila but the city has its own old, mystic charm. I remembered scouring the streets of Ongpin with my parents looking for the best, freshly cooked hopia. Before Christmas, we would buy ham from Excelente in Echague. My mother and I went to Ma mon luk for noodle dish and siopao after shopping in Divisoria. The people are not pretentious, they hustle non-stop. I miss this part of the city, I would say it’s a beautiful chaos.
Everything in Quiapo and Avenida still looks the same after 11 years away from manila where i used to live and grew up now that i'm living here in Laguna at present.
I'm living in BGC now very much in contrast with old manila, but i was born , grew up study in this area. Sometimes i go to this place to buy and eat those cheap delicious food that i used to eat during my younger years. I spent my whole day walking around, buy things that i need and take it home.
A different transformation. BGC is a high end place while Manila now like Escolta St., is almost deserted. I used to eat also along Ongpin area. It is hard to walk singlehandedly. There is that feeling of apprehension cause pickpocketers roam around the area, you are always at the lookout.
We need police visibilty in the area.
This is the Manila that i know, before Makati was developed this is downtown, the first escalator that i stepped-on was at the Good Earth Emporium on the corner of Carriedo and Avenida(Rizal Ave) this was in the late 60's, life was easier then, cheap prices and less crowd

Living abroad like me, I really missed where I came from especially Manila areas, and this is it. I watched some KT ramdomely and found very entertaining and interesting , I could see people faces young and old some are striving and some are enjoying their daily lives eating good food but seeing people who are sitting down the corner and look at them sad, makes my heart low and down , I told myself, that's life...I liked the video because it is very smooth and steady, it's the best of them all I guessed.
Im surprise that it is not so noisy at all and everyone is so comfy walking hesitation … thanks for showing this side of old Manila

Ganyan na pala ang Quiapo ngayon at mula sa simbahan papuntang Sta Cruz. Nang estudyante ako ng Feati University madalas kung ikutin mula Lerma to Recto Sta Cruz to Quiapo then punta ng school dahil 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm ang school time ko. nakaka-mis din pala makita ang mga lugar na madalas mong puntahan noon lalo na ng mapanood ko ang videong ito. Minsan dinampot ako ng pulis dyan sa Sta Cruz sa kakatingin sa mga eskaparate ng mall habang naglalakad puntang school pinakawalan din ako nang malaman na estudyante ako. Dami nilang tanong. Taon ito ng 1976 - 1982 ginawa ko kapag walang pasok sa construction pumapasok ako ng mas maaga sa school para umikot ng Quiapo at Sta Cruz dahil working student ako noon.

Maybe one day and night in Manila. Then off to some of the more quiet, peaceful and beautiful places in the Phillipines.
I live in Jakarta, and seeing this video I can resume that Manila condition is the same as Jakarta. The difference only the transportation system, Jakarta I believe is more integrated and convinient. But the cleanliness, the society, the economy level, etc are the same. I think Kuala Lumpur is the best city in the south east asia region.

The givernment’s effort to clean the sidewalks and the streets of vendors and obstructions can only be good only on paper...that makes walking vlogs more believable and realistic....everything looks normal without the law enforcers. Tnank you sa pasyal Mr. Krypto.

Im surprised that you are surprised. Its is not a political thing in Asia, only in America. You do realize that the virus is still out there and many people do not wish to transmit to to their elderly family members?
People where mask there before covid because of the pollution especially in Manila. When I visited the first thing I smelled in the air at the airport was diesel gas and street bbq and asphalt. The province is where you wanna be at, the air fresh just like Baguio.

Manila have clean streets and sidewalk... compared to USA and European cities...
Doesn't look so bad. Extremely populated but sprawling markets like these have their charm as well. Not a place I personally would like to live in though.

Manila can be a very Hard place for anyone to live without money! And if your honest to yourself and have any 'eyes to see'- Look and you'll see lots and Lots of NEED! Learning to 'open your hands to the Poor' is a Big step and you wlll grow from it! Here in Manila and thousands of cities like it world-wide A Good Man or Woman Can make a difference!

Man, I remember vacationing in Baguio when it rained. I can actually smell this video
WOW, It sure has changes since i was there last in 1962, Stationed on the aircraft carrier we were in manila and on liberty i meat a man that worked in the embassy and he took me and showed me where they bombed the city and a lot of the history. My girl friend at that time was in Subic bay and when we went to Japan and i bought her a gift and when I gave it to her she had a real fit and she told me of the war with Japan and they killed her mom, dad, Brother and sister and she was the only one left. She was there but hid but had to watch what they did to her family. It was heart breaker when i had to leave, we were together over a year than had to go to Viet Nam for that war was just starting. Yes i loved the Philippines and the girl i had to leave behind. At 83 they are still in my mind and heart. Thanks and stay safe.
