The magnetic unit opens the iac under very high vacuum when the engine is on the overrun. It allows air to enter the inlet manifold when the throttle butterfly is closed.
This is an amazing video, I'm running my 4age 20v with a link ecu and I have been having a hard time keep it at a consistent idle, thank you for your video i now understand how this works.
If you have a modern link ecu like a G4 onwards you can connect a pwm Nissan idle valve and send it a target idle speed. The Nissan RB style of valve is nice as it has a base idle screw on the valve. I set mine to 850 idle and the link lifts the cold running up to 1250.
@@planesofpaper might be a bit hard to get in Canada, i have a G4X pnp for a st205, same plug as a 20v. is there no way to get the 20v air idle to work right with the link? playing around with the link last summer I wasn't getting surging, but it was hard to dial in a consistent idle, but maybe I can get it dialed in now that i know how it works.

Hi. Glad it helped. I have itbs on my beams also. The way I did it was I used a alloy small combined manifold with hoses to each manifold port. I then used a Nissan pwm driven valve as it had a screw adjustment built in. I then set base idle at 880 and the drove the pwm with my Link Ecu idle table.
if i dont want to take off the iac, how to clean it? just open the two screw?
