It was me on my Yamaha Vmax1200 at 1:16 waving at you, YS. Apologies for the friend who did not notice you coming behind as it was a newly acquired bike (BMW R9T) for him, with a useless rear mirror! For those who said we were racing or blocking - we race on the track, never on the roads.
Really reminds me of the old Lotus Seven roadster. Lightweight with with a 1.6 engine. But they really had the greatest power to weight ratio and drove like a go cart. A friend of mine in the UK bought one of this type of kit cars, a Caterham 7, and assembled it as a hobby. Took some months, but once done, he drove it like James Hunt on the roads :)
Hi YS, I am 68, just about to retire and live in Perth Australia. I have, like many, been following your driving exploits on TH-cam. I have secretly been eyeing a MX5 for a while, going as far back as the MX5 NB, but only from a distance. I made a big decision to get this current MX5 ND as my “retirement toy” OR in your words a “weekend car”. I am taking delivery of if it in a couple of weeks. Mine will be a daily drive due to its driving ease. Watching you drive it to its potential put a smile on my face and only confirmed that I have made the right choice. For that I thank you. Happy driving YS.
@@soonkityaw5409 not yet as there was a change of plan by my Mazda dealer. They have decided to order a new 2024-built car from Mazda Japan instead, due sometime in July. This is a plus as it will have all the updated tweaks. I have an update that my car has been built awaiting a VIN. It is because that I live Perth, the shipping/freighting is a bit of hit and miss, as we are the last/furthest from Japan. Keeping my fingers crossed though. Thanks for asking.
As a biker myself, i hate it when they hog the lanes, oblivious to faster vehicles behind them or just their ego? Safer for everybody just to give way. Even uncle YS will give way. We need courtesy training for our road users.
just a suggestion from a fan..if no cars following you at the back I think there no need for a rear view angle, I think just add on a foot cam with at the bottom right it would be just nice.
This is a 360 cam view. We did not have the chance to put on a foot cam because this drive was a last minute thing. We will try to put a foot cam if we get thec chance next time.
Rear view was essential. It tells the complete story how your adversaries were defeated and left in the dust on the twisties! From there I could see the power advantage the Miata had as it left the bikes in the dust 👍
The car drives great, especially at corners. Don't see much of body roll. No turbo means cheaper maintenance, but when overtaking, it's super quick. I like it. 👍
Another thing to like about Mazda cars in Malaysia is they usually have the heater part for the AC system. Not sure if they still have them, but my 2015 Mazda 2 does. Great for cold morning drives in Fraser.
Sadly only works in colder areas such as Cameron and Genting Higlands as well as Fraser Hill (the seat heating system). Most of the time just blast the air con
Nope. This is one of the rare perfectly balanced car. Adding a bigger engine will make it front heavy n disrupt the handling. Adding a turbo will also disrupt the balance and actually make it slower in the corners. If you want a fast straight-line car, there are better alternative.
For a lot of people it is a daily. For older folks, it is a fun car but usually not the only car. As for the handling, you can see from the video just how good it is.
I dont have one buy I tried my friend's 2.0 RF ND1 and 1.5 RS ND2 (slightly modified) and its quite a huge difference.... closer ratio and lightweight flywheel on the 1.5RS, 2.0 seems to ran out of juice at high rpm but the 1.5 keeps going till the red line @@YSKhongDriving
Every single time i watch your videos uncle YS, i'm constantly reminded of just how bad Malaysian drivers are when it comes to lane discipline. Also, that rider at 3:45 was terrible to watch, even more so as a rider myself. the guy has no situational awareness at all, one of the most important things you need to stay alive on the road.
Very true. As a driver myself, I am only tryimg to stay clean and keep myself safe. Being defensive in driving style is the only way to be safe. Thanks Gary, for your comment - hopefully people will read this post and learn - that way we are helping to educate more people to be safety conscious. Guys, you can be fast, yet safe.
What a treat it must be to drive a road like this without worrying about on-coming traffic in corners.
Yes this is one of the best roads in the world.

No worries. We share the road, and be safe at all times

Mr.Khong getting more and more younger with sport cars.😮
Masterly. Especially the way you defeated the two bikers and showed who’s boss.
I just wanted too get out of ther hair safely. It is never fun to drive in a crowded road, so I was loking for a clear road.
public roads are not for showing who is boss or who is winning, ppl like you become stats easily
I love uncle Khong's driving skills. Still got the move, fast through corners of Genting and yet he made it seemed so smooth.
The biker ate his dust!
FINALLY! I was waiting for a long time for a new Miata to go up

Glad you made that choice. You won't regret it.
Have you gotten the car? How was it?

@@YSKhongDriving that's the best mindset to keep everybody safe; also constantly paranoid helps.
quite a nimble car…. smooth engine …. seeing uncle smile is priceless !! yea power to weight ratio …… who needs turbo…
Good drive!
Miata= miata is always the answer 😄
I just got one exactly like your and I love it!
The Miata with manual is fabulous!!!

The reason he clapped his hands are for editing purposes. 0:56 . He wants his video to align with his audio when he edits. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Tq for this Miata genting ride.❤
Most welcome
Nice driving
Finally! Would you say that it has enough power, or will it benefit from having more?
Nope. This is one of the rare perfectly balanced car. Adding a bigger engine will make it front heavy n disrupt the handling. Adding a turbo will also disrupt the balance and actually make it slower in the corners. If you want a fast straight-line car, there are better alternative.
I find it almost perfect as it is.
@@YSKhongDriving nice to hear that
@@YSKhongDrivingHi uncle, 180 hp or 160 hp ?
Nothing beats a manual with a open top oh uncle
Absolutely!
Hi YS, which one will take you up the hill quicker? The MX5 or the Mazda 6 Touring? 😇
Both are quick!
i wish there is another camera, showing uncle's foot work while driving a stick😄
Nice video, uncle please do a Nissan GTR Genting climb. I want to see what that car is capable of
No offers so far.
Love mx5 , maybe this not the first time you driving this ND , the smile index not as high as your last mx5 video 😆
Last mx5 video was in Australia
Uncle can you make another video with the car? I'm going to buy it in 1 month!
If you buy through our channel, can!
5:02 Attack mode switched ON
Very well driven. Visibility not so good towards the end but enjoyed the ride nevertheless.
Love manual cars. Thank you YS.
Glad you enjoyed it
Perfect weekend car!
It sure is!
Amazing!!!
It looks like MX-5 has returned to its roots - its a fun but not very practical car. Unker YS, how would you describe its handling characteristics?

When U said "NICE" I'm 🫡
Hahaha, Nice when the car takes the corner well.
Haha, fun car. You enjoy this or GR86 more on this drive?
Both!
The new camera angle sucks Uncle YS. We want the old camera angle in the car, back.
This is a 360cam. Noted on yr comme t
Uncle you should try the 1.5 RS version....its alot more fun than the 2.0!
I would like to - do you have one?
